The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office, on Thursday, September 26, 2019, secured the conviction of a thirty five year old Stephen Olarewaju Odanye who was charged before a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin.

Odanye had on Wednesday pleaded guilty to the one count charge preferred against him by the EFCC. .

The Charge reads, "That you, Stephen Olarewaju Odanye (a.k.a Raymond Sullivan) sometime in September 2019 or thereabout at Ilorin, Kwara State within the jurisdiction of this honourable Court attempted to commit an offence of cheating by pretending and presenting yourself to to one Lynn Smith, to be a white man, supplier of Engineering and Construction equipment, living in Washington as it is contained in your email gmail account: raysulivan@yahoo.com and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 95 and 321 of the penal code law and punishable under section 322 of the same act"

Giving his Judgment on Thursday, Justice Abdulgafar said, "The defendant was arraigned on one count charge of attempt to commit an offence of cheating by pretending and representing one Lynn Smith, an offence contrary to Section 95 of the Penal Code law"

"The prosecution called one witness, Olamide Sadiq, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission who narrated to this honourable court, how the defendant was arrested and items recovered from his laptop Computer"

The Judge said the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt as the evidence of the sole witness was not challenged. .

"I found you, Stephen Olarewaju Odanye, guilty of one count charge of attempt to cheat by impersonation and hereby sentenced you to a six month imprisonment without an option of fine "

Justice Abdulgafar further directed that the convict's Laptop and mobile phones should be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, #EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office, on Thursday, September 26, 2019, arraigned a thirty six year old Joesph Oyediran, one of the wanted suspects by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, FBI.

Oyediran was arraigned before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of a Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, on a five count charge bordering on internet fraud and other fraud related Offences, obtaining money under false pretence among others.

Count two of the Charge reads, "That you, Joseph Oyediran (Joe MG, Morris Graves), sometime in May 2015, within the jurisdiction of this honourable Court, with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N1,421,968.00 (One Million, Four Hundred and Twenty One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Sixty Eight Naira) from one Andrea Smith, a white American woman on the false pretence that you were Joe MG a white American man in love with her, a representation you knew to be false punishable under section 1(3) of the Advance Fee fraud and other fraud related Offences Act no. 14of 2006"

Oyediran, however, pleaded not guilty to all the five count charges levelled against him by the anti graft body. .

When the matter was called on Thursday, Prosecuting Counsel, Sessan Ola told Justice Abdulgafar "My Lord, we have a five count charge before this honourable Court dated 19th day of September 2019, we urge the court to accept the charge and allow the accused person to take his plea.

Counsel to the accused, M.A Bello, however did not object to the application. .

After the plea was taken, prosecuting Counsel further informed the court that "My Lord, in view of the defendant's plea of not guilty, we are asking for a trial date to enable the prosecution to prove its case, we also pray your Lordship to remand the defendant in prison custody pending the hearing and determination of this matter. .

Ruling on the submission, Justice Abdulgafar ordered the accused person to be remanded in Mandala Prison and adjourned the case till October 9, 2019 for commencement of trial.

Two doctors with the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, have appeared before the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria Tribunal, to answer charges of gross professional negligence.

The doctors, Iyiola Adewale and Adigba Onodjohwoyovwe, are accused of gross professional negligence which led to the death of a patient in their care.

The prosecuting counsel, Nasiru Aliyu, told the tribunal on Monday in Asaba that the defendants while on duty on March 7, 2017, negligently handled one of their patients, a pregnant woman, Mrs Rita Uchebuego, now late. According to the prosecutor, they allegedly failed to attend to her as appropriate for the management of her condition.

The deceased's husband, Mr Ngozi Uchebuego, an Asaba-based surveyor, alleged negligence by medical personnel at the hospital and called for the dismissal of the medical director and four other doctors.

While the death of the housewife raises some controversies, the hospital management, however, through the Acting Medical Director, Dr. Victor Osiatuma, has maintained that she died of blood transfusion reaction, denying claims of negligence. Read previous LIB report here

Aliyu said the offence is punishable under section 16 of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act. However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. Chairman of the tribunal, Prof. Abba Hassan, adjourned the case till Sept. 24, for address.

The tribunal was established for the trial of offences under the medical and dental practitioners act. This is the tribunal’s third session in 2019 and had already convicted some doctors during its second session for professional misconduct.

Actress Sotayogaga calls out Saidi Balogun after he introduced her to an alleged scammer who duped her followers.

Nollywood actress, Tayo Sobola otherwise known as Sotayo-Gaga has accused fellow actor, Saidi Balogun, of introducing her to a man who duped her followers.

Sotayo in a post shared on her Instagram page, said the alleged scammer named Idris has gone underground after he allegedly scammed her followers with the promise he was going to facilitate their trip to Saudi Arabia for the hajj. She stated that Saidi Balogun has ignored her calls and messages to mediate and locate the man who is currently at large. Read her post below

WANTED!!!!! Months ago i was approached by @saidibalogun and @mustiphasholagbade to go on Hajj/mecca trip with them sponsored by this guy named IDRIS.
I was talked into becoming an ambassador for his company and i refused immediately. After much questioning from me to @saidibalogun and @mustiphasholagbade ,they assured me that they know him well and he's not a scammer. Then i accepted the offer of going with them to Hajj. Now, i was sent a flier to post on my page which is suppose to be the proper procedure to be taken. Now, to cut all long stories this guy took money from some of my contacts and since then he has neither called anyone /picked up calls nor refunded the money he collected . He's nowhere to be found.

Onyekackukwu Chukwuebuke Igwilo, a 20-year-old male Towson University resident student, has been charged in connection with the alleged rape of another student.

He was charged with first-degree rape, attempted first-degree rape, false imprisonment and first- and second-degree assault in Maryland, U.S

Officials said the victim was assaulted around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Towson Way. The victim told police she had gone to her friend, Igwilo’s room to watch a movie.

They were watching the movie when he touched her and climbed on top of her, the victim said. Officials said the victim said, "No," but he put his hands on her throat. .

When she told him again to stop, the suspect raped her and would not let her leave, officials said. Igwilo finally let her leave and she had visible and physical injuries. She then contacted campus police.

The Towson University Police reported the case to the county police around 7:30 p.m. TU police secured the crime scene, found Igwilo and detained him until county police arrived. The suspect is being held without bail.

A business man who was returning from warri to Asaba was arrested during STOP and SEARCH by some Police men.

They searched his bag and saw female underwear (Pant), soap etc.

The man explained to them the items belongs to his wife who also shares the bag with him.
They called him 'RITUALIST', seized his phone and start going through his phones and saw bank transactions. They denied him access to speak to his wife to verify his story and call any family member.

A Nigerian man, simply identified as Harrison aka Awilo, has died after being shot by the police in #Manila, Philippines.

The incident reportedly happened during an argument in the early hours of Wednesday, during a raid of his apartment. Awilo was expecting a child with his partner when tragedy struck.
