PrettyRita: This crook needed a newer and the latest iPad. Elrufai couldn't get one for him, he saw an opening, exploited it and today he celebrates ipad3. The Arik he wanted dead yesterday is the same Arik he is advertising today. For those supporting this yahoo boy(don't forget he hacked Arik website), remember that his actions are criminal. He was told that his iPad was in his bag, he didn't check to confirm, but queried the manner in which the iPad was dropped in his bag. when Arik couldn't bear his "agboro" character, they blacklisted him, and what did they get in return? A hacker, cracking down their website and paralysing their activities. What do you expect, especially when Elrufai &co went pleading, they waved it and today we have people here supporting rubbish. Mtscheeeeeeeeewwwww angry angry angry angry

The idiocy is strong in this one.

If someone told you they put your missing iPad in your luggage, wouldn't you want to know how exactly that could be possible? How did they know it was his iPad? When did they have the chance to slip it into his luggage?

Where is your proof he 'hacked' Arik's website?

Wouldn't you be angry when you're escorted off an airplane by security and have your name placed at the head of a no-fly list for a non-violent protest?

Less than 200k worth of an ipad? whose neglgence to have forgotten da stuff inside da plane? and come to think of the energy dissipated over valuable documents" in the ipad. If indeed da ipad & its contents were that valuable, da bobo must have quitely settled for a couple of a few hundreds of Ks to avaoid blabbing further..wont tell us how much. Find Out!:
hmmm... Ok, i see u point more clearly now & i've been able to deduce the following (correct me if i'm wrong):

i) if Omojuwa had been more diplomatic in his approach, i.e. making his voice heard but refraining from insults & threats, then he wouldnt have lost ur respect. After all the noise he made & 'death threats' to the airline, it seems odd that it took a replacement of the iPad to shut him up.

ii) He comes across as using this issueto increase his popularity. & nothin destroys activism more than getting derailed along the line, deviating from the original & sole motive, which should be justice & justice only.

iii) You dislike proud people cheesy (that much i've observed as ur NL follower.lol), & JJ has shown some serious signs of having that trait.

iv) He's someone you once respected, as an upcoming voice of the people perhaps & that makes the f-ups above more annoying. A more mature management of the whole issue was expected from him. He made too much unpleasant noise & that's y it appears that it took only a new ipad - which is actually only what he's due for(lets 4get abt compensation & those fancy thns lawyers get rich on.lol) - to shut him up.

Oya madam, just cut him some slack.lol. I don't hold brief for him, and can't make excuses for him but i still think his action will inspire lots of Nigerians to stand up to the big organisations, airlines inclusive, (who would now be more careful) when cheated .

Indeed, activists need to exercise a good deal of caution & maturity without compromising persistence, in pressing for their demands, so that the other party & indeed the spectators will not really have anything to hang them with. Even insults, when necessary, can be delivered in subtle & mature ways.

Well done, especially at the bolded lol.

I'm not too familiar with that airline or that airline's policies regarding luggage and personal items, but if there's any gray area, that should have been tackled to prevent any more confusion. Arik did themselves no favor when whomever said that the iPad was returned to him sha lol.

Lol. Arik would definitely have immediately set out to absolve themselves from the theft, then thereafter conduct their own in-house investigations. But rather than appease the complainant & sweetly convey the ''sorry, we are investigating & we'll get back to you'' message, they felt more comfortable passing the buck to him instead, thereby making it seem like he was making a false claim.

Talk about poor customer service.....present in many Nigerian establishments, both government & private.

*wonder why the well paying companies can't come and hire me as their CSO :/ *

Omojuwa and El Rufai have been well known to be jobless internet noise makers.
To now be exposed to be shameless criminals who go about hacking corporate websites is disturbing

ogugua88: It isn't about him standing up to Arik. It's about the manner in which he chose to do so. There's a big difference.

If he had conducted himself properly, then eyes wouldn't have turned to him when Arik's site was hacked. Also, people wouldn't be suspicious of him if he wasn't tweeting from an(another) iPad.

He could use a lesson or two on how to conduct yourself when all eyes are on you. Nobody needs a grown man throwing tantrums as a leader of tomorrow. He won't be the first to be cheated (if he was at all), and he won't be the last.

Ogugua,
you need to calm down a bit!
You need to also see things from the "other side" of the coin.

Let me summarize the issues a bit:

*The guy's I-Pad was stolen on Arik flight

*He made a lot of noises, through "Tweeter".....and a lot of people agreed with him and "followed" him (did you?)

*As usual of Nigerian entities, Arik strutted and postured while averring that it will not own up to its responsibility for the "Safety of passenger articles" on its flight.

*He threatened a law suit of 50Million Naira if Arik does not give him his I-Pad back

*At last, Arik buckled and offered to give him a new I-Pad as replacement, not withstanding that it was better than the stolen one.

NOW:
You and other "followers" complained that:
*He should have gone on with the suit
*He was responsible for Arik website being hacked
*He should have informed his "Tweeter followers" about the deal h is cutting with Arik
*He was throwing tantrums, as an adult. You also alleged that he was selfish
!

Now, lets look at issues OBJECTIVELY:

They say "the "end" justifies the "means".

1.) I guess if his "objective" was to get his I-Pad back, he has achieved his objective.

2.) Law suits are very expensive (legal fees et al), takes considerable time and there is no guarantee that you will win or the judge would not only award a "nominal 50,000 Naira compensation" in your favor, which may not even cover "transport", talk-less of legal fees. Its a last option which should be avoided unless everything else fails. Everything else has not failed in this case.

3.) There is nothing, no shred of evidence that you have provided to show that he was responsible for the hacking of Arik's website. Anyone with a small knowledge of Hackers will know that they dont need an "invitation" to do their job but see it as a "Moral Crusade" to use their knowledge to punish those who oppress the members of the public. CIA, FBI, VISA, MasterCard, MI5 and some other high profile website has been hacked, in protest against the hounding of Wikkileaks Julian Assange.
Assange did not ask them to do it, they just did it to show their own displeasure. This guys case is no different.

4.)That you guys "followed" him on Tweeter does not mean he owes you any (luckily, he did inform you guys through the same "Tweeter medium", that issue is now resolved!). It was your own personal choice and that of many others, to believe in what he was doing and to "follow" him. You did not contribute money to him, to take a legal challenge nor did he 'advertise" that you should follow him! It was your choice to do so.

5.) Since his loss was a "personal loss", any decision to mitigate his loss still remains his own personal decision, he does not need to "call a Town hall meeting of Followers" like you, to make that decision. .

He does not need to consult any "wider public"..... (To do that would mean he is actually "grandstanding" and taking the issue beyond a "personal loss" of a personal item). It is you the gullible faithful followers that either wanted to turn this issue into something significant (a storm in a tea-cup!) OR maybe you guys have an "ulterior motive" apart from the guy recovering his stolen I-Pad or it being replaced? Very ridiculous!!

6.) You claimed he was tweeting from an I-Pad all along. Now, this is a very silly statement, coming from an adult. That one I-Pad was stolen does not mean he should have no access to "another i-Pad"? He could use a friends own, a family-member's own, a place of work-issued one and many other avenues to use one!
That does not distract from the fact that his I-Pad was stolen on an Arik flight.
Why you chose to make an issue of such simplistic thing is surprising!

6.) Finally, this is one person, irrespective of his political leanings, who stood-up for his right. Yes, he got his I-Pad back.
if all Nigerians, rise-up, use tweeter to "make a lot of noise" and get their wrongs, righted, then we are on our way to glory-land! Nothing else matters.

I am still at a loss at all the gripe being thrown at the guy like "you'all agreed that he would win 50Million Naira and he would share it out amongst all his "tweeter followers"? Did he let you guys down on that account by settling "out of court"? grin

I say like this guy, let us all learn to stand-up for our right, make noise and give them bad publicity, if that is the language they understand and that is what they dont want! wink

The guy whose I-Pad was stolen has been reimbursed, let all "followers" find something more worthwhile to do instead of beefing the guy or did he take anything else from you, that you need to collect back?

It is you "followers" that need to stop throwing tantrums on an issue that is already resolved!Activism is not about engaging in a mindless and senseless court process when the "objective" could be achieved in a less costly manner!
It is the 'achievement of the objective' that matters, not the process used
(which is more abouit "grandstanding", anyway!) grin grin

Thank you ojare.

If the poeple on this thread are the future of Nigeria, there is a greater problem ahead.

ReallyThis guy puts up another guys nos on twitter and tells his followers to call, text and insult the guy. For why?? Just because the poor bloke was empathetic enough to give him his personal number so that he can follow up on the missing Ipad. Now Omojuwa is the victim, who sent him to forget his Ipad on a plane filled with a hundred or more people with varying agenda. Abegi the guy no be am at all and Arik Air stinks for dragging this out.

I've been as calm as ever, and I have seen things from the other side of the coin. I've been following him on twitter for a while and was in agreement with him until his head began to swell. I hope you saw his tweets I posted earlier. His iPad was stolen after he left it behind, do remember that.

Omojuwa said himself that he did not request any N50million.

NOW:
You and other "followers" complained that:
*He should have gone on with the suit
*He was responsible for Arik website being hacked

You will have to find a quote of me saying Omojuwa was responsible for hacking Arik's website. I know for a fact that I did not. What I said is that his online antics have left people suspecting that he hacked the site. I also said that they had every right to suspect him because he said himself that he wanted to take part in the "death of Arik". Did you not read all of my posts?

*He should have informed his "Tweeter followers" about the deal h is cutting with Arik
*He was throwing tantrums, as an adult. You also alleged that he was selfish!

Omojuwa likened this to a "civil rights" movement for Nigerians. For one of his posts on his blog, he used a picture of Rosa Parks. The picture is still there actually. I don't see any comparison between fighting Jim Crow laws in the segregated south of the US and fighting an airline for an electronic device. He got Nigeria involved and then accepted the iPad and told everyone to move on with their lives. I insinuated that a lot of this was for Omojuwa's own personal gain as he was interested in increasing popularity as well as the number of followers he was getting per day.

Now, lets look at issues OBJECTIVELY:

They say "the "end" justifies the "means".

1.) I guess if his "objective" was to get his I-Pad back, he has achieved his objective.

Omojuwa stated repeatedly that this was never about the iPad. So why did it take only an iPad for him to bury the hatchet and fly Arik shortly after receiving it?

2.) Law suits are very expensive (legal fees et al), takes considerable time and there is no guarantee that you will win or the judge would not only award a "nominal 50,000 Naira compensation" in your favor, which may not even cover "transport", talk-less of legal fees. Its a last option which should be avoided unless everything else fails. Everything else has not failed in this case.

There doesn't have to be a lawsuit. He obviously had a chat with Arik and their people in order for him to get a new iPad. While he was there, he should have pressured them into changing or clarifying their rules regarding luggage and carry on items to ensure that such a mishap doesn't happen again.

There is also nothing, no shred of evidence that you have provided, to show that I made such a claim. I don't appreciate you putting words in my mouth.

Again, you can't beckon people to you with this injustice story, tell people you're fighting for them, and then take your iPad and tell people "case closed". The people got no benefit from this. If I'm fighting for Nigerians, it will take a lot more than an iPad to shut me up. Changes will take place before I'm quiet. If Omojuwa wants to be an activist, he needs to be altruistic and learn that it's not about him, but others and the greater good of society. He turned this iPad saga into a case of severe injustice, and took his iPad like he was the only one invested in the cause.

Do you follow him on twitter? If you did, you would have known that this iPad thing was the only thing Omojuwa tweeted since June. He called the town hall meeting of followers since June. That is Omojuwa's character. He was like that during the Occupy Nigeria movements too. I was even doubting him then. It's good to have traits of leadership. What I don't appreciate about Omojuwa is that he behaves like someone who wants to be an activist because of the fame it brings him, rather than because it's for progress of society.

Again, it is evident that you did not read any of my subsequent posts. Otherwise, you would have seen that I said it is silly for him to still be tweeting from an iPad because Arik would have assumed he didn't need an iPad. If a Range Rover is stolen from me, and I go to the police to report my stolen Range Rover with another Range Rover, will Nigerian police budge to find the thieves? You know how Nigerians are. If they see you are comfortable, they won't feel any need to help you.

That's somewhat true. There needs to be activism on the ground too though.

I am still at a loss at all the gripe being thrown at the guy like "you'all agreed that he would win 50Million Naira and he would share it out amongst all his "tweeter followers"? Did he let you guys down on that account by settling "out of court"? grin

I'm not throwing a tantrum. I simply don't support arrogance. I'm not a fool. I will not support an activist who's goal is to become a celebrity via a missing iPad. Sure, he got what he wanted, and good for him. As for me, I don't want to side with such a person. It's a very simple concept and I have a right to my decision. It's not like I made such a decision on baseless evidence. I provided a few tweets, you can read his blog, you can follow him on twitter. That's his behaviour. I don't have to agree with it.

Next time, it would be best that you read the entire thread before responding. A lot of what I told you was reiterated. Cheers.
