Hey guys! It is my observation that a lot of Nigerians are victims of personal income overtaxation.

How much do you pay as income tax per month? Is your company accountant erroneously overcharging you? Drop your monthly/yearly income separating basic salary from other benefits and I'll tell you what your PAYE should be.

Also, are your taxes being remitted to the relevant tax authority on your behalf? Do you have a TCC to guarantee that? Every tax payer should have a Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC).

Good luck, y'all.

You didn't say if there are other benefits from your employer, like health insurance, NHF, etc so I'll assume only pension for you.

Here goes:

@7.5% pension;
Your taxable income per annum is N1,366,000.
Tax payable/PAYE per annum is N179,540
Tax payable/PAYE per month is N14,962

@8% pension;
Your taxable income per annum is N1,355,200.
Tax payable/PAYE per annum is N177,488.
Tax payable/PAYE per month is N14,791.

Note: the new pension scheme stipulates 10% contribution for employers and 8% for employees. However, some companies still do the old 7.5% pension.

Hello, I discovered my payee was never remitted for a period of 7yrs. Is it possible to take legal action against my employer as I can not request for a tax certificate?

Just post your gross and I'll tell you your payable tax. Let me know of other statutory monthly deductions too like pension.

It's not advisable to take legal action against your employer.

Non-remittance of taxes is punishable by law on conviction. Go to LIRS office, speak to any official who would then direct the appropriate department (within LIRS) to take further action against your employer. A notice of assessment will be served on your employer then, following which an assessment will be carried out. On completion, LIRS will recover its dues and you'll be able to get your TCC
