For audio player test run the stock miui music app or the Google play music app before deciding if you need a third party app.

For video, there are various apps. Check mx player pro. Use Google for that.

You only need to unlock bootloader if you want to flash roms other than miui or you want to root your phone.

Create a miui account with email and 2 phone numbers if possible. You'll need a miui account to access themes and fonts
