These are the most sought after universities in Nigeria according to figures released by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board.

The figures represent the amount of application requests sent to universities in the country for offers of admission in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for the year 2015.

The figures are an addition of candidates' applications from 1st to 4th choice for each institution.


University of Ilorin, Ilorin – 107,488

University of Benin, Benin – 71,496

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka – 70,609

University of Nigeria, Nsukka – 66,788

University of Lagos, Lagos – 62,472

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria - 60,237

University of Ibadan, Ibadan – 47,497

Bayero University, Kano – 46,801

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife – 43,965

University of Jos, Jos - 41,286

University of Uyo – 41,645

Really? my alma mater is among mostly sought schools? *blushing* but i was a bit disappointed when i got in cos what i saw was way below my expectation.

Till today, am still paying for its ineptness embarassed

Some never learn their lesson, they keep applying to these hyped universities and keep missing out on admission. A degree is still a degree whichever qualified university you get it from.

Unilorin...always the most sought after...since the days of Socrates and Plato.


Unilorin will admit about 7,000. Not easy attending the only federal school that doesn't belong to ASUU.

FUTO is a university of technology with a limited number of courses for mostly science students so you shouldn't expect it to be among the most sought after.
