Congratulations brother, however just like u, some of us are probably awaiting decisions and as u probably might agree, people rarely take gre @ dis time nor apply 4 visas, hence d reason 4 d silence I guess and every newbies will always be anxious to get added to d group, I was there once, so relax, we are still together


What amount of funding or assistantship were u offered Sir

People are actually taking the test. Seats are getting filled up almost everyday on the GRE portal for Nigeria. I've been checking religiously for the past two weeks now. I want to write in May. But... Seats are filled up even for May. I hope they open it up again.

Nevertheless, I have some pertinent questions I would love to put up here; scholarship funding is a must for me if I must pursue graduate education In the US. Hence, I would really wanna know how far-reaching this grants really are? (I am gunning for assistantship....shouldn't be hard to get), I mean does it cover visa, ticket etc?. I did a Kaplan online mock last month and was not too impressed (combined score of 286 in verbal and quant no analytical). Please people with valuable info, help a brother make an informed decision and I promise to post here often.lol

Most schools that offer graduate programs in the US have Graduate Assistantship positions. Such position cover all or part of your tuition and pay some stipends to cover living costs. Some get the position in the first semester while others only do after they have arrived campus. They do not cover visa fees or flight costs unfortunately. Scholarships like Mastercard foundation scholarship and some government scholarships cover that. Your getting a position depends on your academic profile and applying to the right programs. You need a GPA of at least 3.0,acceptable GRE scores, good letters of recommendation. Good luck.

what exactly do you mean by 'acceptable GRE scores?' Anyway thanks for the reply.
I have over 76% cgpa already, the . References will be frommy lecturers. One more thing, when is the deadline for application likely to be?

Acceptable is relative. If you applying to a top ten engineering program, your score should be at least a 325. Top 50 programs like Arizona and Iowa would still accept between 310 and 320. If you are applying for engineering programs, your aim should be at least 160 on the Quant section. Some schools would even accept a GRE score of less than 300. Some don't even need the test. Good schools have their deadlines at the beginning of the year, given high number of applications they receive.

I am not sure of what it translates to on a percentage. Your GPA is okay. Just focus on getting at least a 310 on the test.
