Your Top 3 Prison TV Series? by Nobody: 11:32am On Jan 27, 2016
There is something about prison dramas that makes one yearn for more. Maybe it's our fascination that Man as a specie is the only one with enough intelligence or lack thereof to lock his own kind in a cage. Or maybe it has something to do with the genre's unique take on human nature behind closed walls. Or maybe it's in our nature to obsess and romanticize about things that are obscure and distant, thus, relatively safe, etc.

Anyhoo, over the years, I've watched lots and lots of prison TV series and movies, learnt a lot from each, but only 5 were significant enough to make an impact on my mind. They were:

1. OZ

If you think American correctional facilities is a place you can go, serve your time in relatively peace and quiet, then come out a reformed person, this prison drama from HBO did it's utmost best to dissuade that notion.
Bottom line, American Prison is a concrete and steel jungle - a place you gotta form alliances to survive. Correctional Officers ain't there only to restore order and make sure you don't escape, but there to be bought and used to your adversary's advantage, so better watch your back... always. This drama is so brutally honest as to how life in prison works, that the level of violence depicted in virtually every episode would make even the most cynical ones amongst us cringe.

2. Prison Break

Okay, it might not be as brutal and violent as Oz, but it's every bit as exciting.
But quite unlike Oz whereby the entirety of the plots revolved inside the prison walls as was the norm, Prison Break just like it's name implied deviated. This drama from FOX was unique in the sense that it focused more on how to get away from prison rather than life inside it. The intellect and ingenuity of the protagonist, Michael Scofield was a joy to behold.
What this drama may lack in dialogue, element of realism, and intrigue, it more than made up for in sheer grit and identity.

3. Bad Girls

This ITV drama from the UK is basically a female version of Oz in it's honest, no-holds-barred depiction of what female prison life in a developed country looks like on the inside. You think it's only male prisoners that can be mean and ruthless? Think again.

4. Wentworth

A somewhat watered down version of Bad Girls, this Australian Prison drama from FOXTEL is every bit as engaging.

5. Orange Is The New Black

Netflix's original, OITNB tends to glorify female life in prison, as it explores it's humorous side.

What's your own top 5 or top 3 if you haven't watched that many?

I actually think I haven't watched any, I might have watched the crossover episode of Bad Girls with Footballer's Wives. Oh I did! Although, I might have watched a few episodes of Bad Girl in series 1, I'm really not sure. I tried Prison Break once, I was watching everything, but my tv...

Oh and FW is the quintessential it's so bad it's good tv series.

Yup. Shawshank is not the sort of movie one forgets in a hurry. Left quite an impression on me when I watched it like 10 years ago. Actually, it's what motivated me to start scurrying for any good prison movies and shows I can lay my hands on. All the more reason to watch Oz since both got a lot of similarities. In fact, Shawshank Redemption partially inspired Oz.

Wentworth is solid. Good stuff. Don't let the Aussie accents put you off. I would advice you watch it with subtitles so you wouldn't miss a quote.

Briskfile and Promptfile consistently host HD video files... alas both don't support pause and resume. Most dependable is Thevideo.me, however, as it always seem to have whatever you may be looking for, and, you're given an option to download a resolution of 240p, 360p and for more recent video files, 480p.

My favorite is streamin.to. It host video files ranging from 360 to 720p. IDM does the job for moi too.
