The punishment for sharing a space with ewedu and amala is that gbegiri stench will always intrude into your nostrils. If you know, you know.

Naija2023:
Living in Bondage was produced around 1992/1993. It was not the first Nigeria commercial home video movie sold in VHS Cassette. But, It was the most successful and most popular in d early 90s.

Before Living in Bondage , there were home video by Mount Zion faith ministries who started home video in 1990 which is 2/3 years before living in Bondage. Although mount Zion faith ministries started in 1986 it was only doing stage play. It started home video in 1990.

We need to recognise the impact of technology and access to home video player by a reasonable population in the decision for film makers to move from stage play and TV drama to home video. It was in the early 90s a reasonable population of Nigerians started having home video players.

Even before then , the likes of Jagua ( my belle my head oh) were already selling their NTA series on VHS home video.

Also we should not also forget the likes of Zebrodaya (new Masquerade) who were already selling their series on Radio Cassette, turntable players etc.

In summary, it is wrong to even say Nollywood started in the 90s. What we have is a rapid growth of Nigeria movies in the 90s dominated by Igbos in the 90s and the term Nollywood was coined by copying Hollywood to represent Nigeria movie industry.

Nobody knows about it or even watched it while Living in Bondage was a global hit,a phenomenon.

Living in bandage is the first, and still one of the best. It birthed nollywood. Maybe films were shown on TV before, but living in bondage made us aware of VHS, and a new industry was born.

I think we have rested this topic that it was truly Yorubas that started Nollywood but it was the Igbos that galvanised it with vhs video.
Please,rest.

VHS video didn't start with living in Bondage.
But living in Bondage was the first to get a big hit nationwide on VHS video
