Nokia Unveils Lumia 510 For Emerging Markets by Babanhajiya(m): 7:58am On Oct 24, 2012 |
Confirming all those rumors we've been hearing, Nokia has officially taken the wraps off its latest budget smartphone, the Lumia 510 -- slotting it somewhere between the Asha range and the Lumia 610 . With the notable exception of the 4-inch (480 x 800) screen, which is a tad larger than its slightly more accomplished Windows Phone sibling, the other specs are very much in line with its low-cost stance: there's a single 5-megapixel shooter at the back (no front-facer), a lowly 800MHz Qualcomm processor, 256MB RAM and 4GB of non-expandable storage.

I think this phone would be a hit considering how well the Asha line is doing against low-end droids. Its major pros are its price and the 4 inch screen. Thats not adding how good it looks especially with the colours available- something lacking in low budget phones. I think it would debut in Nigeria for between 20 - 30k and would be a direct competition to low-end androids which it should out-perform. The only con is that its got 4GB non-expandable memory, but then, thats why its that cheap. |

jedisco: source of this assertion? obviously it wont be as capable of diverse functions as those low end androids good thing tho is that they would prolly sell lots of these ones if they can get to make one with WP8 than those their Flagships. Those ones are on a long thing for now |

4llerbuntu: Capable and diverse?? I don't get this one. Last time I checked, an overwhelming majority of android phones sold today don't ship with JB and a good number have no hope of getting it and yet they still sell. Most people buying low budget phones are not interested about updates. Besides, this one should get the 7.8 update. Nokia has promised long support for the current line up so this should benefit from that. |

jedisco: 80% of mobile phone users are not interested in updates. its you pesky pseudo-geeks that are always shouting about updates online by capable and diverse i mean real world capabilities like tethering, file sharing, even hacking if u are into that sort of thing. im sure there will be a few things a budget android fone can do that a budget nokia Windows fone wont, primarily because nokia knows well enough not to over stretch their meager hardware whilst android is simply a do it all platform. heck u find budget androids with USB-On-The-Go and other such exotic features. even if its not there somebody is working to bring it up. there are fones that shipped with donut that run ICS AND jb!!! CRAZY. i hope Nokia WP 8 fones will be hackable sha. that will actually get crazy pple interested |

4llerbuntu: Out performing the low end androids, I doubt. The UX (User experience) people have with their phones has to do with the myriad of useful and equally "fulfillling-ly" time wasting apps available, as with Google Play and the Apple Store - products borne out of a good eco-system of developers, a key thing which RIM (And Nokia) lacks IMHO. It will outlast them in battery talk and standby time, that I can trust. |

Nokia is gonna need a miracle to produce smart phones that will compet with the andriod and iOS devices. Nice phone tho. |

Nokia is definitely on its way down. With the large community of programmers for the Android and iOS, it would take a miracle to bring back Nokia to its glory days. http://www.tinyqualityhomes.org/1200-tiny-house-diy-camper/ |

My problem with Nokia is that instead of releasing their products in all their major markets @ once, they will release in UK/USA and other countries in January and release in Nigeria and co in December. If I was given Nokia Lumia 900 free of charge I wont collect it @ all. If they like when Lumia 920/820 is released, they should not bring it to Nigeria. Will just abandon them and chill for BB Aristo. |
Re: Nokia Unveils Lumia 510 For Emerging Markets by jmaine: 8:23pm On Oct 24, 2012 |
If this device berths in Nigeria between the 20 - 30K range, it will be a big hit here . . . Peeps love the window phone user experience at first touch, though certain functionality still has to be incorporated to make the experience wholesome and more fulfilling. Prolly the upcoming 7.8 update should take good care of that . . |
