THE Ag. DIRECTOR GENERAL CPC IMO STATE, DESTROYS EXPIRED AND ADULTERATED PRODUCTS, ASSURED IMOLITES OF SAFETY OF FOODS AND DRINKS IN OUR MARKETS.

The Ag. Director General consumer Protection council, Imo state, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor, today 1st June, supervised the burning of expired products at avu junction along Portharcourt Road Owerri Imo State.

Addressing avalanche of news men after the event, Hon. Mrs. Okafor said that the items were seized by CPC officers during their last raid in the major markets, shops, Super Markets, pharmaceutical shops, restaurants, bars, etc in Owerri and across Imo state which are either expired, without NAFDAC approval number, banned or no expiring date at all. The products are mainly consumables like soft drinks, drugs, biscuits, alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages of assorted kinds, tin tomatoes, milk, Red wines, condiments, cosmetics, breads, can waters etc.

The acting DG CPC Imo state asserted that the act no. 66 of 1992 which established CPC stipulates that CPC is saddled with the responsibility of protecting and promoting public health through information, education and enforcement of the relevant rules and regulations to ensure food safety.

According to CPC Boss, the commission is out to aggressively promote and ensure sanity in imo through the eradication of diseases caused by food poison, suffered by consumers in the state.

There Will be no compromise as the shared prosperity agenda of the present administration of senator Hope Uzodinma must ensure quality of goods and services in the state, and this is what CPC is called to achieve. She further explained that its no longer going to be business as usual, she has set up a formidable surveillance and enforcement team made up of men and women of proven integrity to ensure total compliance with required standards in the production and sales of quality goods and services in the state. "We are committed to put things in order, we are doing our best to make sure consumers are given sense of belonging, I assure you there are better days ahead"

Hon. Mrs Okafor warned that she has come to do things differently as the DG CPC Imo State, no amount of threat or pressure from manufacturers or producers of fake or adulterated goods will deter her at all, stressing that the earlier they comply with the required standards the better for them. The DG also informed the public that the destruction of those confiscated items is one of the CPC's proactive efforts at combating fake products in the state.

She also observed with great dismay that most business outfits in the state are still operating in an unhygienic environment which makes them unfit to serve the public and consequently expose their food and drinks to diseases that can cause health challenges to the people. On this note, the acting DG CPC promised to create more public awareness with a view to enlighten the masses on the need to do the right thing.

The rehabilitation of some failed sections of the road just began today at a popular bad spot along the road known as Mmiri Ucheagwu, this failed section of the road has over the years remained a huge problem to the people of the area and also, on the side of the government despite it's yearly remedial construction.

To this end, the Shared Prosperity Government of HE_HopeUzodimma approved the rehabilitation of the road with drainage system control where all the storm waters will be channelled down to a stationed borrow pit.

According to the Works Commissioner, the duration of the road rehabilitation will take six weeks or more, He therefore called on the contractor to live upto the standard expectations of his job and urged the people of the area to cooperate with the contractor to realize the purpose of giving the road a facelift.

GOVERNOR HOPE UZODIMMA RECIEVES IMO JUDICIAL COMMISSION REPORT

Imo State Goverment has received the report of the judicial commision of Inquiry on Lands and Related Matters with a promise to study the outcomes and take the appropriate actions where necessary .

Hon. Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe (Rtd.) Who is the chairman of the panel informed the Govenor that she and her members ascertained the extent of distortion to the Owerri Master Plan.

“The visual evidence shows that the distortion of Owerri Master Plan was colossal and mind-boggling. It requires a man/government with lion’s heart to restore same, bearing in mind that you cannot make an omelette without breaking an egg,” Justice Duruoha-Igwe said.

She added that the Commission’s recommendation had only one motivating factor: “to completely restore Owerri Master Plan and the lost glory of our beautiful city.” She added that they were mindful of the fact that history and people of Imo State will judge them harshly if they fail in the onerous task of doing it right.

A total of 1,532 petitions/memoranda were received from Imo State and the Diaspora.

The governor while receiving the report assured the members that the government will critically study it with a view to doing the needful in the interest of Imo people.

Mr Commissioner for Public Utilities, Tony Umezurike, your talk of banning sale of “pure water “ in Imo state can only make sense when Imo state government completes the water supply projects of Mbakwe in Okigwe and Orlu senatorial zones;
now that similar water supply project of Mbakwe in Owerri zone is getting restored. Enough of this grandstanding, Owerri zone can’t host all of Imo state.

There can start by rejigging the cargo section of the airport and ensure the installation of night landing equipments for night operation capability

Rejigging it? I thought that was part of the upgrading process it underwent?

Seeing that it is now a federal government airport, can the state actually carry out these installations?

It seems the man used the money to deposit on his fixed deposit current account to be yielding him interests at the expense of civil servants.

IMSG built the cargo section but it's left for FAAN to operationalize it, the state govt can carryout the installation in collaboration with FG.
The airport just needs a bit diplomacy between imsg and fg to reach it's potential

I think they included the airport based on regional considerations

The original idea was to open 4 airports and the rest will be done later

Lagos - South West
Abuja - Centre
Port Harcourt - South South
Kano - Core North
Owerri - South East

However, Sam Mbakwe Airport, in my opinion, was included to carry the South East along.

If they didn't include Owerri, it means everyone coming from the region will have to go through Port Harcourt.

Hope has just done a few months into his tenure and you are talking about second term

FYI, no governor takes their second tenure seriously because they use it to complete most of the projects they initiated earlier while kicking off a few that they will certainly abandon

Lol you are the dreamer o.. How will you say Lagos is the industrial hub of Africa .

Where would you throw the likes of Johannesburg, Cape town and Cairo.
See Lagos is just one overpopulated city, yes it's industrial but the environment is not really conducive for many foreign companies.

I said what I said , Anambra can rival Lagos in whatever industrialization they have , Owerri can be as beautiful as Abuja.

All these can only happen with good governance, and with mindset of Igbo rich people coming home to establish the industries ..
What is a Lagos kwanu? No be the same Igbo people plenty for that state?

Oga, this is unnecessary

The topic should be Imo State

My brother, it's not a one size fits all scenerio. If we use your analogy, Ogun state should be the hub of hospitality in Nigeria because they have the highest number of higher institutions in the country, unfortunately it's not.

Las Vegas is seen as the "sin city" in America, but how many universities are in it?

Just few. Obollo Afor in Enugu state has the highest number of prostitutes in South East,

but there is no STANDARD hotel there, not even one. Most top hotels in Lagos are either in Ikeja or on the Island, but there are no universities there.

These universities have been in Imo state for many years, but the revolution started during Rochas time. If the environment isn't condusive, do you think people will come even when you have universities everywhere?

The point I'm trying to make is that the presence of the universities helped, but isn't what is driving the tourism/hospitality sector.
.
On a side note, I completely agree with your last statement. I've not been to IMSU before but I've always wondered why don't they just have three campuses- One in Owerri, One in Orlu and One in Okigwe, rather than just concentrating it in Owerri.

The palm university can be used for this purpose. The government should also look into the state polytechnic and employ capable hands, not those dull lecturers who don't know what they are doing there. Infact, M.Sc should be the lowest qualification to work as an academician in any of the state owned institutions

Stop making such comments in a public forum

It's capable of causing e-fights
