They would leave only if they make no money from Nigeria.

This might take away most profit. It's a business not a charity organization.

Arr they saying they don't want to pay tax??, because that is what is heard the NBC saying to them iroko,Netflix et.c

it's only cable Television enjoying monopoly like Multichoice that were told to share their rights ti fellow competitors.so
Government should serio assist TSTV to compete favourably with Multichoice.

I don't think you read the article

In brief, NBC wants Netflix, DStv and iroko to resell their original content made for Nigerian viewers to other broadcasters, and they are saying no.

If they end up doing so, that means you can access content from these people cheaply. On the other hand , it eats into their profits, hence their reluctance to resell

Best way for government to support foreign investment is to give them favourable policies that will attract more investors which in turn will cause competition. Thus competition will not only bring about better performance of the companies, it will also help in better treatment of their employees and more job creation

They are making profits because of the status quo.

If anything changes and they lose more money than they make, they will leave and never come back.

Population alone does not guarantee investment.

Enough Money has to be made from that population to attract investment.

Nigeria is confused. Do we want investors or not?. Same stupid confusion in power sector, oil, entertainment, water etc.
Especially the citizens. Decades of free crappy services have conditioned us to think everything should be free. Nothing good comes free.

Very stupid shortsighted leaders!!! After totally wasting over 50 years of oil revenue with nothing to show instead of cutting down their expensive of running a govt that does nothing they are looking for who to extort in the name of tax so they can continue paying themselves armed robber remunerations !!!

This is how these guys Destroyed the lives of MTN local vendors and partners after their dubious fines against MTN and today the Telco doesn't support local businesses and iniatives that much again , that's why you don't have Who wants to be a millionaire again , that's why there is no Project fame again . Personally I know how much my company lost in revenue projection from that same action ..I was in middle of closing out an outdoor ad deal with one of the companies before COVID started and now the Buhari govt toes this path ..Tell me how I can ever like this Buhari ..NEVER!!!!!

I am particular worried about DSTV.

As much as they are disliked, they have invested billions into the Nigerian entertainment sector.

They have done far more for Nollywood and the entertainment sector than the govt since 1999.

If they leave, the ripple effects would be Massive.

Buhari and his people should be careful.

Don't spoil what you didn't create.

True, dstv is just ripping ppl off.

It's a free market economy - charge whatever you like.

It's left for the government to make the economy conducive so that other players can enter the market and force prices down!

I may not be getting the full picture here, but the government wants to stop exclusivity. As part of intellectual property rights, there's no way the government can force a content provider to give out its intellectual property for free, there'd have to be financial gains for such a transaction for the content provider. I believe the problem these companies have with the new order and exclusivity is the fact that they can't exclusively hold rights of distribution to their works and hence stipulate and force consumers to pay whatever they please because said customers have no alternatives. Competition helps the common man at the end of the day, FG should compel them to sub-license to other broadcasting organizations who want their contents, let them negotiate and flood the market, they'd definitely make their profits back, they won't just make insane margins at the expense of the common man. At the end of the day, the ordinary man benefits, that's what governance should be.
