GT- ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
I was interviewed ON the 2nd.
"Young man, you look like a footballer" was the first statement from one of the panelists. As if he was waiting to hear me say yes, he continued; your country was defeated by Algeria. With a smile on my face, I replied; our team was defeated. That led to further conversation after which I was asked to settle down for the real interview... LOL.
Who is.... my full name... ? After giving them a very brief answer, I was asked about the Nigerian Electricity structure and where/why we are facing challanges and how to fix these problems. The next question was on safety: your CV shows that you are always on the field. Are there some safety measures you usually observe? They even helped me as I tried to talk about some of these safety measures. Your CV says u are hardworking, what does it mean to be hardworking? I made reference to some volunteer jobs I did in order to achieve my goals. I was then asked to talk briefly on any formal report I've done and finally, to tell them why I wanted to work with the NNPC.
Deep inside I know I didn't perform the way I would on a very good day. But grace makes me very optimistic. AUGUST IS COMING

The first question I was asked after the chief panelist interrupted my introduction was

"What is Mosquito Control"?

That question shook me.

I didn't know what my concern with Mosquito is or should be. I got jittery but managed to answer in my own way.

How many of us were asked about Mosquito?

Me, Panel 39

I was among the millions who successfully submitted application when the portal was first opened. Luckily, I was among the 60k invited for the test. As a nairaland indigen, I quickly find and joined the trend to gather all necessary info. Just as I did when I was seeking admission into the University, when I wanted to go for NYSC and almost everything I want to do that needed interactions.. Thanks to those who shared multitudes of past questions and answers here.

I read everything like never before and funny enough, I went to the exam center with GMAT 2007. My test was scheduled at 10am, and I got to the center before 8am. I had enough time to go through the GMAT while in my car till 10am. Unfortunately, nothing like GMAT came out in the test. I was pissed off when the simple and compound interest questions I was so sure of had no correct answers. I had to choose the nearest answers.

When did Nig joined OPEC, I wrongly chose 1972, the guy beside me who had made several effort to cheat, saw my answer and corrected me. He seemed to be so sure about it. So I reluctantly changed my answer to 1971. He later asked for 4 answers in place of the one he told me. As an Accounting student, I was familiar with all the history and the Mathematics questions, so I did my best and left the exam hall.

My Interview Experience

It was the best interview I ever had. Even though I used days to study NNPC and its subsidiaries, my prayer point was for the panel to only ask me questions I know best and can remember.

I was interviewed by panel 8 on July 2nd. After the panel chairman offered me a seat, one of the panel members immediately asked for the meaning of my name and I replied Goodluck. Mine is an Islamic name... they are all Christians (according to their names). So I understand why he asked. My interview questions were four or five questions on accounting ( I knew everything like every accounting graduate would do.).

Followed by a two questions about my consultancy firm. Why did I registered a company with such a funny name? What motivated us to do such a great job and what are the challenges we face and how we solved them.

One safety question, then they asked me to share an experience about my trying time with them. I did, and I also asked them a question which the chairman answered.

I asked if we will learn on the job or there is any training school for Accounting and management GT. Then they wished me a safe trip back home.

I NEVER RECEIVE ALERT ( I de expect ham since sha)... Its been prayer session ever since then, not only me oooOOoo. The whole family and village people are supporting me.

Everyday, my Mum will call from the village to ask if they've called me? The answer is No. She will say, Insha Allah, you will be among the successful ones. We are praying on it....

All the best to everyone.

Yup. Panel 39 actually stopped me from rushing to answer immediately. After each question, I was given about 2 minutes to think about my answer.
k2039:

No it doesn't.

I asked my panel for feedback (more like what I didn't do right in the interview)

They listed some of the things they were looking for.

One of them was your ability to take your time to think when a question seems to jar you. It's not about rushing to say rubbish.

So in my feedback, one of the panelist actually commended me for taking my time to think (the question took me about 2 minutes to come up with an answer).

So you don't need to be worried

Interviewed on the 6th, 12pm.
I can't fuckn remember my panel, never noticed there was any panel nos doh.

They intro emselves when i entered, i was asked to sit before that doh.
The Chief Panelist asked me to Introduce myself, part of my intro was that, i had a brief stint with the Lagos State Safety Commission & then currently working with Lagos State blablabla, So he said, having worked with lagos state safety commission before, now Give me (5) safety tips you would advice a worker in a workplace. I could only mutter (4), without making a fuss about it, told him, I'll stop at the (4).
A woman, an hajia, asked me, if i have ever had a disagreement with my boss before, i said yes and then i find one Zobo give em, she vehemently asked after my narration, that, In all my story, i sha had a disagreement with my boss, i affirmed YES and then she scribbled something on her note.
One other man, asked me what cracking blablablabla is, this was my response "not that i didn't do it in chemistry, but right now, i can't remember, not to keep other candidates waiting long, I'll pass, that said, i am open to knowledge, so you could help me sir" one of the ogas nodded and told the Man(who asked me d qst) to help out, the Nigerianess in him kicked in by saying "No oooo oga, why i go tell am"
The next panelist, asked if i have ever been stressed, I said Yes, and then i gave him another Zobo.
The man, who asked me the cracking & fractional distillation qst, later asked me "what are the impacts of petroleum on the environment", gave him answers to the best of my knowledge..

I was asked, if i had a qst to ask em.
this was exactly my qst "God willing i was choosen, going forward, in the next 5 yrs, what would you expect to have been my accomplishment", The man explained what i already knew, i.e The GT program blablablabla

I was told, the interview had officially ended, it was then, my CV & documents were checked & retained, the man congratulated me on my 1st Class.
and then i take my leave.

I studied Envtl. Health @ HND & Envtl. Mgt & Toxicology @BSc., if you're wondering what course i was biased in.

On the CBT
The qsts i encountered, i wouldn't have had difficulties with em, even when i was in JSS3, it was later that i realize that, the qsts were random, some peoples face were grim & i be like, i didn't even use a calculator or do any workings, i guess pure luck, those who said simple qsts are usually the tricky one's, are not outrightly wrong, the tricky part comes from being overjoyed, as always, the moment you're overjoyed, you're over blind too, which implies, you're prone to simple oversights, until you come out & realize, you've fumbled for real.
wrote in Unilag.

On the alert...
I received alert first, the lady that interviewed before me too, have received, we both came from Lagos.
Whatever decision comes final from the mgt of NNPC, its alright be me, people like me, presently dey comfortable, i just want to be more, should NNPC fail to yield, their loss, I have my sight on several scholarships (full or partial) & heck, there are countries where Edu. is cheap (Austria, Germany, Italy), I have had previous offers from those countries.
I know plenty here, are comfortable too either working privately or for the Govt., We just have to hold our heads high & remain focus. funniest, na play play, I take apply ooo, heck, i was even reluctant to go write the CBT sef, hence why i was the last 9am that appeared that day.
Problem here, is that, most folk's here suffer from different complexes, the intimidated one's, the subjugated, the success infuriated one's etc, heck one guy even said as far as Jarus & Mosgoon never collect alert, his conviction of Non-Alertees are favored remains Olivine and I was wondering what will be his position, if Jarus & Mosgoon come out to say, that they've received alert. lolsss...

Like one of my Big Bro who left NNPC for AIRTEL will say, Na Alubarika matter, in his word's, He knew, several folks working in NNPC, whose lives were miserable, they live in peasant luxury.

The thread have been fun, i had LMAO several times.

I wish everyone success fellaz.
We interviewed on the same day and all our questions were the same with the exception of the Safety Questions. The Chief panelist stood up at the end and requested if he could shake me. That panel of yours must be panel 33 too.

Please was anyone interviewed for Maritime operations, what was your experience like? I was really expecting questions from my field or CV. Non from these. Rather they asked marketing questions like 7 Ps of marketing, role of marketing in NNPC's ops, how I would enhance NNPC's market share. I almost told d guy my course wasn't corely commercial. By 2nd and 3rd level, I was still doing operations research and shipboard automation/control , what's with the marketing questions? I had to keep my cool and silently ask for grace.Perhaps there wasn't anyone from d field on the panel. I answered the questions though and tried to compensate for any lapses with my responses in d safety question and SJTs.

Asked if I had a question at the end. Discussions on my question lasted longer than the time for all my responses to their questions.

But please i want to know if there were other maritime management/operations or marine transport candidates and how you fared
.

Same thing here. I think it's the same panel because they interviewed me and two other guys (marine transport and something economics). I studied Fisheries and Aquaculture.
After being asked to introduce myself in 2 minutes, the next questions were from marketing (Define marketing in your terms, List 7 Ps of marketing and how's marketing related to NNPC operations). Then came the situational, behavioural and HSE questions. I don't know why they never asked me anything in my field or what I can offer to NNPC..
In all, God's grace will speak for us..
PS: Did you take note of the Panel no?

smiley smileyWow! I came online tonight and was pleased to see that there were no BP-oscillating theories. I guess the photo I shared earlier probably inspired us to worry not.

With your permission, your potential NNPC GT Geologist would love to share his own experience. wink (Read & be inspired)

N/B Watch Out for the theme Honesty & Trust in God oya here we go wink

I think I was one of last persons to apply on the portal because that 'passport upload' really stressed me until a faithful day when my edited selfie was successfully uploaded and hit 'Apply.

I studied Dragnet plus nnpc study pack and was tired especially when I heard the number of candidates who applied sad . It became worse when I was 'cramin' current affairs. I prayed to God to take away spirit of error during the test and so it was that after answering question 60, i went thru again backwards and corrected about 15qstns I initially thought I got correctly. smiley

Interview Day
Outspoken guy like me found myself so tensed up inside, calm outwardly but shaking inside. I read a scripture that morning (Luk.12:12) and believed it. (Do not worry about what to say , for in that Hour , the Holy spirit will teach you what to say).

Interview: 8th, Room 25, Panel 22 10th floor.

I was the first on the list and the other colleagues were mostly engineers. While we settled down on the seat in front of the room, our usher had gone in to submit our files...I could feel the panel drilling a guy sad I became tensed again lol. Ffw

The panel secretary came out to ease our tensions while the guy who was being drilled was sweating and preparing to leave. After Her briefing, she beckoned on me to follow her inside (as first man undecided lipsrsealed).

Then I met what I would describe as the best panel anyone would have prayed to meet with. smiley 5 Senior men( 2yorubas, 1Northern, 1Ijaw & 1Igbo(chairmo) , the sec.was the only female (Yoruba). The chairman asked me to drop my files and unbutton my suit jacket to ease off all tensions. I did that smiling.

They introduced themselves and asked that I do same. While I was at it, the Chairman & a few others probed to know my part of Abia state.. teased me, 'yabbed' me, we laughed for a while..and then He asked the Geologist to pause while the safety start with me.

*What is an unsafe act. (I answered).
Mention 5(strictly 5) unsafe acts on the highway. (I mentioned 3, they waited...I mentioned 2 more (In my mind: so una no fit forget the 2 for me? cry grin)

*Geology. What is Migration( I answered). Mention the types of Migration (I answered and defined them).

Why do reservoir rocks hold HC? (Me: smileydue to their good porosity & perm. Chairman & Geologist: yeah we know...but...(I payed attention to their body languages) then I said due to The presence of Traps... everyone was happy in the room, including the sec. smiley)

*Personals.
Tell us a time when you had a set back in life.(I thought hard and answered)

*Tell us of a time when you managed a situation under pressure. (Wait for it!)

Me: I described a situation Where I led a team to rep ma department/sch in a competition at Ilorin under a short notice. We stayed up all night to study & rehearse for the presentation. Then I quickly added: We didn't win the competition but we were happy we did well & our lecturers were proud of us.

The Humbling part: The Geologist said to me, "You're correct. Do you know I was present there at Ilorin (2016). Me shocked shocked shocked "what if I had lied that my team won".

Ffw: I got a chance to ask a question. I asked what NNPC was doing to cut down CO2 emissions during E&P. The northern panelist explained in details.

The Panel Chairman teased me further, bout my people, their doings...we laughed for a while more. Then I was free to go.

The sec. gave me my phone and smiled at me. I left the room knowing God was truly on my matter.

I'd be delighted to connect with lots of you guys come September . Cheers.

My CBT experience - 8am time.
The crowd was discouraging over here in Kaduna. But I moved on, joined the queue, and took my place in the hall. In 30 minutes, I was done except for the mathematics questions which I had to settle down to redo. I tried to ‘giraffe’, only to find out that my neighbour’s questions were not just rearranged, but the options were interchanged as well. shocked That was when I knew this NNPC and Jamb people meant business. Well, I did my best, and my lucky guess on the question on the date of Nigerian Civil War paid off. When I was done, I waited till the last second before clicking submit; they don’t award prize for ‘first to finish’. After leaving the hall, some questions I know I failed are as follows: how many Nigerian protectorates in 1914(I chose 3 instead of 2), activities of petroleum upstream and down stream sectors(I ‘banged’ that as well), and other funny verbal(interpretation) questions. But I think I was good to get 50 out of the 60 questions correctly.

My Interview Experience, 2nd July.
The 4 of us called out from the amphitheater were all in the same field and from Kaduna also. By the way, I’m in the medical sector. My interview was the shortest when compared to those that went before me. When it was my turn, I was ushered into the room. I asked, ‘can I sit?’ They gave me the go-ahead. Then I sat majestically. Even though I’m an EH applicant, my CV, being very concise and compressed, was 2 pages, printed on front and back of one leaf, with my references even taking half of the 2nd page. I can imagine the expression on their faces when just a sheet of paper was shared to each of them before I entered. wink. I didn’t have time to redo another CV. My thinking is ‘who go get job go get job’. After introducing themselves, the centre man asked, ‘We’ve gone through your CV, so tell us about yourself’. As a smooth talker, I introduced myself, and then I talked about my education and work experience. That was the only part of the interview that was smooth. Thereafter, the first question was related to my field, which I tried my best to answer, but the lady who asked the question added to my answer, and I nodded in approval. The other parts of the interview were bloody. In fact, I lost 3 pints of blood after their questioning. I never expected ‘Give me 4 advantages of renewable energy’ as a question, me being able to give only two. I can’t say if me telling them, that the 2 advantages I had mentioned were the only points I could remember, helped my course. My answer to questions on work hazards were not wholly accepted. Even my answer to a question on how I ‘handled a misunderstanding with my boss in the past’ didn’t seem to impress them probably because my answers were quite short and straight to the point. It was as if they wanted me to be a story teller. But I wasn’t going to budge or else I spewed rubbish. The centre man looked at me, and he said, ‘Sorry for keeping you till this time[the interview held 5 hours later than scheduled time]. Do you have any question?’ I replied ‘no’, and I thanked them. Now I wished I had asked them a question in a bid to impress them more than I did, if at all questions can add to one’s performance. I walked out in a somber mood, but all I know is that many factors come into play during such recruitments: factors like my CBT scores, my dressing, my confidence and composure, my state of origin my discipline, et cetera. So, I ain’t losing hope until there is nothing else left to hope on.

It was as if they wanted me to be a story teller. But I wasn’t budging. The centre man looked at me, and he said, ‘sorry for keeping you till this late[the interview held 5 hours later than scheduled time]. Do you have any question?’ I replied ‘no’, and I thanked them. I walked out in a somber mood, but all I know is that many factors come into play during such recruitments : factors like my CBT scores, my dressing, my confidence and composure, my state of Origin, etc. So, I ain’t losing hope until there is nothing left to hope on.

For posterity purpose, I will indeed like to join my fellows in sharing my NNPC CBT and interview experience.
It was indeed a great experience, firstly when I saw history listed as one of the courses required for GT application, I was much elated. The CBT was a technical one, I was the first to finish @my whole centre (Ui dlc centre). God's grace, I got the oral interview invite.
I could remember how I was amazed at the NNPC structure and how I fell in love at first sight. I interviewed on 5th July, Panel 28.
I could remember a guy that studied English while waiting for interview, he asked one of the ushers for a cup of water, specifically a warm/hot water, with the claim of his need to make his voice more audible and confident. grin grin grin, baba drink water finish, na so him voice enter lowkey....tension don carry am commot...(if you're reading this, I miss your expression).
So, I requested to sit
1 first question was asked by the chief panelist, a Yoruba man. He asked for the exact time I arrived for interview and what was I thinking while waiting at the quadrangle.
2. After that, he introduced the panelists and the first asked me to list just 5 challenges or success of NNPC, I asked as a historian we focus on both and if I could list some challenges and success, and they happily agreed. Listed 2 challenges and 3 success. Making 5.
3. Was asked a situational question on how I handled not meeting a particular deadline, got a positive vibe from them after answering
4. Was asked on how I solved a problem creatively, got a mini positive vibe
5. Was asked a discipline related question on Paleontology, paleontologist and paleology, they wanted to distort my thinking but I dealt nicely with the situation.. And lastly safety measures to adopt while fixing a bulb.
6. After all these, we started discussing on the role of history and it's relevance to NNPC, this part was really fun and we cracked jokes and all.
7. Was asked to ask a question, and I asked about their top competitors.
Funniest part was, I was interviewed immediately after a friend we studied at the same department, finished with the same grade, from the same state but different local government.
I pray to God for grace oooo.......I will quote this post to give thanks on receiving my APL with my fellow local men and women very soon!. God's grace!
Signed
Zonal secretary, Local men committee for NNPC

The CBT didn't seem easy to me. Lots of history and ICT questions. I struggled a bit.
I remember coming out of the hall and quickly bringing out my phone to browse answers to some of the questions I had tucked in my memory. Of the 6 questions I checked, I only got one correctly. That's the UN sec gen question.
Others like when Abuja became FCT, when Naira became the official currency, which continent Seychelles is in... I had selected wrong answers.
The invitation for interview, demonstrated HIS specific involvement.
The interview was so smooth, it felt surreal.
6 panelists. They asked me to name 4 courses I studied to earn my B.sc degree.
Was asked my project topic, they found the topic interesting and asked me to elaborate on my findings.
One of the panelists cut in and agreed with my findings, then related it with a funny experience he had and there was a lighter mood.
Situational questions of how I met a deadline, and how I creatively solved a problem were asked.
I was told to give two effects of the oil and gas sector to the economy. There was a good delay with the panelist scribbling, then one of the men beckoned on his colleague who went ahead to ask the safety question of changing a light bulb.
I look forward to a successful conclusion of the whole process by His Grace.
Cheers.

You had your interview on the 5th? Panelists were 2 women and 2 men... With one easterner (fair in complexion)as the Panel Secretary...which made them 5...the 2nd woman was the chief panelist

I was asked exactly the same questions too

*) tell us in 2 minutes about yourself.
1) tell us a concept in civil engineering related to the oil and gas industry?
2) what will you do to protect yourself if there is a fire emergency?
3) what challenge have you faced in your civil engineering profession and how did you overcome it?
4) you are presently an entrepreneur, what was your biggest challenge operating your farm and how did you overcome it?
5) You are passionate about agriculture, how will you combine it if given this job?
5) do you have a question or comment? Gave a comment and then wanted asking a question, they smiled and said you can't do both.
Thanked them and left.

Civil engineering graduate, GT. 10th July.

In all. I think I did well. There's room for improvement.
