Apparently this have been used successfully to detect malaria Cus of the distinct odour in the sweat of malaria patients.

If covid 19 has its own distinct odour and how positive the test results will be is something huge the research will have to look into.

There's a search bar at the top of the page. It will give you all matches from not just the thread, but from Nairaland as a whole.

Applied biomedical science comes with work experience, the normal one doesn’t

Bioinformatics is a different field from biomedical sciences. It’s more with analysing molecular data. So it’s closer to molecular biology/genetics

Okay thanks. So which field has better job opportunities? because we can see bioinformatics with placements (which we think will give the work experience bit)...I am just not sure which has better prospects for getting a job after school?

There are more jobs in Biomedical Sciences. A Biomedical Scientist can work in:
- Histology
- Haematology
- Virology
- Microbiology
- Biochemistry
- Molecular Biology

Bioinformatics is restricted to molecular genetics only

why would you think 50% , Did you read that anywhere .................I am just wondering curious.

justwise:
Part 4 is here
4. School fees + maintenance money

(a) £1,265 (x 9months) per month for living costs if you are studying in inner London for the majority of your study (more than 50% of your study time)

(b) £1,015 (x 9months) per month for living costs if you are studying in outer London or anywhere else in the UK, for the majority of your study (more than 50% of your study time)

The money should be kept in your account for 28days weekends included (school fees + maintenance money) ending no more than
31 days before your application.

PGCE is for someone with degree certificate but without teaching experience to be qualified as a Teacher with QTS in UK.

With all the information you have already given, I am sure he met all the requirements to be a Teacher here and it will be a great investment.

You can confirm from Justwise if international students are eligible for Tier 4 visa to study PGCE because I am not too sure of it.

Better still, Please look for another school with cheaper tuition fees for him to do MSc either in his Mathematics discipline ( To be a master of his discipline) or Management courses ( it's a requirement and fast route to taking leadership position within the school).

The masters will help in getting tier 4 student visa and he will manage the rest after coming over.

Please assist to confirm whether PGCE students are eligible for tier4 visa. Thanks in advance.
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by mimilyrics: 7:26pm On May 18, 2020
If via the PGCE University-led route, yes, you can be eligible for a tier 4 visa.

If via the School Direct Tuition Fee route, no.

If via the School Direct Salaried route, you should contact the school you want to apply to. You will need to already have a visa that allows you to work in the UK since you'll be required to be employed as an unqualified teacher within a school for the duration of the course.

Note that you'll need to discuss/explore your options with your intended sponsor if in doubt.

Hi,
I will start by saying experiences differ but I had a great time in Coventry. There's a good blend of Nigerians and other Africans there,so it's easy to adapt when you meet them. Accommodation outside school is cheaper than the ones owned by the Uni.there are lots of menial jobs around, you can easily get jobs in stores at the city center, carehomes or warehouses.
My advice is to target the student ambassador jobs with the University, they pay minimum wage and it's a job you can put on your CV and possibly get reference. The city is easy to navigate and live in, Birmingham is close-by for a night out if you want too. Are you starting online with them?

Remember, one year is too short, if you have other plans explore immediately you settle in.

All the best

Forgot to add.. If you have leadership skills and want to make a difference.. The student union is a good place to get involved and if you run and win in any key position it may buy you one year extra as a sabbatical officer

Just an extra.....

Maybe you should try using other browser (on a laptop or desktop) instead of google. That was what i did in order for me to be able to apply, upload documents, and submit. I used Microsoft Edge browser.

I bought your idea of MSc in Mathematics but d tuition in the neighborhood of GBP20K is too high for my budget of about 10 to 13K. I also considered management as u suggested but tuition is still on high side for d ones I saw. Though I just fall in love with MSc Energy and Environmental Management (with Advanced Practice in Teeside university) with d following reason 1. tuition is 7500 per year for 2 years which appears flexible to me. 2. Environmental Specialist is in UK shortage occupation which is another advantage. My challenge now is after doing this course and still pursue QTS through the other route as advised, will the MSC in Energy and Environmental management still be of advantage(as management course) for him to climb the leadership position in teaching.

I am sorry to ask this question. Why do you want your brother to get QTS in England instead of GTCS in scotland ?
At the bolded, Yes it is another opportunity for him and may be an added advantage when applying for college teaching job.
Some tuition fees are low within that budget so he should be able to get admission easily here.

QTS is the qualification to teach in England while GTCS is the qualification required in Scotland.

Its easier in scotland within 2 months for Overseas Trained Teachers (OTT) because assessment is based on all your teaching qualifications and minimum 2 years teaching experience in your country, after which you get your licence to teach as a qualified teacher
Whereas , for QTS in England, Since 2001, there has been a rule that Overseas Trained Teachers (OTT) could only teach here for four calendar years. People in training at the end of their four years: From 1 September 2008, OTTs who have not obtained QTS within four years will not be allowed to continue teaching beyond four years even if they are undertaking employment based training leading to QTS. Please refer to the following advice issued by DfE - ADVICE ON OTT.
