He detested deceit and infidelity. Marriage, to him, meant putting an end to promiscuity—or was it adultery?

How did I end up in this mess? I never thought I'd get caught, especially not like this. I married a man I felt nothing for. My parents pressured me, and I couldn't refuse.

"He's a good young man," they insisted. "A devout Christian. He loves you like no other. What more could you want, dear?"

"But Mom, I don't love him. I don't want to hurt him. I love someone else."

"Listen, Ng, I speak from experience. Don't dismiss a good man. If he loves you deeply, it's for the best. He'll treat you right. He doesn't smoke or drink. Consider it," Mom urged, seeking Dad's support.

"Angel, your mom's right. We can't deceive you. We love you and want the best. You may think it's old-fashioned, but we just want your happiness," Dad added.

"But Dad, I can't live with someone I don't love," I cried. "Please don't make me do this."

I was so confused. My head spun as if there were a party inside. My heart was in turmoil. Who am I to defy my parents' wishes? That's how I ended up in this sham of a marriage. But now, caught in a hotel room with another man I love, by my supposed husband, I wished I had disobeyed my churchy parents just once.
