I've suspected this to an extent. I always write it off as "cancer is a small price to pay for development.". Not everyone catches cancer anyway so take it as a population control method. I can risk brain cancer at 45 if it means I spent my teens and early adulthood gaining more knowledge than my peers in the 70s.
