[b]UNILAG disowns Cynthia’s suspected killer

AUTHORITIES of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has disowned Mr. Okwoma Nwabufor, one of the suspected killers of Cynthia Osokogu, daughter of Maj-Gen Frank Osokogu (rtd).

Nwabufor had introduced himself as a 300 level Accounting student of the Distance Learning Institute (DLI) of the varsity.

But the institution’s Deputy Registrar (Information), Seth Adebisi Dare, said the claim of the suspect was far from being the truth.

In a reply to a request made by The Nation, Dare said the name of the suspect was not found in any records of UNLAG students.

The response addressed to the editor and entitled: Re: Okwoma Nwabufor, alleged murderer of Cynthia Osokogu is not a student of UNILAG reads: “Our attention has been drawn to recent media reports which identified one of the suspects in the alleged murder of Cynthia Osokogu, daughter of Major-General Frank Osokogu, as a 300 level Accounting student of the Distance Learning Institute of the University of Lagos.

“After careful evaluation of students’ records, the University authorities have found the suspect, Okwoma Nwabufor’s claim of being a student of UNILAG, untrue.

“No such person is registered as a student in our Department of Accounting or any other Department of the University.

“We wish to urge all media organisations to note this fact and discountenance the claim of the suspect, Mr. Nwabufor and desist from associating him with the University of Lagos.

The university management also wishes to use this opportunity to reiterate its commitment to the vision statement of the university which is: “To be a top class institution for the pursuit of excellence in knowledge through learning and research, as well as in character and service to humanity.”

Also yesterday, the Southeast Governor’s Forum condemned the killing of Cynthia, the daughter of Major-General Osukogu, by suspected Facebook friends.

Chairman of the forum and Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi spoke with reporters on the arrest of one of the suspects at Nnewi.

The two culprits - Okwuoma Nwabufor and Ezekiel Odera have confessed to the crime.

Obi described Cynthia’s killers as wicked and barbaric. He said the killers were not worthy to live among men.

The governor described as unfortunate a situation where some people, rather than tap the enormous advantages that go with the internet and other social media, seek to put it into bad use thus bringing it into disrepute.

He said the bad use was symptomatic of the erosion of values in our society and declared that what Nigeria needed most is value-reorientation and ethical rebirth.

clearly,the lying fool knew laying claim to being a student of Unilag would raise his credibility and profile.A little cross checking of this false identity by their unfortunate victim may have made a difference,at least alert her that these guys are crooks.sadly,this girl's death is a lesson to all young people.
this idea of people falsely using the brand name of Unilag is as old as the University of Lagos itself.It stems from the attention and respect that usually follows the announcement that a person is associated with Unilag,either as alumnus or students.That much I knew even as an undergraduate in another prime university.The school must scale up its website with a database to confirm existing and past products of university of Lagos.The school should know that most people use the name of the school to 'represent' or impress people so they must have a fully functional public relations/information department accessible to people who have dealings with unilag products to confirm their claim to the school.
That rogue,just like some other prostitues parading themselves as Akokites should be fished out,even if it means public enlightenment.Only God knows how many of them are out there!

A thorough due diligence of the business proposal and possibly background check of these guys may have turned up something,as simple as these two precautions are,no one would imagine that it could safe her life or the life of any other person for that matter!
unilag is a public institution and no restriction to the school campus,even an ordinary messenger in the department the alleged killer falsely claimed to be,can confirm if the killer was a student or not! for God's sake she was a postgraduate student in Nassarawa university or is it that most students of these mushroom universities dont know this fact?.

I absolutely agree wit the bolded. Nigerians are morally bankrupt. These people are beyond sick and have turned right to wrong and wrong to right. They are twisted.
