WHATS NEXT AFTER NYSC CAMPING?

Step 1: Report to your Place of Primary Assignment(PPA).
The first thing to do immediately after leaving orientation camp is to report at your place of primary assignment. If peradventure, your PPA is far from your orientation camp, go to the community for the night and settle down and the following morning, go to your PPA.
What you will be taking to your PPA is the posting letter that was given to you on camp after the passing out parade (camp POP) on the last day of the camp.

The essence of taking your letter to your PPA is to determine whether they will accept or reject you. The posting letter is a letter addressed to your employer, and a detachable form is underneath.
Advise: make a photocopy of your posting letter before submitting.
At your PPA, the person in charge of corps member will either accept or reject you.

In the detachable form, the PPA will either write YES or NO and stamp it.
For example, if your PPA is a school, the principal of the school will stamp the detachable part of the form and write YES/NO in the acceptance Column.
If he write YES, that means you can continue your steps further, but if he rejects you, read on how to take a new posting letter when you are rejected

Step 2: Submit your letter of acceptance to your Zonal Office or Local Inspector office as the case maybe: once you are accepted in your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), the form will be detached and you will be given the end part of the form and your PPA will keep the other part, you take the part given to you to the Zonal Office and submit.  Depending on how far your PPA is to the Zonal Office, if it is very far, a local inspector will be attached to your area who will collect the form from you and record it in a register as you bring your slip.

Step 3: Open a Bank Account.
Immediately you bring your acceptance letter and you fill the register, the Local Inspector / the person attending to you at the Zonal Office assign you to a bank. Go to the bank immediately with 3 passport photograph and your NYSC ID Card lest I forget. For the next 1 year, you must always carry your ID card along anywhere you are going to. Your ID card will open doors for you (depending on how you utilize it)

Step 4: Go back to the Zonal office/LI’s office to fill in your bank details.
Do you know why I’ve been patiently listing all this into steps, its because so many corps members are eager to travel back home, so they will just open the bank account and travel home, and will now come back to complain they have not been paid. The reason is because they did not fill the account register before they travel.

So‎ once you are through with your account opening, you will be issued a bank account number, endeavor to take this account number back to the Zonal Office and fill in the account register book. In the account register book, you fill in your account number, bank and your signature. Your signature must be the same as the specimen you gave while on camp.

Step 5: Enjoy your 2 weeks leave (depending on you PPA). Once you have finished steps 1-4 and you are sure, you can now travel, go for a training, read book for the next two weeks depending on your PPA.  If your PPA is a school, most times they are either already on holiday period or about to start. So enjoy the holiday with them. But if your PPA is a private firm, ministry and other parastatals, your leave will be dictated by them, so please adhere to it.
.

I hope you have found this article helpful. Please share to your corper friends as it will help some people to reduce their stress of  settling down after camp.

PotatoSalad:
quick questions. some of these questions are quite embarrassing but...
1. Are we going to be given pillows in camp or just foam lol.
No, definitely not. You can take a pillow along though or improvise when you get to camp by using your bag as pillow. (safer)

2. for people going with mosquito nets, what if you're given up bunk... where do you find tent poles?
Wel, you can negotiate with someone on a down bunk, hustle for a down bunk or try to contact the camp carpenter (there is always a carpenter in every camp, might even be the SAED coordinator for carpentry class, be ready to pay though). But, most camps are fumigated, they wouldn't want to risk the outbreak on malaria in camp where the population is large, so the camp is very well treated, as such you might not bother with the extra load of Mosquito net.

3. i heard that sometime in the past, corpers were given Condoms, does it still work wink?
Yea, they are. There is a group on camp called PET/HIV group which will metamorphose into the PET/HIV CDS group out of group, this group is saddled with the responsibility of educating other corps members about the risk of HIV/AIDs, they get to be certificated though, (so you can look out for this group in camp). So, during their outreach or sensitization, they distribute condoms to fellow corps members. Alternatively, there is a set of people that come to camp to do HIV test, after this you get 2 or 3 condoms.

4. Laundry, how can one manage that without fear of losing ones clothes
Well, you either give your laundry to the laundry washers to help out, your clothes are secured there as they monitor it. Or you just risk it and spread it where others are spreading theirs. Theft is minimal in camp though, especially as regards laundry, just make sure your stuffs are labelled. Write your state code on it.

5. are there barbers in camp?
Yes, there are. At mammy market.

6. dry cleaning. any provision for ironing and dry cleaning in camp?
Yes, they are the laundry washers. You can opt for wash, starch and iron, or just starch and iron or just wash, whichever suits you.

7. is attending churches on Sunday compulsory?
Nah.. There are muslims on camp and people with other belief so it can never be compulsory.

8. if white shirts and shorts is the main dress code, what of time for sports in the evenings?
Same thing, except if you are playing and you will be on your jersey.

9. Money and safeguarding one's phones. what's a good procedure to do especially in the night, doing laundry and taking a bath?
At night, just keep it close. Or put it somewhere you know is safe, several places though, like under the bedsheet, in your bag close to your head and so on. During laundry, well, the phone can be in your pocket or your waist pouch. When taking bath, you can take your waist pouch with u to the toilet, or just put it in your bag, or ask a friend to watch over.. Taking a phone to bathroom is risky, it can fall inside water, can be stolen if you put it at the window. Best bet is to just drop it in your room or put it in your bag.

10. are guys allowed to visit female dorms?
Basically, you are not allowed to enter into their rooms. But you can stay around the hostels. Most camps have male and female hostels close together with no demarcation. You just can't enter the rooms. but can stay outside

11. Safeguarding one's clothing. what's the best way to mark your wears?
With marker, at the collar, waist line, or the tip of the short and socks.
12. can one come to camp a day before the opening? let's say you're from Delta going to serve in Taraba state.
Yes. Most times, camps are opened 2 days before orientation begin.

13. what activities are/are not compulsory?
All are, but some might be relaxed, such as the social night activities. Morning and evening parade is the most important coupled with the lectures.

14. if you're an instrumentalist, can you go to camp with your guitar or piano (to be used
in church etc)?
Not advisable, so many things can go wrong. NCCF do have instruments which you can use.

15. please add other necessary info we need to know.
Well, basically have fun.. don't push it too much.. Camp can be fun if you let it.. Enjoy the morning drills, find a chat partner for the boring lectures or move with clique if guys and enjoy the lecture by gisting. Enjoy the evenings by having fun, enjoy the social gatherings and visit mammy market when chanced but be careful, mammy has a way of sucking you dry. And girls know how to capitalise on that.
Respect the officials (NYSC, Military and other parastatals). Try and belong to something, do something for your platoon to make the camp life enjoyable.
be hopeful for your posting, if any official can assist you, no problem, but don't pay to anyone.

Enjoy yourself bro and have fun. cc: segunk1, chriswazo, rafic and evreyone
