Accentuate, what makes a candle engulf another? Is it when the engulfing candle closes higher or lower than the previous candle in a u trend or down trend, even I it's just the shadow that made this occur? I do know that the engulfing body often has a longer real body that the previous one.

Bearish engulfing is simply when the close of the bullish candle exceed the low of the previous candle.
while bullish engulfing is when the close exceeds the high of the previous candle.
example: bearish engulfing

The engulfing pattern is a major reversal signal(Bullish or Bearish Engulfing pattern) with two opposite color real bodies composing the pattern.

According to Steve Nieson, for a perfect engulfing pattern to occur it must meet three criteria

1. The market as to be in a clearly definable uptrend or downtrend that's why in my own version of trading bullish or bearish engulfing pattern i must see atleast 3 or more consecutive bullish or bearish move before the engulfing formations.

2.Two Candlesticks comprise the engulfing pattern. The second real body must engulf the prior real body (it need not engulf the shadows)

3.The second real body of the engulfing pattern should be the opposite color of the first real body.

NOTE.If above criteria are not met please don't pull the trigger.

To make myself clear on the 3 criteria mentioned above,find attached a screenshot that summarize all the criteria.

5 minutes time frame=====>5 Minutes Expiry

15 minutes TF===========> 15 Minutes Expiry

30 minutes TF===========> 30 Minutes Expiry

60 minutes TF===========> 60 Minutes Expiry

you can trade any time if yo are using candlestick formations to analyze your trades so far all the criteria are met

a candle engulf as a result of either the bull or bear taking form.its a reversal candle which engulf the body of the previous candle, the shadows does not matter.what matters is the spot where the pattern formed.its not every engulf candle you trade.you have to spot it in a strategic zone/confluence where the odds is high.the problem is spotting it in a strategic point.this is where sharpening of chart reading is required.some people will see a piecing or dark cloud cover and call it engulfing candle.just take your time and make the chart your friend.

thanks mentioning zones... I have taken note of that before now and I feel all reversal patterns should be checked in those areas before making decisions... That is. Cross checking with previous formation

Okay guys... Let me share what I understand on engulfing pattern

1. There must be an upward or downward trend.
2. It involves 2candles of opposite colours

3. The engulfing candle closes below or above the previous candle's close ,depending on the trend.

4. The engulfing candle is lengthier than the previous candle.

5. Engulfing reversal patter is strongest where in the previous candle is so small and it engulfed by much larger candle.

Again,i'm only using the bullish/bearish engulfing candlestick that was posted here.

Guys, be wise, it's not about having 20 trades a day that matters oh 1 or two wins a day risking 5% per trade is good enough to make u successful I'm this business..... the more signals u trade a day, the more susceptible you are to getting greedy, so to all the newbies and those who can't control their emotions, Abeg just stick to analysing with 1hr charts and above so that it can help u train ur emotions @ least to take only signals that go with your strategy
And please and please don't jump from strategy to strategy like some ppl here are obviously doing probably cos the multiple strategies were freely given.
Carefully choose 1 that suits u after back testing a few, stick with it, be it "free" or "paid for", understand it, and practice to perfect ur trading with it.
Don't jump from one strategy to the other just cos u encountered a few losses, there's no holy grail apart from money management....
Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY looses money at one point in time or the other in binary N forex trading, due to the fact we can never be right 100% of the time , it's discipline with proper money management added to our good strategy that keeps us ending every week with good profit nonetheless...

Just my two cents.
