Hello sir, I just stumbled on a post where you talked extensively on your experience using the Sienna. I'll like to seek your honest and humble opinion.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I have decided to sell my Xterra to buy a Sienna. The primary reason for the car is to carry 50kg gas cylinders. I do a lot of gas supplies and need something that can carry the load. On two occasions, I've seen dealers use Siennas and I was impressed. The last 1 I saw loaded 11 50kg cylinders. Mas my Xterra can do is 7.

That said, what model would you recommend? Would you recommend a Nigerian used?

You will need to modify the rear suspension setup if you wish to use the sienna to carry such heavy goods.

The model your money can buy but since nah knock about with reckless abandonment you wan use am do, I will advice 1998 to 2003 model year. A Nigerian used is okay if all checks out.

But for me i will advice you look for a 4wd manual transmission toyota previa first generation, it is sturdier than sienna and easier to use. I think it started from 95 to 2004 or so

Why a previa please? Does it have similar room space? And yes, it's mainly knock about work.

I handle my supplies once a week on other days, the car will be mostly idle since I have a smaller car.

This may change next year if I give the smaller car to madam.

It is easier to modify, has a 4WD variant, has manual transmission as manual transmission is better for the work you want to do and manual will last better than the auto also manual is mostly maintenance free. yes it has similar room in fact the previa is mainly used for those kind of work

Nice, thanks.
Just to add to what was said, it comes with RWD (great for hauling) unlike the Sienna's FWD, and it's a mid-engine sleeper (if you get the supercharged variant).
It's an overall sturdier family hauler.
The major issue you might face here is sourcing for good parts cos of its age.

Hello house.

Please what are the pros and cons of buying a Nigerian used Hyundai Tuscon 2009 0r 2010 (2.0L or 2.4L engine)model? Does it have any known issue with Engine or Transmission? I have never used a Korea car

These cars are good when they are very good grades. Are you buying naija used?
The engine and gear are very expensive so you have to get one that is very good to avoid pains

Good morning sir. Following your recommendation, I've decided to settle for the Sienna but the prices of car is not smiling a bit.

I spent the whole of yesterday searching for a car. Someone is offering to sell an 01 xle for 3.3 million. He claimed he used it for just 3 months. We drove this and it was sharp.

My mechanic insisted I go for an 05 model but the one I saw had a terrible paint job for 3 million. According to him the newer model consumes lesser fuel and has a more premium feel.

I saw 4 other Siennas. A 2,000 model with very sound engine but already repainted and dirty interior for 2 million.

Another with first body (extremely clean interior and exterior) 1999 model going for 2.35 million. I like this one but there's a issue with the steering pump, shaft, back shocks, AC, and velocity side of the tacometer. We went under and it's absolutely rust free.

What are your thoughts, please?

What do you all think about Nigerian used Kia Rio 07-10, Ford focus 08...
Budget is around 1.5m just for work and back (about 45km daily)
Would be a learner car

Abi he should just go for older Corolla 01/02 or Civic 2004/05 ( though they're all dated)

With how expensive cars are now, it's nearly impossible for somebody to buy a car of his choice these days. I wanted to get a car around June, something came up and I had to use part of the money. Now all the cars I had on my list are now out of reach coz of the price... I was in Lagos this weekend and I was surprised to see lots of Mazda Cx-9 on Lagos roads, I checked and it's a much cheaper alternative to Highlander and Pilot. So I started thinking about going for it, particularly the 2014 CX-9. But as usual, before I do anything, I'll have to come and check for opinions from nairaland. From my research, I find that the most complained issue is the water pump which is inside the engine. Since that is the issue, so I was thinking maybe I can just replace the water pump immediately I buy it to give me some insurance. Is there no way of monitoring the water pump in order to avoid the problem? Apart from the water pump, is there any other problem with the car? Please I need your opinions. Thanks.

I'm seriously considering changing my es350 to a 2014 bwm 335i but the roads are not looking good. I am considering getting 2014 rx 350 but the handling of es350 is not encouraging me to get another lexus. Any recommendations on suv that has the reliability of that of rx350 and the handling of a bmw?

The Kia Rio is good but I always prefer the imported unit with analogue temp guage, those with digital temp guage are a disaster waiting to happen because when the car is overheating the damage will already be done b4 the digital temp guage will notify you

Mazda CX9 is just a ford edge in another clamshell. Well parts and technician are what makes people avoid them. If you can get an upgraded technician. To help with fix, you can always sort parts out.

The RX will handle well I believe it is fitted with electronic power steering. But if you are still adamant
1. Benz ML,GLE
2. ACURA MDX
3. Hyundai palisade
4. Kia Sorento

Truth is I really like the 2017/18 Honda CR-V. It has everything I want. Good looks, nice interior, great gas mileage for a compact SUV. But I am still unsure about the 1.5l turbo engine and the oil dilution problem. Although I have read that the issue was mostly observed in colder climate regions. I'm thinking using the engine in Nigeria won't be much of a problem because of our weather. I'm ready to get the car now and that is the only compact SUV that is within my budget that ticks almost every box in my shopping list. More advice please.
nurey:

Honda CRV is even better than rav4 sef. Forget about CVT wahala honda perfected the tech since 2006 in honda city nah Nissan CVT dey give wahala. As for the 1.5Turbo engine if it was bad, the honda Accord won't be selling like hot Akara. In essence buy the CRV if you are comfortable with it.

Other notable mentions kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson

There is no other advice than to do a VIN check first on the unit for sale then go along with a qualified technician for inspection of the unit, pay and enjoy.

Honda Accord 2011
Toyota Camry 2013
Toyota Avalon 2010

Good day everyone, I have been researching the least problematic car models for each series on engine patrol and I have been able to isolate my options to these three, but I want to ask:

1) Is this statistical approach useful or should I do a consultation with a qualified mech?

2) Are there any other models or brands I am overlooking? My major concerns are a good looking car, modern dashboard, as few predictable problems as possible, as I will be maintaining impeccably and routinely so help me God, and affordability of maintaining and parts.
And oh yes, FUEL ECONOMY!!!

I was considering the Acura MDX, the Toyota Rav 4 or the Mazda CX 9, as I would have liked an SUV for the Nigerian road, but seems they fall short of my concerns more than the sedans.

My budget is max 5.5m (Nigerian used) for the camry. Would appreciate anybody replying to also drop his choice out of every option I gave 🙏🏽❤️

2013 cars would always be preferred over 2011's.
Why don't you also consider Honda 2013 Nigeria used ?

Good evening great minds.

I'm looking to buy my first car. I practically know nothing about cars. Don't even know how to drive.

I'll be getting a Nigerian used. Budget is 3 to 3.5M

I've been seeing lots of 2008 Camry and Lexus Es 300 (2002 - 2004), and 2010 Honda withing that price range on jiji.

I work from home hence it's a car I'll barely use. Just getting it with the intention of having a ride before marrying a wife.

Should I get any of those two? Is there a better brand out there withing that price range?

What are the things I should look out for when going to get the car?

What kind of mechanic should I go with?

Pardon the plenty questions. I'm a total novice when it comes to cars. Don't even know what mileage means.
