In the long term a collosal waste of money.

China, India and Germany have already announced that by the year 2030 which is just 11 years away, they would have fully done away with the use of cars which run on fossil fuels.

Indeed, Sheikh Zaki Yamani, a former Saudi oil minister, once said, “The stone age came to an end not for a lack of stones, and the oil age will end, but not for a lack of oil.”

But Nigerians have never been known for long term strategic thinking or planning.

You guys will suffer the consequences of poor leadership very soon.
bros.... After reading your comments, I started crying for Nigerians.

Our leaders killed this country

Further proof that this fulani heathen led government have no plans for Nigeria.
Imagine siting a refinery very far away from the raw materials.

So after factoring in the cost of transportation of raw materials & other miscellaneous expenses, how much will the fuels produced cost?

The only refinery that should be situated in Afonjaland is a skull refinery where skulls are polished before being exported.
Any other refinery is a scam.

I thought you are Lucifer? You should be happy that we won't be able to buy the fuel coming from that refinery.

SMH...

I'm from Asaba, and here is my analysis:

1. This is a private refinery, and it can be placed any damn where the owners choose - whether or not it make business sense is no business of those who are not owners of the business.

2. Rather than subject the refinery and its personnel to constant threat of kidnapping or sabotage, this one is situated in a sane environment. Pipes and pumps at sea will bring the crude to Ibeju-Lekki

3. Transportation (either by sea from Lagos ports to abroad, or by tankers over road is much much easier from Lagos to where the majority of the fuel will be consumed, than from the hinterlands of the Delta area.

4. If you also factor the cost and logistics of all those tankers going into some riverine area, just to move the fuel to the Lagos metropolitan area (where most of the fuel will be consumed), you'll see it makes no sense for this refinery to be outside Lagos.

5. Do you really think the cost of importing and transporting all those materials for building, plus finding and housing all the needed skilled labour, plus moving all that cement... you think it would be cheaper in Lagos or in Delta?

Having said that, a government that is serious about national development would develop the needed infrastructure and ports to help make this private refinery viable. Most SS state governors have chosen to develop Lagos and London at the expense of their homes, and the indigenes of those states have nobody but themselves to blame for not demanding better.

And the remaining several hundred countries nko? We know just Nigeria alone can consume all the fuel produced by this refinery, and we have no plans to stop using cars that run on petrol.

You nailed it well.. He sighted his refinery in a place that allows both sea and land access.. If Nigeria likes, they can sell him crude or he can import easily.. Security is also guaranteed cuz the boys around there wants development for their people rather than acting a showstopper.

no... It is no waste. The fuel cars used abroad will be sent to Africa. It means cheaper cars available. Even if gateman will be able to afford a car. Dangote's refinery will refine crude for those cars. Besides, it serves as fertilizer and petro chemical

LuciferAnnointed. I love that name.

Dangote is smarter than you give him credit for. He has secured an export terminal for his future generation, and will not depend on Nigeria crude. With that terminal, he can import crude from just any terminal, ship his sugar and etc out of the country and can even bring in Gods-know-what as a private jetty owner.

Extend my regards, to Lucifer, tell him I said Hello.

Your education is not a waste.I guess Dangote is targeting fertilizer cos fossil oil has no future.

Fossil oil has no future? I don't know what future means 10/20 years? I doubt it. 30/50 years? maybe.

I am not at all an expert but what's the proportion of EVs to total Cars in the world over the last 10 years? How many people currently own just EVs? how viable is the most cost effective long-range EVs over it's life cycle?

Is the Issue of range anxiety still prevalent among EVs?

In gas for instance what's the gas use penetration rate in Nigeria? How is the Huge demand for energy/power from EVs use going to be filled sustainably (greenly)?

Are there other potentially useful applications for fossil fuel derivatives not currently obvious ?

When the cost of fossil fuel drops, without government interventions/taxes, would it become more cost effective to to generate Power from fossil fuels?

Again I don't know the answer(s) to these but I have the feeling these would shape the economic viability of the 'greener' alternatives.
At the end of the day, it looks like economics is usually right.

In the next 50 years, fossil fuels would still be very very relevant the world over. And even long before then, Dangote would have recouped his investment and made massive profits.

There is absolutely nothing faulty with the strategic planning of building a refinery in Nigeria; infact, the only error in strategic reasoning is for a country like Nigeria not having a single functional refinery.
