My observations from the match ...


- Rooney was sh1t today ...but he didn't receive anything from the midfield ,we still need a striker cos Wazza cannot get us 20 goals (or maybe he can)

- LVG is still experimenting ... He said we will start with the 4-3-3 formation this season n yet we hv never seen it.

- Players should be played in their respective positions... Memphis was pretty useless today cos he was used infield instead of the wings while mata kept drifting in from the right as he still sucks as a winger

- LVG needs to start making the right subs this season ... Removing darmian for Valencia who nearly cost us a goal is a bad move.

- We tasted our own medicine today ... Tottenham gave us a dose of our own medicine ,the slow buildup play ,the possession hugging n the counter pressing when the ball is lost. We almost expect everyone we play against to get men behind the ball n counter but it wasn't the case today.

- This is the first match of the season so... We got lucky today but this is just the first match of the season n players r still feeling their way into the team so there shouldn't be too much criticism.

- We need three more signings... Judging from this game ,we need three more signings if we r going to challenge for any trophy this year. A physical defender , a goalkeeper (if DDG leaves) and an attacking midfielder (preferably Pedro or Grieazman)

I don't think we need a GK, Romero did a good job. What i think we need is a CB (Otamendi), an attacking midfielder/winger (Pedro) and a striker. If Rooney repeats more of his lazy displays of today in other matches, we're doomed!!

Downsides in todays match:
**Mata shouldn't have started, he doesn't look sharp and his passes are too dangerous(might cause his team mate to get injured), he passes the ball when the opponents have crowded him and the receiver out.
**Mata should either be played in 10 and Depay on the wing or Mata be benched for Herrera.
**No chemistry between our CF and the trio of Depay, Mata and Young. Depay even seemed to understand Rooney better than the other two, no precise passes to the CF unless when he drops deep.
**Rooney's hold up was good, keeping the ball and waiting for his team mates to flood foward but 'Unfortunately' he has forgotten how to play as a CF, no dangerous runs behind the defense, Kane was better as a CF than Rooney today. Rooney will be more useful playing behind a CF than being a CF. WE NEED A NEW CF.
**LVG substituted Darmain for Valencia. Damn!! Who does that? I was expecting Val to replace Mata and finally lock down that right wing. Matteo was fantastic, he took no prisoners, his principle is 'its either he has the ball or you don't have the ball.'
**Yet still Herrera should have replaced mata and then Depay moved to the wing. We are seriously caging Depay's ability playing him in 10, he needs freedom to run at players 1-on-1, 10 is meant for passing the ball not dribbling and cutting, LVG should get his act together and stop altering our players positions. Even Depay was both surprised and very angry when he was substituted(na so Di Maria own start oo, and we all know how it ended), depay should be allowed pick a position because the dude has potentials i swear.

There's a debate as to whether gomis was goal bound and as such cortouis sent off.
The studs up could be the reason for him getting red.

It might be early but that Darmian signing and consigning Valencia to the bench appears to be one thing Plato has gotten right.

**Romero is confident. Though he showed he was nervous in the 1st half(anybody would be in their 1st match in a new league) with some untidy passes, but it takes only a confident keeper to stay calm and interchange passes with his backline even when under pressure. Some good saves too.
**Darmian is a beast and untochable. No stories here, he pocketed anyone who ran at him.
**Smalling has really really improved, mehn!! I was like na smalling be this? He stayed on his feet against the opposition, tackled hard, strong, gallant and towering. Match winning perfomance.
**Blind might have been anonymous, but thats because he did he's job neatly and quietly.
**Schneiderlein looked slack on the ball, yes he wins them back and had some few long range passes and also broke up play many times, but needs to be sharper and quicker on the ball.
