Dear Nigerians, do you really know what is behind the Orobo chicken? Sometimes I wonder why we should be buying frozen chicken when we have different species of fowls and chickens in Nigeria. It's high time we make use of what we have.
I was born and brought up in Kaduna but my first time of eating frozen chicken was when I left kaduna to school and seek greener pastures in other parts of Nigeria. That's because my mum reared chickens, Turkeys and goats (all of different species). Besides that, almost every family in the North usually rear animals of different species. If you can't rear birds, you will definitely get the strong live ones in the market to buy, and if you can't kill it, the person you are buying it from will direct you to who will kill it for you and even pieces it. That's the advantage of Northern Nigeria when it comes to rearing of animals. Even here in Moscow, most of the Russians know the exact chicken to buy. For me and some of the fellow students here, we go for the hard chicken. I can't imagine myself buying these fat chickens.
Nigerians, please value your health. You see the whites importing these chickens to us are very cunning and don't eat it. This is fraud as far as I am concerned.

After I watched a clip on genetic modifications on these chickens on YouTube and how the manipulate it I decided that no matter what I will stop, avoid and resist eating these so called imported chickens, just imagine this one on the video who knows what they are shooting in to these carcass, God forbid.

And you think the so called hard chicken (layers by the way) are not genetically modified because the are not " Orobo"... The feeds are equally modified for them to lay large Orobo eggs, they are not bred for meat..In UK its only Africans that eat layers, you won't see them in any popular supermarkets, you will need to visit Pakistani or Turkish butchers that serve ethnic minorities.. The are very cheap btw and are mostly used for dog and cat food by the Brits..

I can't vouch for the authenticity of that video which came out a long time ago, but one thing I know is this, I have been to UK farms with large
Chickens bigger than the ones in the video.. And they were not injected with any chemical... In most cases, it boils down to understanding and implementation of science behind raising chickens..


The sad thing is, greedy importers are importing meat from countries where quality control is absolute zero ( especially old soviet blocs / Eastern Europe).. I won't be surprised if people are importing dead/ sick birds as frozen meat.. Good meat cost money trust me..

Nigerians should stop been lazy, you can build a chicken coop with 10 to 15 in your backyard. At least you will know what you are feeding them, its not that difficult..
