Federal Government has decried the poor supervision of some of its basic education projects.

Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, expressed government’s disappointment while inspecting work at the Federal Government Special Girl Child School, Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday.

He    urged the management of the Universal Basic Education Commission to improve on its monitoring and evaluation to achieve the desired result.

Wike regretted that the quality of job carried out by the contractor under the supervision of a UBEC consultant had fallen below  government specification.

The minister said, “What has happened here today is the reason why I insist on personally monitoring projects to know their status. I am not happy with this job. The UBEC consultant and the official who commenced the takeover process must be sanctioned.”

He said the government would not condone shoddy execution of basic education projects.

Wike, who also paid a courtesy call on Governor Tanko Almakura, called on state governments to improve their surveillance of State Universal Basic Education Boards to avoid the diversion of books meant for the less privileged.

Almakura said the Federal Government’s investments in education were necessary to entrench development across the country.
