Got my device today thanks to Holuwaxheun, he was very patient with my continuous and persistent questions.
This is my first xiaomi device and I thought I should use this Redmi 5 plus to test the waters.. It's the 4gb Ram 64gb Rom variant and I'm loving it so far.
The package was shipped on 2nd June and arrived Nigeria last week on the 13th of June but I couldn't pick it up then because of the public holidays. I paid #1,200 at the office before collection.

PS: When I powered the device, it showed "device unlocked" briefly before booting, what does that mean please?

The 'unlocked' shows your bootloader is unlocked already, many people will be happy if their bootloader is unlocked already like yours. Abeg wen u dey buy your Mi 8 EE, since this one na testing testing? Welcome o jare.

Same Gsmarena that almost discourage people from getting the Redmi note 4 last year, theirs too over 3 hours to fully charge cheesy. The Redmi note 5 (China/ AI) is same with the Redmi note 5 pro (India) save from the selfie camera and LTE bands. The Redmi 5 plus (China) is same as the Redmi note 5 (India). Most of us buy our phones from AliExpress and other Chinese sites, though some patronise American sites too. If you want to check Gsmarena for specs, be concerned about the Chinese versions because that's what you can lay your hands on. So let me speak in Chinese, the Redmi note 5 has Snapdragon 636 and is easily identified by it's dual rear camera as against the Snapdragon 625 and single rear camera of the Redmi 5 plus.
Modified: You can confirm here, you won't see anybody that has the Redmi note 5 pro ( as you believe probably), who will tell you his/phone came with Android 7.1, it's all Android 8.

Flyme os is lighter than MIUI. Doesn't have many features but just about get it right with what it currently does. You should be pitting the mi a1 against the meizu m6 note, bar the stock Android the meizu m6 note wins for me.

Looks like you bought the Chinese version and the seller unlocked your BL to flash the global rom. Everything is ok. Congrats on your new device.

reason i pit meizu m6s against mi a1 are: 1) option to use stock android navbar as against mback alone on m6note 2) dt exynos soc is bangale 3) na female wan use am and dt m6s dey eye catching..
i jus wan sabi about flyme ram management jare and i bliv dt m6s camera go good cauz meizu mid range fones av nice camera output

I really dunno if the m6s camera is better than the m6 note as them really try for that phone, and the mback button isn't bad once you are used to it (the m6 note also have the navigation button but I disabled it as it looked fat and ugly grin).
