National Good Governance Tour Kicks Off In Benue State by Countryman93: 8:19pm On Oct 29, 2012
The National Good Governance Tour which is an initiative of the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, to showcase dividends of democracy across Nigeria has finally arrived in Benue state.

On arrival, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku alongside the team paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam at the Benue State Government House.

The team thereafter swung into action by visiting the Benue state University Teaching Hospital which was commissioned on 9 th March 2012. The hospital has a 350 bed capacity and has a staff strength of over 500 including 10 professors and 50 consultants. It has 8 theaters and renders endoscopy services. The dialysis unit was donated by the MTN foundation.

Governor Suswam remarked that they have equipped the hospital with modern facilities that will improve on health care service delivery to the people of the state. After the inspection, the team departed for the new Markudi water works projects. The Greater Markudi water project was commissioned on 9th March 2012 and was funded by both Benue State Government and the federal Government. It has the capacity to pump 100,000 cubic meters of water daily to the metropolis.

In addition to the water treatment plant, the media tour team inspected the Makurdi to Naka road measuring 8 km and completed by the Benue State Government with solar powered street lights. The team also visited the Orange processing and packaging plant built by the State Govt and handed over to private managers in 2011.

At the Nigerian Navy Province and Regulatory school, the team also inspected the new medical complex.

Wow! This is looking beautiful, I love the neatness of this water project site. Plateau was impressive, let me see how Benue goes.

This is lovely. The minister is really serious and determined with this tour. Well, Nigerians deserve to know what the government is doing and thanks to the minister for this painstaking efforts. It is not easy.

^^^^^^True talk ny brother,to enter the field with such an aggressive and painstaking effort is not easy and the fortitude to be going to all the different project sites is quite commendable.now as the tour continues I wonder if benue state will reach or breach the mark set by plateau state.

Wonderful projects trending everywhere on Nairaland. I just went through that of the new terminals on the front page and stumbled on this one too.
This government is really working hard to deliver the democratic dividends to the people. The air can only get fresher grin
Re: National Good Governance Tour Kicks Off In Benue State by Arobam: 12:16am On Oct 30, 2012
I love Maku for this tour. Rather than sit down at Aso rock and be making noise like his predecessors, he is touring projects sites. That is remarkable. We need to be more pragmatic in our approach to Governance

I noticed that One project appears to lace through all the states visited so far. Each of the states have always showcased various water treatment plants and dams executed by both the federal and state governments. That means the Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe is working too. Its a salute to womanhood. All the women in President Jonathan's government are not disappointing at all.
Ruqayyatu is holding it down with her reforms in curriculum, Almajiri school projects, increases funding of varsities etc.
NOI is holding it down with her fiscal reforms, bio metric evaluations, verification of subsidy claims, SWF, increased Foriegn reserves base, timely Budgeting etc
Oduah is holding it down with her massive reconstruction and remodelling of 11 terminals in Nigeria. She has commissioned the GAT in Lagos, Benin, Yola, Kano, Enugu, Abuja will soon be commissioned too.
Diezani is holding it down with her sanitisation of the oil industry with probes and formulation of New PIB

Waow, some governors are working oooo, while some others are just looting their states. Nice work mr. Governor

This governance team has really come to stay, I thought it has ended. Maku, you are really the best information minister.
Re: National Good Governance Tour Kicks Off In Benue State by ANALIST: 2:14pm On Oct 30, 2012
The tour is real and had not only come to stay but has revealed( and will continue to reveal more), more ground breaking projects of governments- both state and federal in all the states. Though many may not be happy about this tour but we know that as it is with other ventures, there must be critics.
But as a TRUE NIGERIAN I am not only in support of the tour but will suggest we make it an annual policy of government so we can evaluate physically and tangibly of all the projects that we are told that are under construction or completion. In this sense my dearest reader, we can condemn or appreciate the effort or otherwise of any government in power and have the audacity of clarity to do justice on them by our public opinion and judgement.

The question we must ask is what will the people, government and institutions benefit from this tour? Is it part of government duty to showcase its projects or not? What is the significance of this tour?etc.
To analyse, we must understand government and why we are governed in the first place( may be greed and desperation have denied us the first study of live-politics, for every man " is a political animal"wink before expecting dividend of any type of government which democracy is the best so far practised.
Government has the sole duty to organise, manage and distribute the human and natural resource of the polity for te overall utilisation and benefit of all, otherwise known in political science as allocation of scarce resources.
This is why and where the interest of every Nigeria comes in, in the activities, policies and agenda of every leader in government. The projects shown so far in Plateau, Niger and Benue state have not only economic and human capital development bearing on Nigeria but stimulates and motivates every right thinking Nigerian that it takes only POLITICAL WILL(which we've practically seen) and the decision on the part of Nigerians to work hard for us to get to the promised land; where citizens of other nations will seek Nigerian citizenship because of the benefits and security of their posterity like other developed countries of the world
. We must use now than ever the 100,000 cubic metric tones of water in Benue state, 350 bed capacity of 500 staffs with 10 professors and 50 Doctors of Benue state university teaching hospital, the new port construction in Niger state, the renewed international aiports etc as Nigerians for our Agricultural, health and business activities to mention but a few-thereby increasing our development and longevity.

The government in touring these site should not be seen as self-praising, but should be seen as the most practical way and means of matching action with words. For insatance dear friends, at one of the sites of a school block yesterday the Infomation minister Maku, made an instant inquiry why a cracked project should continue when it is obvious that the quality of work done is below standard. For the stuttering principal she could not help but give her own side of the story. Such is the transparency we need. In a polity where citizens will understand from every location we might be what the government is doing in other parts of te country.

It is no hidden knowledge that private sectors moves in line with government agenda and policies which is why investors study countries' and states budgets in order to know where to plunge in their money for fast return on investment(ROI).This can be seen in Akwa Ibom states, Bayelsa and indeed the ubiquitous projects of the Federal Government.

Therefore it should be foreseen that the exposition of the strategic projects for economic development of the Federal and state governments will in addition induce local and foreign investors in many state and diverse area of our economic and plitical development thereby making Nigeria a fast growing economy like other Asian countries.
Government through oversight by the Legislature and verification tour otherwise termed "Good Governance Tour" is not only needed but desired for all to know what the facts on governance and developmental projects stands at.

The significance therefore, is that Nigerians must stand tall and look at the derivable benefits of these projects which are enormous and take advantage of ten all.
It is a welcome development for all.

For us Nigerians, we are standing tall to reap the benefits of these projects. it does not matter whether I am from the North,South, West or East, but because we are Nigerians and this government and indeed others that have come and gone are ours. Their good and bad. GEJ, we are not willing to stop hearing about thiese but need more-for "when" as has been said by our elders that, "you greet a performing worker he do more."
Maku, continue. GEJ WE ARE EXPECTANT OF MORE.
