naijaking,
Spot on post. I daresay you are right about the ''shortsightedness'' of the Delta people at the time. But, do you remember Isaac Boro? It was only when it became clear to him at the time, the agenda of the FG that he decided to rebel against the them. That cost him his life. We need more Boros today to fight our cause once again.

I am not quite sure the role Adaka Boro played against his eatern Nigeria provence, but I know too many people fell for the federal carrots, ie abandoned property, boundary adjustment, etc.

History will also validate the likes of Col. Effiong who saw the bigger picture on time.

Fact is that when men come up with evil machinations, they believe it will last for ever, they forget that it will only last for a while. Over the past 50 years, the people of the delta watched helplessly as the major ethnic groups of this country carved out their lands, called them OMLs, OPLs,  funny names, etc etc and sold them to the highest bidder foreigners. They practically shared the delta lands to their own advantage.

And after sharing the lands, they sat back and watch as the foreigners go to work in the creeks, drilling wells for oil and gas. The foreigners are here for profit and profit alone. They careless about the well being of the inhabitants of the area, rightly so I daresay, afterall, the government is supposed to be responsible for the up keep for their citizens.

But the foreigners don't know that these government are largely composed of ethnic groups who careless about the well being of the delta people. They were shocked to their bones when they realised that they've been dealing with the wrong people.

With time, everyone now knows who own what and how proceeds from oil sales have been shared over the past 50 years.

Tensions are flaring high in the delta. It's only a matter of time. The fragile union called Naija will be subjected to the true test of ''unionship'' - where everyone will have a say in the way this country should/will be governed.

So these people of the delta how do they improve their situation? Is by turning to militancy (and championing it) or by turning a blind eye to the excesses of their leaders, political and traditional, (who are in a position to bring about positive changes but instead help themselves with funds meant for developing the region)?
Yes tensions are flaring high as evidenced in the Niger delta region. This is because forces are at play which everyone, indeed every region of the country will have to grapple with eventually. . .If only the positive path is chosen then it usher in an era of untold development. . .

Despite internal squabbles within the various tribal entities of the former eastern nigeria, I still think that the chances of the ND people are better when they work with their respective kit and kins in the east and midwestern regions.

Unfortunately or fortunately, a permanent wedge seem to have been driven between these groups by--- you know who?

Please kindly find out how many roads, schools and hospitals Chevron, Shell, Agip et al have built in te UK, in the US and Europe.
These dumbasses in the ND region want these foreign oil coys to replace the local governments role of development, while they share the loot with their local government chairmen

Your childish use of foul language gives away all your pretension to taking part in  an intellectual discussion.

FYI, Chevron, Shell, and Agip don't take over peoples' land in the US with collabration of the respective governments as they do in naija where oil is supposed to be government property.

Why the hell is oil not government property in TX, as it is in naija?

The Presence of Military personnel on the streets of yenagoa in bayelas state is scary.

My last visit to Otueke , the Vice President's village showed the scary and intimidating men of the Armed frorces from the navy, police, soldier, air force , mopol, etc.

We live in a civil society, there shuold be a gradual phase out of the presence of this die hard looking soldiers, some of them had padlocks clipped on there lips, believe it.

I promise to send you pictures from yenagoa soon
