Another shining example of why Nigeria badly needs to move to LGA-based (not state) policing, with elected commissioners who are overseen by council-members who are themselves elected. Without policemen being recruited directly by communities who know their characters and backgrounds intimately, and who can fire them at will for malfeasance, there can be no hope of turning Nigeria's policemen from criminals in uniform into upholders of the law. State policing doesn't go far enough to bring accountability to the grassroots, and it offers too strong a temptation to governors to abuse for intimidation, extortion and so forth.
