The way I see it, he's running a business and as long as he makes a margin, no matter how little on the order, he's sold it to me as a middle man.

I think what the original post meant was that he should keep a record of phone models he's sold. Someone doing a trend analysis may one day come along requesting such info to help assess the peculiar dynamics of the market for Xiaomi devices here. Whether the tilt is towards mid-range, low-end or flagship devices etc..
I think it's good for statistics and record keeping purposes.
