Defensively, Valencia might not be the be the best RB in the world but I'd rather play him against hazard than gamble with a match-rusty Rafael who would cop a yellow card in the 3rd minute ( by dragging hazard's shirt in Chelsea's 18yard box ).....after which nervousness go set in.

If Rooney has to play in midfield because of this, too bad. We can only be hopeful our attackers do well upfront!

This is not the time to start Falcao. Starting Falcao and moving Rooney to midfield would weaken both attack and midfield simultaneously.
We need to keep Rooney up front, Fellaini and Young at LCM and LWF, Mata keeps his place at RWF with someone like Rafael at RCM, keep Valencia at RB.
The big question is can Herrera replace Carrick?

perreira has the talent to replace rafael in that my formation i.e herrera's RCM position but as you said too many rookies might spoil the broth

Our problem is lack of a DM and Pereira is not even one.

I'd rather gamble Herrera there than a rookie.

I think you are right that this is what LVG would do, but it would be a mistake IMO. Valencia is more discipline and more match fit as a defender than Rafael while Rafael is more technically gifted and creative than Valencia. If LVG thinks outside the box he would keep Valencia in defence and move Rafael to midfield.

Rafael @ RB & Valencia @ RMF will only be on paper IMO. we all know who will be overlapping & who will be covering. the merit is that Hazard or whoever can be on lockdown on that left as well as Valencia's pawa in squaring up to Matic in CM while we know Chelshit's right side will be there mainly to stop Young & Fellaini, so this could give us an edge on wingplay which could still count for something in the end.

i would play herrera, valencia & fellaini in the midfield. rafael, smalling, mcnair & shaw in the defence. rooney, young, mata in the attack. the only problem with this team is the lack of height.

chelsea have terry, cahill, matic, zouma, ivanovic & drogba - they would get the height advantage in any set piece situation. this is so fücked up. LVG said kompany's tackle on blind was more serious than he thought.

I just dont see the 11 we can put out that would give us a chance at the bridge now. Like you said, we'll lack height, form and experience at the back now.
