It means that a student can work as a full-time officer elected by the members of his/her school's students union for a year after his/her course ends. Student status is maintained during this period; you might need to get an extension to your Tier 4 visa, your school will provide documentation to aid this.

Students who have applied to study at universities this autumn must be told whether they will be taught online before they accept offers, the watchdog has said.

The Office for Students insisted that institutions give applicants “absolute clarity” over how their degrees will be delivered and warned bosses not to give false hopes of a “campus experience” this September.

Campuses have been shut since March and many students have been taught online since, with most not expected to reopen until September at the earliest.

Sixth formers, whose exams have been cancelled this summer, are already facing uncertainty over student halls contracts and a scramble for places amid a cap on university admissions this year.

The OfS wants A-level pupils to be told what to expect before the June deadline for accepting offers and “certainly before” the clearing window in August following results day, and to be released from offers if universities change their plans.

Nicola Dandridge, OfS chief executive, told MPs on Monday: “What we’re requiring is that universities are as clear as they can be to students so that when they accept an offer from universities, they know what they’re getting.”

She suggested “blended learning” could be introduced that combines face-to-face teaching with online classes and cautioned against “bunging lectures online”.

The University of Manchester became the first UK institution last week to announce all lectures in the autumn term will be delivered digitally.

Michelle Donelan, the universities minister, has said institutions can charge the full £9,250 tuition fees as long as online classes are of “quality”.

Hi Eromo,
Again experiences differ,Cranfield University basically runs postgraduate(taught masters, masters research and PhD) for now, heard there are plans for undergraduate. it is country side meaning you won't see high rising buildings as much(just 2 or so) .. I was told it used to be a former military base back in the days.. Slightly more expensive in terms of fees but totally worth it. It's cheaper to live in neighborhouring towns like Bedford or Milton Keynes or even Cranfield Village. The location doesn't really create alot of job opportunities for students in the University itself but you can get part time jobs in neighbouring towns and shuttle between.
I must say Cranfield has a lot of links with industries ,so many companies have projects running in the school meaning you have access to R&Ds and that's seems like one step into the door for a tier 2company.For example my PhD had 3water utilities sponsoring it.
Attend as many events as you can, use the alumni as a reference...explore as much as you can..

That's my 2pence information

I really appreciate. Thank you so much for this priceless information.

QTS is the qualification to teach in England while GTCS is the qualification required in Scotland.

Its easier in scotland within 2 months for Overseas Trained Teachers (OTT) because assessment is based on all your teaching qualifications and minimum 2 years teaching experience in your country, after which you get your licence to teach as a qualified teacher
Whereas , for QTS in England, Since 2001, there has been a rule that Overseas Trained Teachers (OTT) could only teach here for four calendar years. People in training at the end of their four years: From 1 September 2008, OTTs who have not obtained QTS within four years will not be allowed to continue teaching beyond four years even if they are undertaking employment based training leading to QTS. Please refer to the following advice issued by DfE - ADVICE ON OTT.

Better than what we obviously have back at home.. Pending on how fast you get a grip of coursework, deadlines, plagiarism, referencing,in some cases group work, case studies, critical analysis and so on.

But between both schools Cranfield is tougher and expectations higher

In summary the quality of teaching in Coventry is good.

Thanks sis for your help. My cousin teaches Introductory Technology and has a B.Ed in it. Is she a good candidate for the OTT route? or should she just go through a Masters route in Education?

Canterbury is a beautiful town and you'd love it if you're into picturesque landscapes. The locals are welcoming; it's also a small and quiet place; Walking from the city centre to UniKent takes roughly 40-60 minutes. There are 3 universities in Canterbury (University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University and the University of Creative Arts) so a large student population exists.

The study experience is cool. The teaching quality is high and it's very vigorous; you're expected to produce the highest quality work on your studies but once you get a good grip of your academic writing style and engage with your course, it's easier to do. You can also take part in the Aspire business workshop if you intend to start a business after your course with the school's support; a classmate got his Tier 1 visa through this.
I took part in various programs on campus and volunteered on campus and it helped me settle quite well into my studies. You can log your volunteering activities on the Kent Union website and trade your points for internship experience to be undertaken after you finish your coursework for the session. You can also log your participation on the Global Skills Awareness program in order to trade it in for other rewards.

Students jobs are in constant supply. There's a club (club chemistry and it's sister club, Tokyo Tea rooms) in town that are constantly recruiting; no bartending or club work experience is required, they train newbies. They pay minimum wage which increases depending on how long you've been with them.
You can also work on campus (Venue night club, school cleaning dept, the school food stores e.t.c) or off campus (stores on the high street, bars and more are constantly recruiting); the school jobs pay just the minimum wage, no extras. The job shop in school also constantly posts on and off- campus jobs on its site and its doors. Your best bet for work would be Club Chemistry if you don't mind working at night, they also have programs with music artistes and DJs, charity events e.t.c from time to time which will give you more than 20hours (in 2-3 days) when it's not term time. If you end up going there, go to Club chemistry/Tokyo Team rooms and ask to speak to the manager or check their website/facebook for their contacts and send them a mail or call them.

Living expense is quite low if you don't go for the extras or on-campus accommodation. If you go for on-campus housing, you'd be placed in Woolf College (exclusively for PG students for Sept - Sept) or Tyler court (From Sept - July).
*Accommodation ranges from 290 to around 500 for shared apartments. The house I lived in was fully furnished with 5 bedrooms which ranged from £320 (single room) - £400 (double room) which included all bills. I lived close to the city centre so it was easier to shop and access buses to school.
Got my accommodation on https://homestampkent.co.uk/ it's a partnership of the 3 universities in Canterbury to help students find off-campus accommodation.

For ensuite accommodation off-campus, check https://www.crm-students.com/student-accommodation/canterbury/palamon-court-canterbury/

* Food costs the same as across London, I spent around £ 20-30 on food monthly because I usually had like 5-8 bowls of soup/stew which sometimes lasted me 6 weeks (I usually got this each time I went home in London so I didn't pay for this). Major purchases like a 5kg bag of rice, yam flour, poundo e.t.c cost me about £20 for 2 months. There's also just one African store close to the city centre.

*Transportation is quite cheap. At the start of each session, Stagecoach has a 9-month Unirider ticket offer for travel within Kent and East Sussex at around £250. You just need to show your card + student ID when you board buses; cost applies if you're going outside the coverage areas. If you don't buy the Unirider ticket for the session, each return trip will cost you around £3.50. If you have to go to Medway, you can register for the school's free bus there as the Unirider card isn't valid in Medway; the bus will drop you at the Medway campus.
For travel to London: return train ticket is around £45-50 but National Express return tickets are usually around £15-20. There are 2 train stations (Canterbury East and Canterbury West stations) and one bus station (Originating and terminal points for buses) in Canterbury.

Fun spots (I'll update as I remember):
Bluewater shopping centre, Greenhithe (for shopping, ice skating, nature trails, movies e.t.c) is about 50-60 mins from Canterbury via National express and a return ticket costs about £14.

Port of Dover: about 20 mins from Canterbury. Your Unirider ticket is valid for this.

Canterbury Cathedral. Free access with your student ID.

Gulbenkian theatre if you're into stage plays and performances.

Drinks/food hangout spots on campus: Woody's, Kbar, Origins, Mungos, Sibson cafe.
Drinks/food off campus: Cuban, The ballroom.

Anyway, I am just thinking!

Maybe add more of your detailed day-to-day activities

I don't know of any Google search (experience) that can

I got an offer from Canterbury Christ Church University and has been a bit skeptical cause I have no clue on how students life, job, cost of living and general experience in Canterbury is like, coupled with the fact that the school seems unpopular. Please do you have any idea about CCCU in respect to their teaching excellence and population of international students?

From what I know, teaching at CCCU is good though not as rigorous as UKC (it's rigorous too), hasn't got as much funding as UKC and in terms of ranking, it's just a few places behind UKC so it's still quite good. I met quite a number of international CCCU students (blacks, Europeans, Asians e.t.c) and they seemed content with the value being provided.
The rivalry between UKC and CCCU is high.

I saw this on FB and it was inspiring.

I decided to share it here

In 2017, after graduating from UNILAG with a second-class lower bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, I moved to the US, where I started a new life as a driver for Amazon. For almost a year, I would wake up in the morning to work my 10 to 11 hour shifts driving around the city of LA, delivering packages, avoiding parking tickets, running away from dogs, trying to reach 30 locations an hour, dealing with disgruntled customers, and even once I had the cops called on me when some (probably racist) person thought I was stealing packages in their neighborhood (I know what American handcuffs feel like hahaha). It was depressing. I had a degree in engineering, but deep down in my heart, I never felt like an engineer. I was nevertheless determined to change my life. At almost every company I delivered packages to, I’d ask for what they did, I’d take a business card, try to see whether I could land some kind of job there – anything I could just put in my resume. And like the fishermen in the story of John 21, there was nothing. For 8 months. Nothing. I didn’t care. I had nothing to lose. I took the GRE, and on a Saturday, while I had been doing my delivery driving, I came upon a small metal fabrication company in Paramount, and after I delivered this lady’s package, I just shot my shot. “I have an engineering degree, but I have no experience, and I just want to learn”. At that point, inexperience had been the one thing standing in the way of my engineering dreams, and I was determined to crush it, even if I had to work for free (thank God they didn’t ask me to work for free cos I’d have done it). She gave me an application, and a couple of weeks later I was an intern. I worked both jobs for the next year.
My new job was not funny though, I was picked on, I had my accent made fun of (I like my accent though, I think it’s cute), I learned the American workplace culture of CYA, because I quickly learned that you could very easily be thrown under the bus. I had coworkers yell at me and openly disrespect me, even in the presence of my boss, and watched how nobody did anything. I dealt with unequal treatment, and I could not complain because I was scared of losing my job. But I persisted. I persisted because I had my sights set on my future. It hurt. But I persisted. I still did my best. When I finally told my boss mid-June 2018, that I had planned to quit my job six weeks later to start my master’s degree. He seemed stunned, and so seemed my coworkers upon hearing the news. They probably never believed that I could advance beyond that point. I didn’t have a lot of life skills, I had little experience, and I honestly wasn’t worth much in the job market.
From the moment I began this program, my life changed. I took a skill-based approach to education. I didn’t care about the degree; I went for the knowledge. I went for the skillset. I focused on building my resume and I made sure I added value. In this journey, I met people who saw a potential and a value in me that I really hadn’t seen before. I met people who encouraged me. I made good friends. In my first semester, my former boss asked me to come work for him part time. I confided in a wise mentor at my school, and she told me these words “Joseph, you are a bullet… you leave them alone. There are people who will pay you good money to have you in their company with how smart you are”. I promise you; I didn’t see myself as valuable or even smart until she told me that. I took her advice, and one semester in, I landed an internship at an aerospace company. The next semester I was a manufacturing engineer in a transit company. Today I’m in biotechnology, and I honestly feel like there is nothing I can’t achieve. I have reached a new bus stop, but I am not quite done yet.
I am intensely grateful to God and to all those upon whose shoulders I have stood. My family, my classmates, groupmates, study partners, and most of all, my friends.
It was not easy working fulltime and going to school fulltime, and after all this wahala, after running helter-skelter for 2 years, after spending all my money, on Friday, I graduated. And this time, I feel like a real engineer.
I have learned a lot of lessons, and these are my two cents.
• Ask. Seek. Knock. Someone might just give you an opportunity. Sometimes, you really have nothing to lose. Don’t be proud, and don’t be shy.
• Listen to advice. You don’t have to take it, but you have to listen to it. You have to ask for it.
• Surround yourself with people who see potential in you and encourage you. Do not hesitate to cut people who discourage you out of your life. It doesn’t matter who it is, you have no business with someone who makes you feel small, who puts you down and steps on you when you are down.
• Don’t give in to fear. “Your degree is from Africa so it is not recognized”, “You graduated with 2:2”, “Your GPA is too low”, “You are lazy”, “You cannot work hard”, “They only give opportunities to their people”, “You are not smart”, “You are getting older”, “Your English is not good”, “You can’t keep up with these people”, "You are not exposed to the system", "You are green" – don’t listen to them. If I can do it, you can do it.
• Remember why you are in the race, and hopefully it will help when you’re dealing with a bad boss, a bad coworker, or a toxic environment.
• For young engineers; look for experience. You are only as valuable as the value you can give. If you can, work while you’re in school. It is better to graduate with an extra year and have work experience than to graduate without experience.
• Learn. Learn as much as you can.

Thank you so much.

Very inspiring story. The end is great!!!.

I wish it was as easy as: I moved to the UK and started life as a driver for Dyson. Or as an Uber Driver. That 'I moved and started life' is the koko of the matter.

3) in the offer from the school, they did not mention needing ielts results but i read it on ukgov site that proof of english is compulsory. Do i need to take the ielts exam even though the school dod not mention it on the offer given?

1. You can get your police clearance certificate using any of these three major methods:

-Apply in person at the force CID, Police Criminal Registry, Alagbon, Lagos State.
-Apply from your state through Nigeria Police Force website.

2. The police clearance certificate also acts as a background check on those who are immigrating to another country. This means that it qualifies as a DBS check since a basic DBS check is a criminal record check. Clarify from your school if you're unsure.

NOTE ON DBS CHECKS (IF NEEDED) FOR PROSPECTIVE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: Academic applicants who have lived outside the UK within the last five years will be requested to obtain an overseas police check from the country they had residence in. They will also be required to sign a declaration relating to starting employment/school prior to receiving an up to date and satisfactory DBS disclosure.

3. If your school has assessed and accepted your English language level and did not require that you submit IELTS scores, it will be stated on your CAS and you wouldn't need IELTS.

congrats, which school and course?
1) Alagbon, I can give you a police contact .. but I think it's too early for this now.. unless the school has asked that you submit this now, as the police report is only valid for 3 months. If your program is starting in January, it would expire before then and then you would have to do a new one..
2) I believe the school normally does this...confirm from them as it is a UK process, not najia
3) if the school did not ask, don't disturb yourself. often the english requirement is meant by WAEC or getting a letter from your najia school, stating that your studies was done in english. Yet again, please confirm from the UK school their process on this..

Honestly surprised they asked for DBS and police report.. That's usually from employers not schools.. Interesting....

Students (e.g. MBBS or teacher training programs) with research, contact or placements involving some positions or activities with children or vulnerable adults usually need to DBS checked.
