President Goodluck Jonathan today set up three committees to prepare draft White Papers on the reports of the Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force, the National Refineries Special Task Force and the Governance and Controls Special Task Force, a statement by presidential spokesman Reuben Abati has said.

He said the action was in furtherance of Jonathan’s declared commitment to doing all within his powers to ensure greater accountability, probity and transparency in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry,” the usual government line when it senses public doubt or widespread disbelief.

The press statement said the committees would “study the reports, review the issues raised, and prepare draft White Papers for the consideration of the Federal Executive Council within two weeks.”

Of the three committees, the government said:

The Minister of Labour Chief Emeka Wogu will chair the White Paper Committee on the Petroleum Revenue Special Task Force Report. Members of the committee are the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro; theMinister of State, FCT, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide; and one of the Ministers of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed.

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Ama Pepple, will chair the White Paper Committee on the report of the Governance and Controls Special Task Force. Other members are the Minister of State, Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada; Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar; and the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Bukar Tijani.

The White Paper Committee on the report of the National Refineries Special Task Force will be chaired by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc. Mohammed Sada. Members are the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina; the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Muhammad Pate; and the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Ezenwo Nyeson Wike.

President Jonathan's government is truly a government by committee. Will GEJ set up another committee to review the 'white paper' of this new committee? grin

I swear to God, the first thing that came to my find when I read this was that nursery rhyme - "There Was An Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly".

Remember how she kept swallowing more and more stuff to catch whatever she had swallowed previously. . .first the spider to catch the fly, then the bird to catch the spider, cat to catch the spider, dog to catch the cat, a cow to catch the dog. . .etc

Well GEJ musta loved that nursery rhyme because that's what he seems to have based his entire presidency on that rhyme. Committee to review the previous committee which was set up to review some sub committee....

Say. . .whatever happened to that old woman again? Anyone remember? cheesy

Now that Goodluck is ready to work with the report, some people are here trying to condemn him again.

It is a standard procedure that once a report is submitted by a committee, a white paper has to be drafted from it. Another set of people have to carefully examine what is said in a report, take the vital part and then draft a white paper on it.

The government can only work with white paper not just report.

Please let us commend GEJ here for even accepting the unfinished Ribadu's report and considering it for a white paper.

Way to go on the PRSTF Report but my concern is on the calibre of those constituted to draft the white paper, one would have expected seasoned technocrats to help Government do the job.
Lastly, the content of the White Paper recommendation should be made known to Nigerians

Government draft white papers, not technocrats as you put it. This is actually a selection of some people within the FEC to come up with a White Paper on the 3 report. It would have been called a committee if the government (FEC) goes outside the FEC to get people to do the job. There are actually 3 white papers expected, not just the one from Ribadu's team.

You did not understand my earlier submission. Government needs experienced hands 'cos they will need to filter out what is unnecessary from the report and adds government recommendations to it, do you expect mediocre to do this job simply because they are ministers. There is no law that states that white paper should only be drafted by ministers for the government. Good luck on all the reports, what Nigerians demand for is transparency
Re: Jonathan Sets-up Committee To Examine Ribadu Report And Others by kokoA(m): 6:26am On Nov 16, 2012
Then a comittee to read out the white paper to the president, then another comittee to explain what was read to the president, then another comittee to advice the president to implement or not the work of all the previous comittees, then before that comittee finishes its work, somebody will accuse a member of one of the numerous comittees of collecting bribe. Government will now setup a comittee to investigate the alegations. This comittee will investigate to 2015. Thanks for taking time out to read my post grin grin

Bros, the experience hands and seasoned technocrats you clamour for have already played their part in the initial reports and their far reaching recommendations should not be difficult to work upon.

Some people may need to re- examine their rationale for making certain conclusion on issues. This is democracy, not autocracy. The president is even too diplomatic, my likes would throw that report to the dustbins or call on Ribadu to come and complete his job. To appease the Judas in Nigerians, the actions being taken is proper and right.

Yes, the recommendations will be made known to Nigerians 'coz the whole World is watching with bated breath and the President will not want to squander the little goodwill he enjoys.

so the stewpid phuck can't take a week out and resolve this himself, instead he is putting corrupt scavengers in charge that will turn the whole thing upside down.

If Jonathan was really a man that had nigerians at heart, this should be his most important work. Its even a mess he created and yet he's having such a hard time fixing it. All he does is nothing. What a waste. He should be ashamed of himself.

He deserves commendation for this. Let's just hope that the white paper has a detailed policy
plan in achieving probity and accountability in the oil and gas industry.
