An interesting journey with your Lion! Or would i say an adventure.

As for the state of the Nigerian highways, it is that bad. Especially for those of us that do frequent long distance driving.

I can see that the journey was a re-union of your Lion and it's predecessors or would i say "Forefathers". Lol!

Ikenna.

nice pictorial narration, driving and taking camera shots may not be that safe you know, someone else should have best done it for you...though it looked like you were not driving fast. Nice anyways...

Ps:
U need a good camera fone too, try d nokia pureview for size or d iPhone 4. Great work, ȋ̝̊̅ must say.

t-die:

Just felt like sharing my trip on one of the most horrible stretches of road in East Nigeria.
I had gone to Enugu earlier on Thursday (15/11) to sort out some personal stuff and also to get my windscreen changed. The windscreen change was a disaster (Details in Peugeot thread). On driving with the car stereo off, you can hear the distinct whooshing sound of air around the edges of the windscreen from inside the car. Will try and have it sorted out at a specialist workshop here in Uyo.
Anyways I left Enugu on Sunday (18/11) around 12 pm from the beginning of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Express way (after filling my tank at the NNPC Mega Station).
The early stages of the journey were relatively smooth… I could at times get up to 120km/hr. and the journey was relatively ok up to the Lokpanta Nta Cattle Market…
The rest is best described by the pix….
Still a lot of old school vehicles on the roads… Volvo 240, Peugeot 404 pickups, 504s, 505s, W124s etc.
Apart from the very common scraping of my undercarriage on the horrible road surfaces, my 307 Pug drove like a dream… with my AL4 tranny shifting perfectly and seamlessly… Performance has improved drastically since I had my ABS sensors changed… And I was Chilling AC all through…
Got home like 5.30 pm… so that was five and half hours for a 250km Journey… We really have a long way to go o…
I love my lion to pieces…. But am beginning to think I need a second car… preferably an SUV otherwise my Peugeot would age prematurely if contionuosly used on that road… Any thoughts/opinions on the Jeep Liberty or the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder…?
…tdie

Are u sure you wont invite haters here So big boy. Hehehe.

Interesting picture story...our Eastern governors need to sit up...our roads are bad.

Those that are familiar with the Enugu onitsha express way can attest to that.

They just have to sit up.

Not only the governors. What about the LG chairmen and councillors with all the roadside bush and grass that needs cutting every now and then by a couple of unemployed people in the surrounding areas and villages.
Yet we go dey cry unemployment, which leads to kidnapping, armed robbery and other crimes that may affect the irresponsible public servants who did not use their opportunity to perform.

Yeah, Enugu to Onitsha is bad. But Enugu to 9th mile is beautiful now.

I just love travelling. Taking pictures while driving isnt easy. I commend the poster.

a nice traveller's diary...but we need these roads in good condition. I can only imagine the level of wears and tears on the car for just that 5.5 hours drive.

Am very happy with the roads transformation of Chief Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, I wish other governors would join him in this agenda. Concerning the issue of the poor state of Ikot Epene road from Abia state, it is a federal road and i would advise a call on the both state governors to jointly approach the federal government and solicit for fund to get the road repaired. I just came back from journey and i have a practical knowledge of what i am talking about
