CSTR1003: Some years ago she did say, women in the part of Igboland where she comes from married multiple and lived with husbands at a time. Which led to uproar in Igbo community ( her hometown inclusive). . . What would you make of this? I must tell you, preaching women empowerment, equality and respect is a good thing, but toying with cultures and tradition is a VERY dangerous game. |

phreakabit:Nobody will stop you from attending a Germanic conference. Countries with indigenous languages are trying to sell their culture to foreigners nowadays. We have the Confucius institute in Africa from China . French Africa is basically French in culture and language. It is a means of attracting strength . It is even a good thing in my opinion. The igbo culture is being sold to foreigners and that way its relevance as an African export is ensured . There is nothing wrong if the igbo language and culture is studied in the world best universities just like Spanish or French or Chinese , and these is one of the ways to get that kind of accomplishment. |

MarieSucre: Nahhhh and Never!!!! Not after I've come to understand her aims and objectives about it although most people especially the female do misunderstand the whole idea, which is quite bad n Ill to their spouse hereby making them see the lady as a bad influence while they see or judge from afar. |

phreakabit:Culture is dynamic. There was a time when killing of twins was a sacred culture , it is no longer true. What of the Osu culture? It is becoming a thing of the past. Any culture that is not progressive is discarded for new ones. That has been proven true throughout history. Given how educated and exposed igbo women are compared to other groups of Nigerian women are , we are going to be seeing a lot more chimamandas in the nearest future. 1 Like |

CSTR1003: I do agree with you to some extent, an Igbo conference should be open to "interested" individuals, but it should depend on the context and content of discussions at that event. Some things are better kept in a close knit circle if you ask me. |

CSTR1003: Education of the female specie is always a blessing. But if all the educated Igbo women decide to go HYPER-HARDCORE on feminism, considering how MASCULINE (though very liberal to wives and daughters) Igbo community is. . . I dare say, that is a recipe for a colossal disaster. |

phreakabit:I don't think there is anything discussed there that is not in public domain. It is not an ohanaeze conference. Most of the people there are young igbos in the diaspora looking to connect. Many of them were born there. Harmless. 2 Likes |

CaptainGOOD: You happen to be the dimwitted ape, in this case.... a common minded ape at that. Seems to be happy hour at the zoo, the apes are out in full swing typing. Please tell me why exactly would the whites help Igbos progress when they actually destroyed every form of civilization they came in contact with in Africa? The Igbo pyramids, ancient scribblings and all? You honestly think the west wants to help you become great? As for the emboldened.. Perhaps those were the actions of your pseudo-neanderthal like father and his fathers before him, but where I am from. . . We do nothing of such. You impoverished lowlife imp. |

An Igbo conference and there's no presence of Igbo language or writing anywhere near the venue? And they probably also addressed themselves in English. Igbo conference: Nzukọ ndi Igbo. Creating a unique bridge between the community and academia: Ikepụta njikọ pụrụ iche n'ime obodo na agụma akwụkwọ. Africans need to understand this: when someone give you language, education, religion; you will use it to teach yourself how to enslave yourself forever. We have just about 32 years to re-invent education in Africa or be doomed forever. Indeed, intellectual slavery is the worst legacy of colonialism. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Dollyak:I hit a sore point right? Aside getting married to a man who will feed and clothe you while you breed children, what worthy life goals do you have? I bet you have no answer to that question. Can you now see that you don't deserve to speak when women of substance and achievement such as Chimamanda are concerned? They are busy making the world a better place and expanding women's horizon, and what are you doing? Hoping an asshole with some change comes around to offer you a ring. SMH 1 Like |

Xisnin:Do I need to prove anything to a loser and airhead like yourself online? Go through my post and you might know more about who you are talking to. An artist and activist with the right cause does have it's place but anyone who studies science, excel at it and makes a positive contribution to a society is a demi God. I would leave it at that. You peasant with raar mentality never fail to amuse me sometimes. Now the question is what have you achieve in your miserable life other than being a troll with no future outlook? The fact that you could project my life through a single post shows how stupid you are. Just because you have a gold digger/prostitute as a mum does not mean all others will follow the same line. Your frustration about your miserable life isn't my business peasant. Now humour me about another projection. |

Fuckyoumod:I don't really know what you people think feminism means! Its alarming the way the words feminism/feminist have been so misconstrued and twisted out of shape! Tufiakwa to all dullards out there! |
Re: Chimamanda Adichie At Igbo Conference In London- Pictures by Ranelle(f): 1:40am On May 19, 2018 |
Fuckyoumod:Hunnay it's obvious you don't have access to a dictionary because if you did you would know what the feminist movement is about. Men all over the world have what is known as superiority complex. You guys expect women to be submissive when your are asking for stupid things, you expect women to be loyal when y'all are not you expect them to respect you when you don't offer them the same courtesy, do you know that in th e US a woman earns $0.75 for dollars for every $1 a man earns. Feminism is not about us thinking we're better then men it's about being afforded the same opportunities as men. How many people favor to send their male children to school over their female children. I thank God every day for my parents because the same thing my brother does we do them to and vice versa my brother knows how to cook, wash plates, his clothes clean the house and I wash my car myself change my lightbulbs myself I earny own money. What makes you think being a feminist will stop you from being a good mother or wife I honestly think the best gift a child can have is having a feminist as a mother because the same opportunities she's rallying for her male child she'll rally for her female child. The feminist system rose up because in a world where it is okay for a man to rape his wife even she said no we need women that will refuse to be punching bags to men and will fight for those who are. It pains me when I see men making fun of feminists you cannot judge us because you haven't walked in our shoes you haven't lived in our skin, you haven't lived our lives. In a country such as Nigeria that most of being Africa's giant this backward mentality is sad this is a country where it is okay to be used as a punching bag by a man who swore before God and man to love and protect you, we have become so used to this that police officers that such cases are reported to fail to take action, it is okay to teach a woman that her highest aspiration should be the role of a wife and you should be submissive yet this same country teaches men that's its okay to sleep around until they find the woman they want to settle with, we train boys to be outgoing and bold when he is such he is classified as a strong man but we teach girls to docile and meek and when she speaks out its either she is rude or she is being disrespectful or better still her mother did not train this one well. How do you expect "Africa's giant" to move forward if it will not let go of outdated and archaic school of thoughts. So yes if you're a feminist good for that's the best gift have given yourself. Hunnay no man has the right to treat as less than you are you are a Queen and if you want you can be the motherf*****g King. The sky is your stepping stone if you want the sun sweetie go for it don't let the barbaric ideas stop your shine. |

Pentools:Being a feminist does not mean you don't respect your husband or you can't he in a happy relationship it simplay means that you know your worth you know what you're bringing to the table being a feminist is about the female species being tired of playing runner up to men we want to be treated as equal simple as that. Its not about been disrespectful its about being awarded the same respect and opportunities as the male species. This is a topic I am very passionate about and its obvious that men have gotten so used to women being referred to as the weaker sex that now we want to fight for a seat at the table they're are scared, plain and simple because they know what women are capable of when they set third minds to a goal. We're are tired of being oppressed and now we want a seat at the table you insult us you shame us you paint us with scarlet letters you deem us unfaithful, youve called us man haters, youve called us lesbians, youve called us bitter and husband killers because we are tired of holding you up because we have the effontery to want to be treated as we deserve to be its not going to work you guys have been permanent placeholders at the table and now we want ours and yes you are right to be scared you know why I have never seen anybody put her mind to achieve something the way a woman does so yes get ready we're about to own that damn table you feel you're entitled to because of your gender?. Hell no, this is an era of change things come when we all take a stand and women and men are picking theirs all over the world.Pick wisely. |
