Malaysian lady scams U.S athlete of $1.2m, using fake investments in Ni­ger­ian oil

A 59-year-old Malaysian-born con-artist has been sentenced to 51 months in an American prison after pleading guilty to identify theft and fraud.

Washington Post reported that Cheah Siew Im was sentenced to jail on Oct 4 in Alexandria, Virginia, after having been arrested in 2017.

According to the report, Cheah had stolen the identities of at least six people, including past roommates. She would then use those identities for scams.

"She convinced professional athletes and successful executives she was the granddaughter of Singapore’s first prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew, and a close friend of former US President Barack Obama.

The money they gave her for supposed investments in Nigerian oil and Washington sports teams they now believe she spent on high-end cars, plastic surgery and designer handbags," the report said.

According to court records, her victims included a chef, trainer and several manicurists, among others.

One federal prosecutor described her in court as "a one-woman crime spree." Another, in a sentencing motion, said she "has perfected the art of identity theft."

Victims described a mix of anger and awe at Cheah's near-mystical powers of persuasion. She scammed a Washington Redskins player and his agent out of $1.2m.

A lady identified as Farida Saminu, drowned in floodwater in Kaduna state on Sunday evening October 27th.

According to reports, Farida was scheduled to have her wedding on Friday November 1st.

A relative of the deceased, Husaini K. who spoke to LIB this morning, said Farida went for a meeting with the makeup artriste she had contracted for her wedding and was heading home when the tragic incident occurred.

She boarded a tricycle that had five passengers including herself. Sadly as they were climbing a bridge, the water wave swept the tricycle to the edge of the bridge and she fell into the river. She was the only casualty in the unfortunate incident.

Husaini said Farida's body has not been found.

Nigerian Celebrity, Who Worked In Hindi Films, Arrested At Delhi Airport

The man had a ticket to Goa on a flight of airline Vistara and when he was questioned, he divulged that his visa had expired, CISF officials said.

New Delhi: A Nigerian celebrity who also acted in some Bollywood movies was apprehended by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the Delhi airport on Thursday for allegedly overstaying in the country, officials said.
They said Olamilekan M Akanbi Ojora was intercepted around 4 am at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) after security personnel found him roaming suspiciously in the terminal area.

The man had a ticket to Goa on a flight of airline Vistara and when he was questioned, he divulged that his visa had expired, they said.

CISF officials later contacted immigration and central intelligence agencies which confirmed that the Nigerian man's visa had expired in 2011, officials said.

"The man enjoys a celebrity status in his country and has also acted in some Hindi movies. He was living in India illegally," a senior CISF officer said.

He has been handed over to intelligence bureau sleuths for further probe, the officer said.

A video of the spot a Federal High Court Judge, Abdul Dogo was kidnapped in Akure, Ondo State's capital has surfaced online.

Recall we reported that Justice Abdul was kidnapped on Tuesday October 22, while travelling from Abuja to Akure.

Eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident, said it was a targeted attack and all occupants of the car the High Court Judge was driving in were abducted. The kidnappers have already contacted Dogo's family, demanding a N50m ransom.
