You were owed for 3 months and you think that is a problem?

Why not sign agreement with your buyers stipulating the payment conditions and penalty for default?

We used to do sales on return when we were into distribution, if you don't pay for previous supply, you don't get new supply. We target at least 20% profit margin, so after 5 trade cycle, even if the buyer defaults after the 5th trade cycle, our previous profits would have covered for that default. Also the credit rating of each buyer is linked to previous payment performance.

Between the time you got your farmland and the time you are going to plant is more than the 3 months delay that you are complaining about, so even in the farming, your money is still tied down.

If wholesalers are giving you headache, why not sell directly to retailers or why not sell at cash only basis to wholesalers at less profit margins?

Anyway welcome to farming, I have been involved in farming for sometime now so I can not advise anyone to leave the service sector to the primary production sector unless it is backward integration where you already have a successful service business running and you want to expand into production to feed your services business.

Look at what Dangote did in cement, he was importing cement clinkers and just grinding and packaging them for sale, this was a service business. After the success of the service business he started opening up his own cement production plants and asked government to frustrate importation of cement clinkers by others. He had a going service business before into production of cement.

The same thing can be said of his sugar and salt businesses they are still service businesses until today. His foray into primary production without a corresponding service business failed when he tried to go into tomato farming and paste production.

I wish you success and welcome to our club of farmers. We feed the nation, although we don't become millionaires through farming.

Theres a lot I have learnt from this. Thank you sir

My first 2.5 ha will be 1 month on the 12th of August.. Application of selective herbicide, pesticide and fertilizer loading.

The pesticide will be applied first and after 3 days, the selective herbicide will follow suite and then fertilizer after one week. Everything is going as planned just that rain have refused to fall in anambra state for some days ....

Good job.

a hectare of land when planting by broadcasting it takes 55 to 60kg and in return you are likely to get about 3.5 to 6 tons of rice paddy, this also depend on your agricultural practice. If you are to mill 70% is to white rice and 30% is for the rice bran/ husk. Let's say you get 1 ton from one hectare which is 1000kg, 70% of it is 700kg for white rice while 300kg is the rice bran.. I hope you understand
I doubt if rice husk from a 100kg paddy will weigh 30kg.

You should have practiced rotational farming of legumes on the land instead of waiting till July before planting yours rice.

Nope. 150 at most if you want to go by standard. Standard is 9metres apart. Just multiply 500 by 9 and see the nunber of palms that could fit into a hectare.

Sometimes it depends on the machine milling the rice. You may not get the exact standard but variations. It’s best to estimate 67% white rice, 22% Rice bran and 11% Rice husk (JUST AN AVERAGE)

The level of polishing, variety and type of milling machine plays a huge factor.

Rice bran is a byproduct of the rice milling process (the conversion of brown rice to white rice), and it contains various antioxidants that impart beneficial effects on human health.

In a nutshell, when you remove husk/hull from the rice, you will have brown rice. After polishing the brown rice, you will have white rice and rice bran (scrapped from the brown rice). Rice bran quantity is a function of the level of polishing.

that's because it's farming season, it's usually time for scarcity of agricultural produce. by November the price will drop like a rock.

@ Ikelords, that seems really nice and promise for 1 month 10days.
