Muslim claims they don't worship the alleged "moon-god" and that the Islamic symbol of the star and the crescent are due to the influence of the Ottoman Empire that was ruling most of the Muslim world for centuries.

Why do you still have this symbol, if there's nothing sacred or holy about it; Now, that the Ottoman empire does no longer dictate the Muslim 's world order.

Muslims in the house, any justification?

Peace be with you.

It is a consequence of dissatisfaction with the word of God. Many beliefs, laws and practices in mainstream/orthodox Islam were plagiarised from Paganism, Judaism, Christainity, Zoroastrianism and medieval Arab, Persian and Roman cultures.

Ask yourself, "what is the purpose of having moon and stars on the minaret of a House of God?". These were some of the idols which the pre Islamic Arabs joined in their worship of God.

The first mosque built by the Prophet was a simple one, no frivilous design, minaret, or prominent symbol like moon or star.

Unfortunately, decades after the Prophet 's death, minarets with moon and star were introduced to mosque by muslims. This was aimed at contesting with the Christians' churches marked with minarets and crosses. An aim they 'll permanently achieved by later banning the building of new churches in their domains to this day.

PS: It is basically conjecture that moon and star became attached to Islam during the Ottoman reign. There are reports that these symbols were introduced before the Ottomans.

I think the same reason we still speak english and or maintain the name Nigeria. Sometimes people find certain things convenient.

On the moon god issue, you would agree with me it is plain dumb to claim because someone adopts a sign it automatically means he worships it, there are countries with birds, etc on their flags. I am yet to see any muslim make claims that follows such dumb thinking.

Every religion clearly states the nature of the God it worships! Unfortunately evangelism by lies, would always stain other people to make their point.

Oh I see. Thanks. That suffices to say it is Muslims' innovation. OK.
But then again, a Muslim priest I met during in UK says innovation is Haram. I wonder what that mean?
