As you know, our world is phenomenon. Aside from this, its main inhabitants, humans, are also phenomenon. There a lot of things that happened and are still happening around the world and beyond, that when we get to know, they seem incomprehensible. From natural occurrences to space exploration to natural ingenuity, these facts shows how mythical the world and its inhabitants are.

Science have tried to explain but this got me rolling anytime any day because the more it tries to find an answer, the more complex the myth becomes. Well, let me leave grammar for now because this is not the time for such…lol. I compiled this list with brief description of these interesting facts and I hope you read to the end.

1. Namib Desert

Have you seen pictures of a desert sharing borderline with an ocean? You may have wondered if it was photoshop, but hey friends, it is so real. The name of the place is called Namib Desert. It is located in Namibia. It shares almost 2,000 kilometers long boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. According to studies carried out, this desert, despite entering into the ocean, is one of the driest places and the oldest desert in the world. It was also reported that it has existed for over 53 million years making it the oldest desert in the world. It cut across Namibia, South Africa and Angola.

2. Catatumbo Lightning

This is also one of the most interesting facts about the world. It is a very strange natural occurrence. The Catatumbo lightning occurs at the edge of the Catatumbo river in Venezuela. Lightning occurs there 280 times per hour, 10 hours per day and up to 260 nights a year. I bet it, the place will be so scary.

3. Center of the Universe

The “center of the universe” is a spot in Tulsa, Oklahoma in United States where the law of sound and reflection (physics) is defiled. The diameter of this spot is about 30 inches. Bricks are made to indicate the circle. The real deal about this circle is that if you make a sound (no matter how low) while standing at the center of this circle, it will become so loud as if there is a sound booster. However, the most interesting fact about this place is that no one outside the circle (no matter how close you are to the circle) will hear your extremely loud voice.

4. Tristan da Cunha

Tristan da Cuhan is the most remote human settlement in the world. It is an archipelago in South Atlantic Ocean. It is 1500 miles from South Africa and 1200 miles from the nearest inhabited island.

5. Immortal Jellyfish

Have you ever dreamt of becoming immortal? Hmm…if you had, then you are just like me. The only problem is, we are not jellyfish. A few species of jellyfish known as "Turritopsis Dohrnii" are the only living thing with immortality. These species are found in the Mediterranean Sea. They have the ability to transform into babies anytime they are old. There is no limit to this ability. This makes them immortals.

6. Taiping Civil War

In contrast to popular views that World War I and II are the deadliest in history, it is on record that the Taiping civil war, otherwise known as China civil war is the second deadliest in history. The death toll in this war was only surpassed by World War II. The war reportedly started with a dream by a young scholar who claimed to be the younger brother of Jesus Christ. It is believed that over 60 million died during the war.

7. Honey Fungus - Mushroom

The largest living thing in the world is an underground mushroom. It measures a staggering 3.8km in diameter and it’s found in the Blue Mountains in Oregon, United States.

8. Female Kangaroo

With its very complex reproductive system, a female kangaroo has three vaginas. Each of these vaginas have their respective functions. One is used to hold pregnancy, the second is used to house the pouch, while the last one is used to reserve embryo in the uterus.

9. Condoms

The oldest sets of condom were found at Dudley castle, precisely in a Cesspit. When examined, they were found to be dated as far back as 1640 and were made from animal and fish intestines.

10. Loneliest Creature in the World

The loneliest creature in the world is a whale who have been making distinct sound to reach out to a mate. However, for over 20 years, no whale have respond to the call because its sound differs from other whales.

11. First Person to Urinate on the Moon

So many people dream of visiting the moon someday. But how extra special would it be to urinate on the moon. The first man to ever urinate on the moon is Buzz Aldrin, an astronaut from the United States. He did that after he stepped out of the lunar module, erected the United States flag and gave a salute.

12. Giethoorn Village

The village of Giethoorn is located in the Netherlands. The special thing about this village is that it has no road whatsoever. All its houses are connected by footbridges and canals.

13. Longest Musical Performance

St Burchardi Church, located in Halburstadt, Germany is currently hosting the longest musical performance in history. The performance started on 8th Sept 2001 and is expected to end in 2640. The performance involve playing each musical note as slow as possible. The last time they changed the key was in October 2013 and the next key will be played in 2020. They are performing Organ2/ASLSP(As slow as possible) by John Cage.

14. Epidemic of Laughing

Have you ever imagined people laughing uncontrollably as if they are on remote censor? Hmm…this epidemic of laughing was something like that. It happened in Tanzania in 1962 where thousands of people were affected with the epidemic. They did not just laugh uncontrollably, they felt pain, rashes and fainted.

15. Spanish National Anthem

The essence of a national anthem is for the citizens to sing patriotic words thus showing their love for the country. However, do you know that the Spanish national anthem has no single word? It is in fact the only national anthem with no word in the world. All you have to do is to listen to the instrumentals.

16. Nose Breathing

When we breathe through our nostrils, we inhale more air in one hole than the other. This system changes every 15 minutes. What a perfect natural “programming”.

17. Octopus

Octopus have three hearts, nine brains and blue blood. Two of the hearts pump blood through its two gills, while the third pumps blood through the body. The blue blood makes it possible to survive in a deep ocean because its body secretes copper (hemocyanin) which turns its blood to blue.

18. Mosquito Bites

You may have wondered if mosquito bites could lead to complete blood drain. Well, the fact is that it will take 1.2 million mosquitoes to completely drain an average human blood.

19. Giraffe Mating

A male giraffe head butts the female in the bladder until it urinates. When she does, the male will taste it to know whether she’s ovulating or not.

20. Fallstreak Holes

The Fallstreak holes is the term used to explain an extremely phenomenon cloud formation in East Victoria, Australia. This is the only place such occur in the world and many believe its UFO. The phenomenon is attributed to freezing level of water in the atmosphere.
