oilyngbati:Being non native doesn't mean that they can't survive. In fact, they may end up becoming invasive specie. These ones are not the first to be released into the wild. Na tribalism u carry on the head like this? |

NFBI: Well, there is name for Tiger in Western part of Nigeria, Yorùbá to be precise call it Ẹkùn while Leopard is called Amọtẹkun. There is even a proverb that says "yiyọ ẹkun t'ojo kọ" which roughly translates to slow walk of tiger is not a sign of weakness. So, there might be a contact at some point 1 Like |

Crucialgem:No Sir. Tiger is even more dangerous than lion. I remember head of Oau Zoo that was killed by lion of recent told me. The reason no Nigeria Universities Zoo keep it. If you go to oau zoo they did not cover the head reason is that Lion can not climb very far up but if is Tiger they must cover everything. |

You cannot release tigers into the wild in Africa because they are not native to the continent, they were released into more or less a zoo with more freedom for the animals to roam |

judedwriter: Lions are the King of the Jungle not because of their physicality or strength but because of their domineering traits, No animal can engage a pride of Lions because Lions are not easily subdued in the face of adversity. Tigers hunt their preys for survival while lions hunt their preys for survival, pride and control. Tigers are more reclusive wild cats and are commonly not interested in controlling the Jungle, but in a forest full of Lions, the Lion is King. There's a reason historically Great Figures like King David, Jesus Christ and Emperor Haile Selassie have been ascribed the title of The Lion of the Tribe of Judah; The Lion is a symbol of Royalty & Power. 🦁 2 Likes |

judedwriter: There are other animals physically stronger than Lions, but Lions have one unique trait to them; dominion over their territory. They are totally territorial in nature and that is why they retain the kingship over all Land animals. Tigers may be stronger than Lions but in the battle for territorial dominance, Lions usually prevail. More reason why Tigers do not cohabit with Lions in the African Jungle but migrate to other places where they can fend for food and keep their peace while at it. 1 Like |

Arda1000:Tigers will do well. Leopards are solitary big cats too, and even with all the "threats" they're doing fine despite the fact that tigers are far far more powerful than leopards. It depends on the vegetation of the areas involved. They can manage to survive in the rainforests, but not in the savannah or desert. Bengal tigers will do better than Siberian tigers too. |
Re: Viral Tigers Living Next To SA Preschool Released Into The Wild (PICS) by YourKarma: 11:48am On Feb 24 |
Lagosianswag:The unique trait among lions is that they're the only social big cats. They do much better in prides. Other cats, like cheetahs form coalitions, but not on the level of lions Every cat specie is territorial. Heck, even domestic cats are territorial, so this "dominion over territory" isn't unique to lions. There are places where lions and tigers cohabit together in Asia. Those lions are called Asiatic lions. |

judedwriter:In a one-on-one fight, a full-grown Siberian tiger will best a full-grown African lion. Easily. Most animals tend to avoid confrontation because even a single scratch can lead to their death by infection. And they know this. Lions will fare better if they have a fight with a tiger in the wild because the price of the lion will still be able to provide food for the lion unlike the tiger who are always solitary, except during mating season when a male and female might pair up |
Re: Viral Tigers Living Next To SA Preschool Released Into The Wild (PICS) by YourKarma: 11:55am On Feb 24 |
Johnboom:This isn't the main reason Nigerian zoos don't keep tigers. They don't because it's difficult to acquire one, and take care of it. Also, a tiger will need more care than a lion will because our continent is more habitable to a lion than a tiger 1 Like |

YourKarma: Lions maintain a pride of several lionesses and cubs, but tigers live solitary lives. Even when young male lions reach adolescence, they are often kicked out to start a pride of their own. Two or three young sibling male lions then team up to take over another pride by pursuing the adult male lion. killing all the cubs and mating with the lionesses to start a generation. The cycle is repeated again and again and is a reflection of the human hierarchy kingdom. |

YourKarma:There’s a huge difference between the African jungle and Indian jungle, just as the Amazon forest/jungle is different from the aforementioned. Every forest in different continents are exclusive for a reason and animals there have adapted for thousands of years, that once you take them out of that their natural habitat, they can’t survive in the wild of a different continent, except you domesticate them. Tigers have thick furs, which makes them adapt and survive in Asia because they thrive in temperate (warm) and cold (wintery) climates. If you strictly introduce them into the sub Saharan region which is very hot, their thick furs will make the die of heat eventually and their metabolism will be slowed down due to high temperatures in sub Saharan Africa. The Indian sub-continent is a temperate region (mixture of warm and cold climates) especially the Himalayan region of India which experiences winter. Tigers, due to their thick furs, conserve heat and insulates against winter cold, as opposed to Lions, with little or no furs, so are more adapted for the African weather than Tigers. Tigers are more like grizzly bears, which need a habitat that is temperate (warm) and wintery (Cold). Half of the year, they are thriving in the summer, the other half, they hibernate in winter…..study the Siberian tigers too, just like the Bengal tigers. Tigers can only be kept as pets in Africa and survive, but in the wild African Savannah, No way! |
