Hello house

PS: I arrived Melbourne about a month ago and so far it has been good. Yet to get a job (casual, part time, or professional), but I'm working on it. Accommodation and transportation are relatively expensive. The weather is okay although it fluctuates a lot. Aussies hail from all over the world with the Brits and Asians dominating (relative population). I'm yet to discover a Nigerian network or community here (well, I'm indoors most times). So if you're in Melbourne or any other part of Australia, Holla @ me. I'll be happy to connect.

Brother, the best and fastest way to integrate and connect is to find one of those suitable Nigerian Churches... I think that should help with adapting fast. some of them could help with necessary links and references for the job hunt.

mctowel01:

They're on pro rata because there is a higher number of EOIs, compared to the existing available occupations invite slots left. Hence, they're pro rata to increase the required points for such occupations. Way round it is to increase your points.. like 70 will be needed for mechanical and 65 for electronics to get a swift invite.
In all, the best move is to start early, so if they remain on the Sol, you will probably get an invite in the first round of July... If you delay, you ll end up continuing in the same cycle, albeit with stronger competition

Thanks mctowel. But 65 - 70 points no be beans oh...Anyhow sha, God dey!

Is it possible to control who they can direct such mail to. There are so many bureaucracy in my place of work and the people at the top does not even understand my job schedule and role.

The letter headed paper for my unit has the contact details of the head of my unit and phone number while my employment letter and promotion has that of admin people who might be mischievous atimes. Don't want anybody to throw sand sand into my garri ooo.

The emails are @ company's domain and not free emails.

The person they contacted was not the person that signed my reference. My advice is for you to go through your HR department cos they will most likely contact with the most senior admin officer/HR to verify the letter. They contacted him via official email address and asked him to verify if the person that signed is authorised, how much i earn monthly and if my work is full term or part time.

@bellong:
Welcome back. Seem you took a break from here. It appears as if you have missed my question to you while you were away.

Anyone with useful information could also share.

From readings on page 0, you show no much support for the subclass 489 visa due to the lack of support from government. E.g medicare.

Apart from the above, can you please highlight any other downside to this visa category. Is it that it might be impossible or difficult in some cases to be able to convert to a permanent visa after the first two years elapses?

Cheers

[quote author=humanshado post=47631763]To support what @Bellong has mentioned. It is highly advisable to assess both your educational qualification and relevant work experience for the following reasons.

1) If you plan to practice as an Engineer you have to belong to EA and your assessment will serve as the starting point for stage 1.
2) It validates your foreign degree that gives comfort to employers in Australia.
3) Assessing your relevant work experience makes it easier for Australian Immigration to process your application and hence makes it faster. 99.99% of the time, Australian Immigration accepts EA's number of years for work experience. This saves you the trouble of unnecessary work validation process during visa processing.

When I initially applied to EA for assessment, I applied under Washington Accord for my MSc from UK. EA told me that my MSc was not enough to be considered under Washington Accord since my BEng was not from the UK. I had to assess my BEng through CDR and use the MSc as continuing professional development. Therefore I had to re-apply under CDR + Relevant Work Experience Assessment. That going back and forth wasted some precious time and I feel I should share it with you to avoid it. I also advise you to use fast track option if you can afford the addtional AUD275. It is worth it - trust me.

Please note that when submitting your application to EA, you have to nominate an occupation that you will be assessed on since it is CDR. As long as you have a degree in Engineering, it usually does'nt matter what field of Engineering you nominated provided that you can prove to EA that you have relevant work experience in that field. In writing my CDR, I used my MSc thesis and the other two from the work I did in the profession I nominated. Use professional Engineer as @Bellong mentioned.

Good luck!

thank you for this update, much appreciated. i have an OND in mechanical engineering and bsc in mechanical as well, i was thinking if i could assess my OND as CDR and use my BEng as continuing professional development. please your answer would be highly appreciated. thank you

I have a downside to tell you about... extensive search of the job websites in Australia has made it evident to me that there is one major requirement to get most professional jobs... "Applicant must be a Citizen or a Permanent Resident" ... with any other visa, 489 included, its quite difficult to get jobs in your own profession... na low-key jobs pesin go dey mainly do.... 489 costs the same as the others... more actually, each region in NSW for example charges extra A$770 for the application... so, what bellong said is understandable - if you qualify for 189 or 190, its better to do them straight up...

And theres another issue.. converting to Permanent resident visa 887 from 489 depends on having a job for 12 months out of the two years.... now we dont know whether that job has to be a professional job...and we've already established that professional jobs are hard to get on that visa.

SA state nomination for SYSTEM Administrator now requires a whooping 80points. Can anyone suggest another occupation for a computer science graduate.

Yet to put in for ACS though
Any advice
Computer network professionals

or Software and Applications Programmers

You studied Computer Science... surely you can do one of those two... They are both on SOL... pro-rata.. but then, you just calculated 70 points.,....

Thanks bnimz but I'm trying to avoid pro rata list... my total point is 75 grin or with this my high point does it mean I don't have to wait f 6months for ITA.
I read somewhere that prorata means longerr waiting time
My current employer has an office in adelaide that's why am shooting for SA nomination on on 190

5 points from SA nomination.... Those occupations are on SOL, which means no state nomination required which means you have 70 points.

in addition, both occupations are pro-rata at 65 points. with 70 points, you'll jump the entire pro-rata queue and get invited immediately.. no waiting.

As for current employer... 189 gives you freedom to work in ALL STATES... that includes SA.

@ Bnimz, I do not think it is hard for someone to convert 489 to 887 as long as you either work part or full time also you can still get a professional jobs with 489.

I have a friend in NT that went with 489 in 2014, he is a lecturer (Dr)in one of the university they just got their PR late last year I believe everything is God grace and favor.

You can imagine Northern territory that always issue 489 even when you apply for 190 and they are the only state that nominate your skill what will the person do reject it and stay in Naija because it's 489.

You can't without transcript. You have to upload it with other documents.

Oh wow! Very insightful. Thanks but this is the situation.
We do not qualify for 189 because Call or contact center manager, is only on SA's special conditions(80 points) list. Having calculated our points, it's 70
Age: 30
Qualification: 15
Experience: 5
English test(assumed): 20

Meanwhile, a closely related occupation- Customer service Manager is available on 489. That's why we're considering it.

Certainly one can get professional jobs.. I merely said its tougher than if you have PR...

And yes, all na God's favor, afterall people get jobs without having any visa at all.. from outside the country.. wey be say na employer sef go con dey hustle the visa for dem...

And yes of course 489 is FAR better than staying in naija... Staying in naija is not an option at all.... grin

All I was saying is, just as Bellong said, as long as you qualify for 189 or 190, 489 is not an attractive option... its the last resort when you have no other choice...

This is a classic case of not having an option.... proceed bro... but wait, you said WE... What about Partner points? that should put you on 75... add nomination, = 80...
Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by SegunWamiri(m): 9:37pm On Jan 25, 2017
Oh yeah, I actually added partner point (English proficiency) at the initial stage and that was why I was hopeful for 190. Then I recently read here that partner points is only relevant in a case where both have a similar nomination and has been assessed positively.......except I didn't get the point o. Please correct me if I'm wrong

@Segunwamiri,

As explained by both Bnimz and Utcheylee, 489 is good when it is the only cheap option you have left. I only discourage it for people who because of rewriting English test wants to switch to 489.

489 costs same in terms of finance and stress as 189 and 190 but it doesn't come with any government benefits. If you have to study, you pay same fee as International students etc.

You must have professional job for at least 12 months before applying for permanent resident, though you can get around this.

It has the condition of living in your nominated region spelt out unlike 190 that is a moral obligation. On 489, it is a lawful obligation, if you don't get job in the region, you will have to go through process to get released.

Yes, people get jobs on 489 and are doing very well. However, things can be a lot easier on a 189 and 190 especially for married people with kids or those who still want to go to school.

On 489, employer can only offer you contract terms and not permanent employment until you change your visa.

Like I said, I will not discourage anybody whose only option is a 489 or student visa. It is still a better choice provided you have a backup plan to mitigate situations if things don't go as planned especially in the early stage of arrival.

All the best bro.

Is it possible and advisable to front load medicals even before assessment result is out.

Am asking because it's likely a "bun in the oven" story might enter the equation before EOI.

I like to factor in all variables when I make my calculations.

...... thank you house

Better to keep that "bun" out of the oven if you can help it o... Other people dey the same situation wey dey put "buns" on hold.... But ya, I have not seen anything that prevents you from doing medicals even before submitting EOI... I merely haven't seen anybody who has done it... grin
