After watching few of Toastmaster International Videos on youtube, my orientation changed, i fell deeply in love with the power of words, the main ideas that has been running tro and fro my mind was to change people's life with the power word.
I believe one can have the right word to change someone lifes but when spoken wrongly, it leaves them chattered and scattered.
PS: I need the proficient writers on nairaland to teach me how to pen down every piece of my ideas that hit the reader where it will help me and how to speak eloquently in public.

You'll always make people listen if it's a topic you are passionate about. Don't just choose any topic, choose those you care about

Being a proficient writer is almost the same as being a good lovemaker.

To some it comes naturally,
To others it is gained with experience,
Then the rest are tutored.

However note that the first two classes of people are always better at it than the last.

Read a lot. Read books in the direction of what you wish to write about the most. If you wanna write on political thoughts, read on political thoughts. If it's science fiction you love, read on that genre and read the best of the best in such fields. Same goes for if you wanna be a good orator, simply search and choose experts in the field you prefer and learn their skills, then from time to time, practice what you've learnt and include your own ingenuity.

I love writing so much that it's what I do at leisure time when others have fun. I wrote a novel, got it to Amazon, iBookstore, and Lulu.com, but nobody knows that my book is in existence. You will have to spend huge money on advertising. That's why you see some works I will actually like to flush down sink making waves once they have what it takes to advertise it.

These steps will be of great help to you in your desire to improve your writing.

1. Read good books in the genre you are interested in to understand the basic structure and rhythm used by established authors whose books you are reading. Also put into consideration your purpose of writing and be passionate about it too!!

2. Learn and perfect how to express your thought through outlining.

3. Write every day. Your writing will improve as you write.

4. Acquire basic editing and proofreading skills.

5. Get feedbacks on your writing by sharing it with people.

You didn't say if it is fiction you want to write or non fiction.

Anyway, read a lot, and watch movies, and watch animal planet, and watch interviews of great authors, and travel a lot, and talk to a lot of people (let them share their life experiences with you), and read different types of blogs and websites, not Just nairaland. Do all these things, and when it is time to write, trust me, you will have a lot write about. Then, write, write, and write some more. Write every day or at least every chance you get, and you will get better with each story/article you write.

It takes passion and commitment to be a fantastic writer!
However, you can master the act if you are determined enough about writing. I've been writing since I was 17, thats becox I was born to write. And then i developed the talent. So its not about reading reading reading. Its more about developing and polishing yourself, and this you can achieve by playing around with words. So start writing. Start practicing! Start learning!

when you are writing for any reason of interest u should be more focused on these aspects...

(1). know your audience.... Here you determine who are the people you intend to exploit
(2). be mindful of the choice of words you use...
(3). make use of the right phrases and language
(4). free your mind and relax .

I see a lot of people here saying read a lot of books. Lmao! So typical!

Yes, read a lot of books but

Write/talk about something you are not interested in and no one will listen
If you're aren't creative, there's no point starting

You have to be able to play with words and involve your readers/viewers. Creativity, that's what catches interest. Technology has made this easy already. There's a reason why it was "international videos" which caught your interest. They've been brought up and taught in schools from an early age on how to present different topics.

Don't be that boring guy, who just keeps rattling down unnecessary vocabularies, which most of the time are just there to prove you know them but are actually irrelevant.

You have less then 2 mins to catch someone's interest. This can be done with pictures, a short clip, a voice. After that throw in rhetorical questions. Know when to use climax and anti climax. Focus on stylistic devices rather than vocabularies. Most books usually lack those kind of creativity but it's what will make you stand out.
