These are the things that happen mostly third world nations!this can rarely happen in the US or the UK,Germany and even China and other developed worlds....you can only see this happening in The US in a fast and furious or Mission impossible movies.....! I think the major reason this keeps happening is coz the idiots who cause these mishaps and fatal accidents mostly get away with or sometimes there is a very light punishment considering the crime....if for instance the idiots who killed over 8 people knows he would be getting a life imprisonment or at least 80 years in jail without parole he would be responsible with his wheels and would always make sure his automobiles are road worthy!i would only recommend a lesser punishment if it’s not as a result of the drivers recklessness then if it’s the killer should be getting at least 35 years for taking a single soul!for this idiots case a death sentence won’t be too harsh self!

So it is ONLY IN LAGOS that Container falls and people die?
Some of you and your in-born hatred, ehn!
I am sure you are from that place where hatred of others is genetic.

What will it take a government that truly cares for its people to structure the movement of these trailers?

When will this end bikonu. Sometime last year a fully loaded container fell on a keke beside my office. The rest they say is history for all occupants of the tricycle, including a woman and her baby. The baby was so crushed that if not for a piece of cloth you wouldnt know thats a human being. It took over 2hrs for a crane to finally arrive the scene. People watched them die. The scene still haunt me till today. I ask again When will this end bikonu? It's not enough to say RIP. Nigerians what can we do to prevent a future occurence?

There was a time Nigeria had a vibrant guy who headed road safety. Have forgotten his name.
He put So much restrictions and rules out there for these trucks of doom and actually deal with defaulters but as usual, good things don't last long in Nigeria.

Most of them are from the north that don't know an iota about safety. When accidents like this happen, their alhaji boss will just make a call and that will be the end. Ask dantata drivers.

What a country

last time i visited that hell hole was in 2012! afterwards, i vowed to myself that i must get my foreign citizenship because there is no way in hell i want to come back to this hell hole! leaving nigeria in 2000 was the best decision i made in my life, even at such an early age, i knew life in nigeria was not normal for human beings that had self dignity and worth!!! both the rich and poor live like animals!!!! just that the wealthy can withdraw to a relatively sane environment which is the comfort of their homes, however the poor does not have such luxury!! nigeria is not a country, it is just a gathering of mostly r3tarded wanna be humans with an animalistic culture and way of live!

It was really a terrible scene yesterday 8:00pm. I drove few minutes after the accident. From reliable source, the container lost the brake control. I had wished I had the super power to lift the container off the Ubi bus as there were people calling for rescue in the UBI bus after the accident

I passed the accident scene this morning. It was really terrible.
Same here but unfortunately those vehicles involved has not been evacuated from the express road & caused heavy traffic jam on the express road. I passed the spot around 10am

I'm not sure death toll don't exceed 8 as reported looking at the conditions of vehicles involved. The car crushed by on coming trailer, whoever sit at the back sit will be dead & if alive it will take the grace of God for such to survive. Those white bus involved is complete write off

Lizzysamuel:
Eight persons died while 12 others were injured in an accident involving seven vehicles late night on Wednesday around Danco and Berger axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Agency, Tunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the crash, said it involved three trucks and four cars. He said the tragedy happened due to speeding.

He said the container of the hook of the truck fell on two buses, while other vehicles rammed into one another.

“From investigations, it was learnt that the unfortunate fatal crash was caused by the overspeeding, reckless driving and loss of control on the part of one of vehicles involved which led to a container falling off from its hook on two buses and other vehicles ramming into each other in the process, in an attempt to escape from the scene,” he said.

He gave details of the vehicles as include: LSR 560 XJ, Toyota bus white; XD 792 EZA Masda bus; ABC 512 ZV, Ash, Toyota Sienna; APP 196 RQ gold, Toyota Camry; DED 776 XA red, Iveco Tipper; APP 248 XT white, Daf Tipper and LND 04 XX.

Mr Akinbiyi also said the corpses and five of the injured victims were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) while seven injured victims taken to FAMOBIS Hospital Lotto.

“The crash scene has been cordoned off, on the inbound lane of the expressway. The motoring public are advised to drive cautiously along the diversion route created by Julius Berger and avoid speeding beyond 50kmph on the stretch,” he said.

this is not what actually happened. The truck that fell on these buses was actually trying to avoid another truck trying to find its way into the express. It was raining, the ground was slippery, the view was not really clear. Fine I agree over speeding made it worse.
I was there but I could not take pictures cos it was gory

Is it not a shame that in Nigeria horrible and embarrassing avoidable accident lime this still happened

What can we get right in this country as a nation The damn road safety officials who primarily their is to ensure safety driving has dugressed to bribe taken, focus now on irrelevant traffic stuffs to the point of seeking to carrying guns.

The police are useless. VIO are idiots. All roads death trap. Govt fill with fake projects. Pls is this country cursed??.

It is all about that MONSTER called CORRUPTION.

VIO collects bribe and look the other way
Police sees the Container-laden truck and how dangerous it is but as long as the driver can part with Naira note, they just wave it on
FRSC, LASTMA and the rest of them are only after Private car owners they know can cough out money.

I have seen and driven beside container-carrying-Trucks in other countries and l counted TWELVE lockdowns on each side, for the 40ft container such that even if that Truck summersaults, that Container will remian attached to it but our own in Nigeria just balance the Container on the truckbed such that even it if climbs a small stone on the ground and shakes, gbam! Container fall on you!!

Our roads are also terribly bad and that is a common denominator for roads in the Southern part of Nigeria!
That nepotistic Buhari and his Fulani cabals have repaired almost all roads up North, even when there are less viability to use them (Herdsmen, kidnapping and Boko haram).
