From your screenshot, tap on Google, select the Gmail account and make sure contact option is ticked

When I clicked on "Contacts" in Gmail settings, it redirected me to Google Play store so as to download a "Contacts" app. Is this a new feature?

Select Google from your screenshot and ensure your Contacts is active as seen in the below. Once that's done, you can manually sync your account by clicking SYNC. The date and time should reflect your real-time to confirm its success.
Go to Settings > System apps > Contacts > Configure contacts lists > select your Google account. That's all.

From ur screen shot, Tap on Google - More - Sync now.
NB: Did u see ur Gmail when u click configure contact list

Not really... He has Oneplus 5T, Blackberry Aurora and Moto E4 plus in his collection. If had seen a good buyer for the OnePlus 5T, he would have sold it. So there is nothing being a midranger here. His own qualms that he must be the lastest user. Him suppose dey sleep for the Chinese factory

I guess you need to download the Google Contacts app.

Honestly I wouldn't know. Check if Google play or the Gmail app is up to date

Then it wouldn't work. Here's your best option if you don't wanna flash Gapps.
Download smart app manager on playstore. Let it search then click backup, after its done click send and choose Gmail. (Make sure you have the gmail app). Itll backup to your mail, enter settings and click weekly reminder so itll update u every week to update your contact database since it doesnt sync.

Try this too, I'm not sure tho. Install the Google drive app and see if there's an option to backup contacts.

Please help me, this morning while browsing my phone network just went off... Till now it's still showing no service.... Have switched it on and off... Have changed and swap the sim. The funniest thing is I was using 2 mtn line... Both sime service disappeared suddenly.... I put the sim in another phone and it was working perfectly. I inserted ot back to my phone but it keeps telling me no service and it do detect the 2 sim. Please help..... What could be the problem and if I wanna fixt it how much will it cost me.. I'm using mi max2 128GB RoM

You said you have switched off your phone and turned it back on? Change network to 2G only, and see. Also try and use sims of other networks on your phone to see what happens.

Boot to safe mode. See if problem persists.

++++if you can't boot to safe mode,use Google++++

Set network to manual, choose MTN.. Doesn't work# move to auto

2. Restore factory settings
(Just settings alone)
