Why are you doing this?

The same due diligence that goes into ascertaining that a used tire is good is the same you will use on a new tire.

I bought four brand new Firestones in Nigeria last month. Good tires are there, they are not cheap but life is not cheap either.

We can't be doing the same things and expect different results.
they are only saying they will choose a use Tyre over a brand new china Tyre

I get what you saying, but if you are an average driver in Nigeria using your car daily on a 9-5 job mon to fri that Tyre wont last max 2 years, u wanna bet?.I still think buying used road legal tyres makes more economic sense if the labor of fitting them is cheap.
I was in Nigeria full time 2008 to 2010.I came with 5 brand new tyres from the Uk, summer tyres.the last one parked up just 11 months reason something on the rd damaged it.this was a tyre with full thread on.
I will never buy a used tyre beyond rd legal, I insist however as far as it has sufficient threading which I think will pass inspection if indeed it was on test in the UK, Im good. But thats just me, I know what to look for if not you will be buying tyres yearly and we both know thier cost,.
wraping your wheels when you are full time driver on 9ja roads is way different from wrapping your wheels when you are a part time driver.Ermmm when are we retiring again grin grin grin grin grin

1) I don't use summer tires, all season tires are the ideal tires for Nigeria.

2) You don't get what I'm saying because you are still encouraging used tires. They are simply not safe and the only reason they are in circulation is the poor state of economy. I wager that a major part fo accidents on the road are caused by tire conditions.

3) When I was single I bought used tires in the USA but once I started a family I started buying new tires.

If you were advocating that used tires are okay when due diligence is followed then I can sit back BUT you are saying that they are better than new tires shocked

This thing that you and oga Gazzuzz are doing ehn grin

I was in Nigeria from Nov to Feb and the whole of May, not full time but long enough.

I hold both Gazzuzz and Erico2K2 in high regards.

I wish that they wouldn't be recommending used tires just as they should be recommending new dangerous tires from any country.

Motorists can find good new tires and should be guided to do so.

nahhhhh nahhhh
U got it all wrong, how can a used thing be better than a new thing fahhhhh
Now I see what you mean,No especially when wear and tear is involved.
The major cause of accidents in Nigeria are bad road/users.Some road are meant for bulldozers to drive on in 9ja
I tyre that has 3/4 of its thread remaining is a good tyre,I will take that any day than a Chinese brand new if you get what I mean.
Look at that apapa rd for instance or teh or come to benin the east west road is a bit better but come to teh bayelsa bit.sharp stones will mess you up.I got 4 original used Jeep tyres with deep threading, thats waht I have had on my jeep liberty for 3 years now.
PS if the Dunlop you bought in Nigeria is half the cost of Dunlop in the USA then you bought fake.

I can never buy fake tires, I'm an Autoist. Genuineness of a product has nothing to do with price.

My tires are Firestones.

I guess we'll agree to disagree, buyers will make their choice.

You can but you won't sell to me because I'm deliberate on what products I buy.

Again, "I", don't buy based on price but on quality from established brands.

My driveshaft will come a Toyota dealer and backed by their warranty.

The tires I purchased and where I purchased were a result of diligent research.

Your best bet is to go a reputable tire dealer or manufacturers rep. In Ibadan my search led me to a shop across from Shoprite in JAllen.

In the USA I use TireTack.Com exclusively.

Tires are the final contact that your automotive investment has with the tarmac and will decide your vehicles level of comfort and performance.

I salute you for taking the time to do a proper research and not just buying the best looking set of unknown used tires from Chucks.

So there was this day I was headed to Lagos from Ilorin, Kwara State. I remembered there was this express road - Ilorin-Ogbomosho expressway. So me and my partner-in-crime, my twin brother decided to do something crazy about 1 year ago. My car which is a 2007 Mercedes Benz C280 4MATIC was just 9 months with me and delivers impressive performance, so we decided to give her the push of her life and see how she would fair.

We clocked to between 180-190km/h the first time, then we changed and I took the wheels. Lo and behold, this car surprised me with an impressive 209km/h and could have gone more if I had pushed further but then the sweet part of the road was finishing. The interesting thing was that this car was so damn stable and we could only feel little vibrations at over 200km/h.

We learnt quite a few things about car handling at the high speed. It was a costly fun though but it was fun. The car would normally consume about 15 litres of fuel from Lagos to Ibadan which is about 140-150km distance with A/c on and about 100km/h average speed. But on this day, we burnt that same amount of fuel just covering about 50km distance.

At the end of the whole frenzy, after another 1hr drive past oyo, we discovered the car started vibrating at speeds above 80km/h and kept flashing the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) caution. In summary, we got to the car checked the next day in Lagos and discovered the only tokunbo tyre I had on had failed and twisted, that was the reason for the vibration.

Please stay off tokunbo tyres at all cost!!!

A man's belief system is what determines what he does, how he reacts or what he expects. To use excuse of bad economy to deny oneself self-love, comes from limited beliefs one holds, even if he doesn't know about it. Same limited belief systems in most men is why we now have more SIMPs, Manginas and White Nights, ever in world history.

How much does these genuine tyre brands really cost, if someone really love himself that much? Most modern men now find it wrong to spend some money on themselves. But they would rather spend everything they got on their women or children because "that's the right thing to do". However, you don't think you deserve to be in good shape and alive to keep providing for them, if that's what you really want or your desire? What's wrong in spending some or part of that your money on tyres that guarantee your own safety, on a very large extent? Again, this has nothing to do with economy. It's all about beliefs. Because you would be surprised that you could blow that same amount of money that would have gotten you the brand new genuine tyre brands on things you really don't even need, the next week or weeks to come. That's why poor people spend more money than rich people, buying things they don't need.

Not all Chinese tyres are bad. I replaced 4 tyres on one of my lions with a Chinese brand, because I couldn't find the factory size in Michelin (My tyre brand) or any other quality brand (195/60 R15). And since tokunbo tyres was not an option to me, including going out of the car tyre specifications/size, I decided to go for the best new brand I could find the size (path of least resistance), recommended to me by my Michelin tyre dealer. It's over a year now, I think, and I have been driving the lion very hard, doing crazy fun speed with it and they are still in good shapes.

I know every man won't be as speed freak or fun driving maniac like me. So buying a tyre for speed or fun may not interest you. But there are things I don't consider buying as used parts when it comes to cars. Tyre is one of them. For me, I would rather have a performance car I can afford to drive 2 days in a week and be happy the whole week, than have a car I can afford to drive the 7 days of the week but got depressed because of how boring the car is. Nothing is more important than my happiness to me and if it's mean spending a little more on my cars i love to keep the happiness, then it's done.

I still drove on the same road about a month ago and it's still superb. This time though I resisted exceeding 150km/h cos I have a beautiful daughter now!!! grin grin grin

Team Toks any day!!

What is a toks tyre? It is a used tyre that was removed from a Foreign used vehicle. (In better shape than one removed from a nigerian used vehicle tongue)

1. DO not buy a winter branded Toks tyre

2. Ensure age of toks tyre is less than 4years

3. Do not over gauge tyre (35psi max!)

4. Do not drive at speeds Exceeding 200KM/HR tongue

5. Buy Trusted brands like michelin and dunlop

Toks tyres will not fail if you Follow these guidelines.

When you talk about recommended tire pressure, you should assume it is irrelevant to the discussion since I know what it is, I see it on my B piller every day for years and have compared it to uncountable cars.

The 206 is a budget vehicle . Smaller tyres mean cheaper car anything to bring down the cost wink

Also smaller tyres also better for fuel economy.

But in the Nigerian context , you are up Against bad roads, and availability.

185 or 195 will suffice without issues
