There are numerous African stories that haven’t been told and the new crop of African developers wants to challenge how Africa, a continent of 54 countries and over 3000 cultures, is portrayed in the gaming industry.

Game companies such as Kuluya Games, based in Lagos Nigeria, develop games where African players are the key focus and show the everyday life of the average African.

As Africa’s middle class grows and gaming perception changes, the future is certainly bright for game developers. The table below shows the biggest video gaming markets in Africa in 2017, ranked by revenue.

When I saw "video game", my mind went to the traditional game console, control pad/joystick and monitor setup. I had no idea that mobile phone games' revenues were being discussed.

I miss Mortal Kombat III, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Tekken 2 and Samurai Showdown (yes, I'm all for combat games)

I barely play games on my phone, but the number of those who do around me in the bus and other places amazes me to put it mildly.

Well, I've not in anyway contributed to the industry. I don't even have a single game on my phone, I'm a boring turd.

This industry can easily strive in Africa. We have so many cool character of mythical proportions that we can easy weave into gaming plots / stories. I was shock to find that that shan go was a DC comic character already cool.!


Anyhow it will be fun to see games we can relate to easily that teaches our traditions as well.

Thats really cool to know . Didnt know we even had a company that developed games here in Lag...i'm game developer my self, hopefully I make a big break in the market soon, and industry we should tap into. Its really hard not having a team , and funny stuff is thats game development is not so hard.

Are these figures real? I doubt if the gaming industry in Nigeria generates that much. That is almost what nolly wood generates in a year.
