I couldn't get across to you because there is simply no way to get across to you...

However, I have suggestions to make in order to improve Nairaland and make it more interactive while still keeping it Nigerian. These suggestions are:

1. The 'LIKE' button is like something you copied from Facebook and is reminiscing of FB and making it look as if you were trying to copy things from FB to make Nairaland acceptable. I feel this button should be removed and replaced with the 'HAIL' button if someone agrees with a comment which is in line with his/her thoughts and ideology. This is more Nigerian and very innovative and would do whatsoever the 'LIKE' button has been doing in/for Nairaland.

2. I don't see what the 'SHARE' button is doing on Nairaland, when clicking on it doesn't actually share the comment in the forum or anywhere else. In my opinion, I'm thinking you intended it to act more like a 'dislike' button without stating so for reasons obvious to you. I might be mistaken, but I noticed that that is exactly what the button is being used for. i.e. to show descent, disagreement or dislike. I am suggesting therefore that the 'SHARE' button be removed and replaced with 'WAIL'. I believe this is very Nigerian and should be used to show disagreement, descent or dislike for a comment...

These are my few suggestions, however, the onus lies on you to either effect or not effect the changes being proposed here. Thank you in advance as you take a look at my suggestions to see whether they can make Nairaland better. I rest my case.

Op I agree with you on the first one. It's more Nigerian to use " Hail" or " nayoubiko" than the like button.
I hope seun listens.

This issue is long overdue.

To "like" a comment/post is not the only emotion one can express.

It may mean NL dev has carried over the import dependent mentality of Nigerian economy, or the work load is so much that is deprives them of time for creative thinking or taking a look at suggestions.

I created a similar thread on this issue way back

I quite agree with y @proudlyngwa
Nland is now so much bigger than Seun and he has to do something to curtail all the madness that flies around here cos it wl only take one very careless treasonable comment that wl catch the powers that be attention to get him in trouble!

Seun shd put measures in place to make people hv civil conversations-agree to disagree! There was a time when Nairaland was a place where u come in and learn something but this days just reading through comments insults ones intelligence!

I suggest limiting access to certain places for people who register monikers by the second jst to either spam or peddle slur until the person post a certain number of HIGH QUALITY posts in a place meant for them.

2. Any current member banned will have to go through a similar process (less stringent though i.e if 1 above will have to make 20 quality posts, a current member banned will make like 10 to be readmitted)

3. Seun can also Create a space where those low quality posts wc involves slurs et al can be made and any comment outside this zone gets one an immediate ban. This shd be done if he still wants to admit everybody.

This chases the spammers/trolls out of this place because you wont register a new moniker today and start spamming everywhere with "who Tonto epp?" on a topical issue and keeps current members civil cos they wouldn't want to go join the queue to be vetted.

This is good for business because in the long run we will have a clean forum that advertisers will want to advertise to not one where u read comments that the poster is entitled to but is not entitled to be on a forum.

P.S: Get that share button, dnt see its use!

Impersonation:
The main issue is with the users with the change of gender to disguise to get more attention is another problem.. nl should not allow a change of gender after been registered.

Identity:
if an account belongs to a blogger.. It should be tagged eg. demiblog, falcocblog. And instead of m or f it should be identified as c - company.

Uniqueness:
bloggers and mods/admin account should have a semi awesome difference from a normal user .

Buttons:
And the issue of likes and share button i think it should be allowed but just add dislike button.
And it should be indicated in the notification box who liked and disliked ones post. Thanks

Must I go start my own forum because I have a little suggestions that could improve Nairaland?

Did you see any hate in my opening post?

Why are you like this? Someone made a little suggestion to see how he can contribute to the Forum he enjoys visiting daily and you start throwing invectives on him...

Are you hating on Seun and looking for a way to destroy his work? I just don't get it. Nairaland is what it is today, because many people still visit it and make posts/comments here. Whatsoever your reasons are for advising people to go open their own forum, is best known to you. Do you think this is the first Nigerian forum? Or the only Nigerian forum?
