PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by 0bjpmb: 4:49pm On Jan 23, 2025
Mktinsight the night owl, go and look for job. There is insecurity everywhere in Nigeria. Stop coming here with your politically veiled posts as if there’s any state that’s safer than the other in Nigeria. A whole bus full of passengers was kidnapped last week in Enugu, till now nothing has been heard, if it was in Anambra, you ediots would still be here to post nonsense. No one in Enugu thread is even talking about it.

abuzz33:
You don't kidnap people with stones but with guns and a vehicle on major roads. You use the telecommunication system. Yet what was Soludos response to anti kidnapping? Handing out vehicles and a 5m reward.
If one is serious about shutting down these gangs Israeli military consultants have the tools to use intelligence to track every single one of these gang members. They have the tools to identify arms movements. But soludo solution is buying pickups and painting agunechemba on them.
Professor indeed.

This is very true. When ESN was formed in Aba/Owerri by Ipob, we warned against it. But because SE is a small place, they easily reached out to the entire region. Every community, every state of the region must be part of pushing back on this nonsense that was brought about by Ipob to the region.

EmeeNaka:
IPOB-ESN has destroyed Igboland. You think calling someone Efulefu or supporting IPOB-ESN terrorists make you an IGbo person? You may be one of the IPOB-ESN members, and you must refrain from provoking people. Any body who justify IPOB in whatever guise or reason is a criminal. Igboland don't need IPOB illiterates.
PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by 0bjpmb: 8:14pm On Jan 12, 2025
I quite agree with you. Until we see the insecurity in the SE as a collective challenge, the region won’t make much progress. Almost every state in the region has similar security challenge, but pinning it in a particular place is a total flaw. Size of SE is averaging the size of Oyo state. Tell me why we should see the challenge in the region as a regional issue.

EmeeNaka:
it's definitely senseless how our people believe that security failure in the North makes the insecurity in South east acceptable. Gov Willie Obiano started such useless narrative in 2021 election campaign. In one hand, IPOB supporter Catholic priest, Obimma, claimed that one Igbo man is equivalent to 500 hausa lives and some people were in agreement, but when it come to counting human life lost to insecurity, they count one hausa to one igbo. Even at that, nothing justify an IGbo man killing another Igbo man. Fulani terrorists do not kidnap or attack fulanis. Hausa bandits do not attack hausas, I jaw militants didn't kidnap I jaws.
Only Igbos kill Igbos or kidnap other Igbos. The same thing happened during slave trade. It is horrendous and completely unconscionable.
PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by 0bjpmb: 8:10pm On Jan 12, 2025
You are talking nonsense. No one mentioned northern states here. Imo state is the UGM, terrorists, kidnappers and armed robbery headquarters of southern Nigeria, but media is not talking about it.

Places like Orlu, Orsu, Oguta, etc, are no go areas due to high insecurity ravaging the state. Forget the media bias misinformation, no place is actually safe in Nigeria. Insecurity in Nigeria is a national issue, but usually Anambra is the center of attraction whenever it is mentioned. Otherwise places like imo state has thrice the insecurity we have seen in Anambra.

Obi1kenobi:
One of the things I find ridiculous here is talking about the manifest failures of Anambra in security and some people start gaslighting you by:
1) talking about how there are other states with security challenges
2) talking about how we're making ourselves look bad

This is gaslighting and it's also very juvenile. And irresponsible. And makes no sense.
Nigeria is one of the worst shiitholes on the planet in the APC era (we're competing with countries like Somalia and South Sudan for the very bottom of humanity), so using the situation in states in the North to console yourself about our situation is obviously absurd. We should aspire to be the best, or be among the best of the states in this absolute shiithole of a country (which would still leave us among teh bottom of humanity) rather than comforting ourself with the notion that our security challenges is not as bad as Borno or Yobe or Kaduna. The fact that Anambra is the kidnap and crime capital of the SE alone is utterly disgraceful and merits vocal condemnation.
PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by 0bjpmb: 5:37pm On Jan 12, 2025
You people should stop this back and forth arguments here. There’s no state that’s safe in Nigeria. Things are happening almost everywhere. Enugu state is not safe, so for ediots that are referencing Enugu should know that Enugu is not safe despite the propaganda going on there. Imo state is not safe, Abia is not safe. This is a SE problem, some you ediots should stop narrowing it down to Anambra, because there’s no single state in SE or Nigeria that’s safe. Anyone in Anambra now can attest that activities are everywhere in the state. Media is the only tool that’s escalating both fake and genuine news. Mbah is not doing anything differently, because places like Nimbo, Nsukka, etc are still under siege by insecurity but mostly unreported.

Mktinsight take your nonsense elsewhere. There’s no safe state in Nigeria, not even a single one. Stop your stupid warped narrative of making this situation in Nigeria about Anambra. Anyone in Anambra right now can attest to the massive influx of people in the state. Almost everywhere is full of activities. However, Anambra is among the safest in Nigeria standard.

PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by 0bjpmb: 4:03pm On Jan 02, 2025
All these insecurities originate from imo state, no wonder, it mostly affects Anambra communities that are boundaries with imo state.

abuzz33:
The kind of crime committed points out to well coordinated weapons distribution. There are only three sources of military grade weaponry in Anambra:

1) The Nigerian police. Interestingly over 2,000 guns have disappeared over the years from police formations in Anambra which suggests a level of complicity between police officers and criminals something that needs to be investigated by special forces.

2) Gunrunners. There has been little investigation to identify and arrest gun salesmen in trading towns like Onitsha and Nnewi. The trucks that ply the state sometimes carry contraband items like guns and bullets.

3) ESN - The igbos continue to underplay the dangers of an armed paramilitary group claiming to fight for liberation. From Liberia to Sudan such groups usually morph into monsters competing with the state for power. The gangs claiming to be ipob armed faction is directly responsible for the increasing insecurity in the state.

Solutions:

1) Cameras. The armed gangs that conduct car snatching, kidnapping often ply the expressways of the state. Yet the state cannot even conduct simple intelligence of identifying suspicious vehicles on the road. There are no cameras monitoring major roads or arteries or reading vehicle license plates.

2) Hand held XRay Scanners- Armed military officers tactically experienced should man checkpoints on the roads not to restrict flow but to identify suspicious drivers and vehicles for further surveillance. Xray Scanners can quickly find vehicles transporting hidden guns.

3) Criminal profiling. Govt should recruit special investigators to build profiles of criminals in the state and to monitor their communication and social networks. From this intelligence profiles of gun runners, kidnap gangs and financiers can be built for prosecution.

4) Police probe. Police should be investigated for gun running and ties with cultists, kidnap gangs with bad eggs identified and prosecuted. The state must act quickly on this.

5) Military action - the military must be engaged to flush out the camps of kidnap gangs in forests around the state in a concerted action. It must operate in Anambra, Imo and Enugu.

Awka – Anambra State has recorded a remarkable increase in its monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), rising from ₦2.2 billion to ₦5.2 billion within the past year—a growth of over 100%.

This was disclosed by Amara Oyeka, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on IGR, during the presentation and validation of research conducted across 21 major markets in the state’s three senatorial zones.

The research is part of the Tax for Service Project, implemented by the Tax Justice and Governance Platform (TJ&GP) in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), with support from Oxfam Nigeria.

Despite the growth, Oyeka noted significant obstacles in achieving this result. Many affluent citizens in the state evade taxes, while a substantial portion of collected revenue—estimated at over 50%—is diverted into private hands.

“We have a situation where revenue collectors are richer than the government,” Oyeka revealed. “Most of those tarnishing the government’s image are not even employed by us. While we work harder than other states, the system is plagued by numerous leakages. We are determined to address these issues.”

He emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders to sanitize the system and ensure that Anambra receives its rightful revenue share. “The higher the revenue, the greater the citizens’ power to demand public goods,” he added.

Ugochi Ehiahuruike, Executive Director of the Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC), which hosts the Tax Justice and Governance Platform in Anambra, highlighted the project’s goals.

“The Tax for Service Project is designed to bridge the gap between taxpayers and service providers, fostering transparency, accountability, and trust in governance,” she explained. “This research provides a foundation for strategic interventions to improve tax compliance and public service outcomes.”

Dr. Greg Ezeilo, Chairman of the Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue Service (AiRS), represented by the Director of Taxes, Herbert Ofomata, lamented the disparity between the state’s economic potential and its revenue profile.

“The financial worth of markets in Anambra is immense, yet government revenue does not reflect this reality,” he said. “Markets are the oil wells of this state. From Onitsha to Awka, markets dominate, and we must leverage this resource to fund public services effectively.”

The state’s commitment to reforming its revenue collection system, coupled with partnerships with civil society and stakeholders, signals a determined effort to enhance transparency and accountability while maximizing Anambra’s economic potential.
