The engulfing pattern is a major reversal signal(Bullish or Bearish Engulfing pattern) with two opposite color real bodies composing the pattern.

According to Steve Nieson, for a perfect engulfing pattern to occur it must meet three criteria

1. The market as to be in a clearly definable uptrend or downtrend that's why in my own version of trading bullish or bearish engulfing pattern i must see atleast 3 or more consecutive bullish or bearish move before the engulfing formations.

2.Two Candlesticks comprise the engulfing pattern. The second real body must engulf the prior real body (it need not engulf the shadows)

3.The second real body of the engulfing pattern should be the opposite color of the first real body.

NOTE.If above criteria are not met please don't pull the trigger.

To make myself clear on the 3 criteria mentioned above,find attached a screenshot that summarize all the criteria.

Okay guys... Let me share what I understand on engulfing pattern

1. There must be an upward or downward trend.
2. It involves 2candles of opposite colours

3. The engulfing candle closes below or above the previous candle's close ,depending on the trend.

4. The engulfing candle is lengthier than the previous candle.

5. Engulfing reversal pattern is strongest where in the previous candle is so small and it engulfed by much larger candle.

My friend stop lying, you can never use that engulfing pattern on 3mins chart.
Drop your chart where u picked the alert, its either u drop it or u stop showing us your results. We are not kids

Lwkmd.... guy, take am easy oh, at least the guy's not selling u anything like I am.... I don't think the guy ever mentioned or even traded with 3mins duration or time frame,
I just checked his screen shots and saw one of his trades was 13mins duration though... but if u look at the time he took the trade u might understand why he chose to use 13mins duration instead of 15mins as he was doing for the others, he probably spotted the setup later than usual or just waited for a good entry and used the remaining time for the 15mins candle to close to set his duration....

I'm not in any way saying he does or doesn't av any tricks up his sleeves oo but his screen shots have do far not given u any reason to doubt his claim..

I for one can tell u authoritatively that those patterns work if you have patience to wait for good setups because I have used them in the past and still use them once in a while till date.... U just have to study it very well and be very patient

Check few pages back, he started with 2-3mins and increased it to 13-15mins, I am not a newbie neither am I looking for strategy. I hate it when peeps come here to show their stunts but when you ask them simple question, they will start beating around the bush. Those setups are not any engulfing patterns, you can check the time and your charts if you doubt me.
I can even swear that he doesn't have upto $30 in his live acc (I know his type). Why am mad at him is that even when accentuate asked him to help explain in his own term but he responded like a politician. Read his reply again to see what I mean.

There isn't any trick to anything whatsoever in those patterns,they are just patterns and it takes DISCIPLINE AND PATIENCE to really appreciate those patterns very well.

I understand your point as I have personally tried trading with candle pattern. The truth is that it is practically difficult if not impossible to trade binary using only those patterns. There is more to it, either candle pattern and S/R combo, or you apply it to other strategies.

I also appreciate the efforts of Sunwalk, Accentuate, among others. I believe that a trader who sincerely wants to teach newbie (especially) will carry them along with live trades for like a week. This will not only give a thorough explanation, but also expose the trainees to the reason behind every trade and we both calculate the profitability.

This is my humble opinion as you all have to bear with me. Am not criticizing anyone. Am saying this because some strategies posted here are not profitable has claimed. Take for example, using only candle formation pattern without any combo.

NOTE: Am just talking based on the little experience I have in trading and can be proved wrong with live trades.
No one should get it twisted

@Ayoola190:The only system that you can confidently trade and ever stand the test of time is candlestick pattern because if you really understand it you feel the rhythm of the market. indicators are built on the reaction and impulse of candles. you don't need any combo indicators to trade with candlestick all what you need is to understand the criteria and conditions need to be met before trading any candlestick pattern be it Engulfing pattern,Shooting star,piercing pattern and others.

Regarding your comment of carrying newbies along with live trades, last year before nairaland site was hacked i suggested to run live candlestick class here on this thread at no cost so that we can all understand the pattern but nobody signify interest.now i don't have that time because am occupy with so many things.

I Have nothing to prove because i know that the system work perfectly well if you follow the criteria and the conditions duly. I think is you that will prove to newbies that the system rocks if you can permit me to give you one small assignment for 1 week starting from Monday.

1. Open a Demo account with any brokers of your choice

5. Give us your feedback on Friday am very sure you will definitely sing a new song and your mentality will change towards trading candlestick independently with their major pattern.


With the screenshot you posted if i were there when the formation occurred, i will confidently place 2 valid trades
