Simple question for you:

Who will invest in an economy with an unstable, multiple and scarce FX?

The same people that will invest in an economy without infrastructure and major security issues.

Unstable, multiple, and scarce FX did not happen out of the blue. If oil revenue did not fall and the stupid FG did not blow hot steam against the Niger Delta, we wouldn't have FX scarcity issues. If the government did not wait for more than 18 months to release a fiscal policy document (From May 2015 to March 2017), we wouldn't have multiple exchange rates, because fiscal policies would have complemented monetary policies.

It is very convenient that you create a problem, do nothing, and then blame another person for not providing the solution.

The CBN have always been injecting dollar into the market since the peg in 2015, but the parallel market thrives on speculation. If speculators (like predators) sense weakness in the CBN posturing, rate will fall, whether the CBN pumps millions or not. 180 million Buharis cannot stop that.

Interesting analysis.

But we all don't realise that CBN is not doing anything different.
From the days of OBJ to Jonathan, CBN has always been selling $$ to banks and BDCs.

It was just in this present Buhari regime that it couldn't be sustained because of the recession and reduced earnings from oil exports cos of the frequent pipeline bombings & low oil prices then.

So if anyone thinks CBN is going to stop selling $$ to banks and BDCs now that the Nigerian economy is gradually picking up and coming out of recession and oil prices have improved and our oil exports have increased.

The person dey waste him time.

Shebi black market price has almost converged to CBN official price for invisible items, medical & education, PTA/BTA payments.

CBN selling dollars to banks when oil was above $100/barrel is not the same as CBN selling dollars to banks when oil is less than $50/barrel. This is common sense.

Oil exports are at their highest now (2.2 million barrels). Oil price will not go past $60 in the short to medium term. The CBN has run out of tricks.

The last trick left in the book is to use fiscal policies to prop up the economy. Unfortunately, you and I know our FG is retar.ded.

Federal government that cannot formulate fiscal policy within 18 months, is that one a federal government?

Unless you guys want the FG to keep propping the dollar while our reserves fall. Eat now, become hungry tomorrow. Na the normal black man way before. Myopia.

A strong naira is bad for the Nigeria economy, because to the market size of Nigeria it makes the nation an importation based and dependent one. Secondly , the cbn and buhari had been working hard to raise the foreign reserve of the nation to the least required level of 30billion which is still very very very poor for a nation of over 180 million ppl.they did this despite criticisms from all quarters only for osinbajo to throw it away within 1month of acting as president. Now over 1 billion dollars of the nation reserves has been spent to push up the naira, only for the dollars to leave the nation again to china and other countries so what is the point? The fx that should have been used to develop the nation production infrastructure has been given to abokiss and bdc to sell, now there is dollars everywhere with little increase in production activities. The dollars been released will only aid more importation of finished goods thereby destroying the economy. When the rate was 500,exportation of non oil products had increased and ppl were beginning to come to Nigeria and buy Nigeria goods because it was cheaper.now that the nation naira has temporarily risen ,there will definitely be a shortfall in exportation activities

You seem to have forgotten that presently.......non-oil dollar receipts are now greater than oil receipts.

With these two combined.......why would you feel that they would stop selling to banks & BDCs anytime soon.

Oil prices being $100 then was just oil boom then. It was never going to remain at that price forever.

Float the damn Naira, mk everybody rest. Implement decent fiscal policies, so the negative effects of the float is bearable. Increase wages (you can't ask people to use wage of N150/$1 to buy goods of N450/$1 (or even N350/$1)--that's EVIL). For those that want to say increase wages when to pay current one na war need to understand that even if minimum wage decrease to 5,000; many state governments will still struggle to pay (or is not not state governors that are still diverting Paris Club refunds).

Nigerians are already using parallel market rate. All the things we buy except petrol is based on parallel market rate.

The foremost major fallout from a float, if decent fiscal policies right now is that fuel price will increase (and yes price of goods will marginally increase as a result).

But we need to ask ourselves, where we want mk we take the injection? Because, we go take injection, that one dey certain. Do we want to continue using unsustainable policies that only make speculators and our elite richer at our expense, with depleted reserves; or do we want to end the currency war and focus on building the economy.

Think of it, even with the currency war, the Nigerian economy thanks to our resilient nature is already showing signs of coming out of recession (with virtually no radical new fiscal policy change). What happens when we end the war?
