African countries have continued to improve on the medals standing, wining 39 medals in the six days of competition at the on-going London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Africa’s 39 medals include 10 gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze medals. The seven countries that won the medals are Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Namibia.
Nigeria leads other African countries with four gold, five silver and a bronze medal, closely followed by South Africa with two gold, four silver and four bronze medals.
Egypt has two gold and four bronze medals; Tunisia has a gold, two silver, and a bronze medal; Morocco, a gold and a bronze medal; Algeria has a silver and five bronze medals; while Namibia has a silver. Nigeria won most of its medals from powerlifting.
Among the medalists on Monday were powerlifters: Victoria Nneji, 67.50kg (silver) and Folashade Oluwafemiayo, 75kg (bronze).

It speaks volumes about Nigeria, as a so-called third world nation, that it has the sophistication to send disabled athletes to major competition like the Olympics let alone that they should perform so well. Bravo Nigeria and congrats to the athletes.
