Well this is my personal compilations based on experience. When I say experience, I mean how real this movies were and what actual veterans of this great war said. As you all know World War 2 is one of, if not the most castastrophic event in human history. It's estimated to have caused the death of 75-90 million people. It was said that 80% of Soviet men born in 1923 didn't survive the war, it officially started in 1939 but it actually started in 1937 when Japan invaded China. So let's begin! Warning!!! Spoiler Alert!!! 5.John Rabe:  I'm sure when Nazis are mentioned some of us picture the likes of maniacs like Hitler, Goebbels, etc. You'll all be surprised that there were good Nazis and John Rabe is one of them. He was a businessman who helped reduce the Japanese atrocities on the Chinese people, he was in Nanking(a former capital of China) when Japan overran the city. It is estimated that Japan massacred up to 300,000 Chinese(I won't be posting pictures because it's quite disturbing). Japan was an ally of Nazi Germany and John Rabe used his membership as a Nazi to help rescue 250,000-300,000 Chinese. There's a scene in the movie when Japanese planes were hovering the city during a bombing campaign, John quickly carried a big Nazi flag and asked the Chinese civilians to hide under, and this prevented the Japs.  It's a must watch, though not entirely accurate, you'll get the required experience! |

4. Pearl Harbor:  On Dec. 7, 1941 one of Japans greatest mistake was to attack America. Strategically, it made sense as this would prevent any interference in their quest to conquer and dominate the Pacific and for the fact the US cutoff their oil supply. In this movie staring Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale and Josh Hartnett. The Japanese sent in Kamikaze pilots who stormed Pearl Habor and began sinking US war vessels. The scenes in the movie were horrifying especially when you think it actually happened. The USS Arizona was bombed with torpedoes and airstrikes which caused it to sink and drown many officers. The movie also portrays what blacks faced in the army. Many weren't allowed to fight but served in kitchen as cooks, maids and stewards. Cuba Gooding Jr. proved his worth when he shot down a Japanese plane. It wasn't entirely historical accurate, but I chose it because you'll get the required experience. |

My best ww2 movies still remain "Saving private Ryan","The Pacific"and "Band of Brothers". Pearl Harbor, The black book, Flag of our fathers, Red tails, Battle of Britain, Letters from Iwo Jima,U-571,etc 1 Like 1 Share |
